The It Cosmetics City Chic 5-Piece Ultra Luxe Skin Loving Brush Set and Exclusive Case is a new, limited edition It Cosmetics Holiday 2016 Gift Set that’s available exclusively at Ulta.com. This is actually a little of a confusing set for me.

Here’s why!

Ok, so, I’m confused. I recently reviewed the It Cosmetics All That Glitters Brush Set and couldn’t rave it enough. It’s a sparkly, gorgeous makeup brush set that I was very pleased with. The handles are a little lighter than the standard It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Makeup Brushes but all in all it was an excellent set with soft bristled brushes. Now, I think the It Cosmetics City Chic Brush Set missed the mark a little tiny bit.

First off this contains five brushes and a makeup bag just like the All That Glitters Set but there’s a $10 difference between the two sets. This is $68 where as the All That Glitters Set is $58. I thought the case on this was nice but the All That Glitters one seemed nicer if not a little smaller in size. The rose gold and silver tassled bag can fit not only the brushes but a good deal of makeup inside however, I was a partial to the silver glittery brush roll that came with the All That Glitters Set. Both sets have five brushes and I’m still trying to understand why this set was $10 since the brushes on this set didn’t seem as good as the ones from the All That Glitters Set.

You get:

  • Chic Powder Brush
  • Chic Blush Brush
  • Chic Foundation Brush
  • Chic Eyeshadow Brush
  • Chic Crease Brush

The handles are light but sturdy and feature an ombre design that flatters the makeup bag. The bristles of the brushes are very soft with no shedding but sadly, right out of the package I had issues with the Blush Brush and Eyeshadow Brush. The bristles on both of these showed signs of splitting. Part my review process is to wash brushes up to three times to see how they retain their shape and how well they wash. I put these through that test and was hoping that the splitting issue would go back to normal once the brush was wet and reshaped. Sadly, I still had the same problem once the brushes dried. There’s also a small issue with a few stray hairs that are longer than the others. Hmmm…!

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact they are charging nearly $68 for this set and it isn’t nearly as good as the All That Glitters Set which had the same amount of brushes. I’m also not terribly impressed with the splitting issue I experienced. I remember days when It Cosmetics offered Heavenly Luxe Makeup Brush Sets for as little as $40 and the handles were heavy and the bristles were full and soft.

If you’re hauling an It Cosmetics Brush Set this season I’d go with the cheaper and far nicer All That Glitter Set. For me, the City Chic Brush Set missed the mark.

The It Cosmetics City Chic Brush Set is available now exclusively at Ulta and Ulta.com.

Thanks, that is sad. I hope it is not because of the sale of the company and quality is now changing. 🙁 I have many of IT’s brushes and they are my favorite.

Likewise! There brushes are great! Can’t be that because the All That Glitters set was quite good 🙂

You maybe right, but put it out just as good as All That Glitters with some different handles and bag? If I was in the board room to put out next years brush set?! Do they ever read to see what we think of new sets? Humm 🙂

I bought this online and took one look at it when it arrived and returned it. The powder brush was not as full as it appeared in the picture and I was disappointed in the set overall!

awww sorry Jan! 🙁 I didn’t love it either. The All That Glitters Set was more impressive! I liked the set a lot more!
