Colourpop x Hello Kitty Mama’s Apple Pie Review & Swatches
Colourpop x Hello Kitty Mama’s Apple Pie ($18) is a new limited edition set that includes four Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Rainbow, Friendship File, Small Gift, and School Bus. I was pretty excited to get my hands on this and really, all of the Colourpop x Hello Kitty Makeup Collection because, Hello Kitty right?
As you may know already Colourpop recently teamed up with Sanrio to create a Hello Kitty Makeup Collection inspired by everyone’s favorite pretty kitty! This isn’t the first time a brand has teamed up with Sanrio to create a Hello Kitty Collection as both Sephora and MAC Cosmetics have both done collections featuring her. It is however, the first time that Colourpop has collaborated with such a huge brand or company. Colourpop has done quite a few collaborations with celebrities (Rumer Willis) and youTube starts but nothing as big as Sanrio.
Like most Hello Kitty fans I logged on to Colourpop’s site immediately on launch and placed an order. One of the first items that ended up in my cart was Colourpop x Hello Kitty Mamma’s Apple Pie Set! This set comes housed in a red and blue metallic box that features a little slip cover of Hello Kitty’s darling head. The box is decorated with Hello Kitty’s bows in a variety of red, blue, and white shades. The actually Super Shock Shadows do not have special edition packaging and are the normal white pots that are each 0.07 oz in size.
Shades include:
- Rainbow (Glitter sheer finish white with highlights of silver and pink glitter)
- Friendship File (Metallic finish warm peachy beige dusted with silver and pink glitter)
- Small Gift (Pearlized finish mid-tone peachy pink)
- School Bus (Pearlized finish deep navy blue)
This set doesn’t quite have any rhythm or reason but I wanted it because it appears to be what the promo model is wearing on her eyes. She seems to have School Bus all over her lid and Friendship File looks like it’s in her crease. Unfortunately, I was unable to recreate her look but I was satisfied with my spin on it. As I said, these shades don’t really match up well together or at least I’m not creative enough to see how they’d go together. Rainbow and School Bus work well together but I didn’t feel like Small Gift and Friendship File quite worked well in the same look or even together with School Bus and Rainbow. They do look brilliant on their own though. I tried using school Bust and Friendship File together but couldn’t quite master using such a pigmented blue with the pretty warmth of the peach beige shade of Friendship File. For my look below I went with Rainbow on my highbrow and a little in my crease and School Bus all over my lid and blended into my crease.
Rainbow is probably the least pigmented shade of the quad as this only gives a very sheer glittery wash on lids and works best as an overcoat or accent to other shades. The other shades were all beautifully pigmented as well with Small Gift being particularly unique as it almost had a duochrome effect when swatched.
If you never used Colourpop’s Super Shock Eyeshadows they are a lot like MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadows right down to the packaging. They have a cream-to-powder texture that’s quite silky and smooth with a light creamy texture that blends fairly easily on lids. The shadow formula is squishy like clay and reminds me a good deal of the Maybelline Dreamy Bouncy Blushes. I always recommend primer as they tend to fade on me in a few hours and with primer I get all day, crease-free wear. Applying them with a finger or a sponge tipped eyeshadow applicator works best as using regular eyeshadow brushes doesn’t always pick up color well. They affordable as well at a mere $5 bucks a pop and this set contains four which is a savings of two bucks.
The Colourpop x Hello Kitty Mama’s Apple Pie Set is a fun little set of shades that might not make you automatically think of Hello Kitty when using them. But they will crease some really fun, pretty eye looks. I was happy I indulged!
