Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo Total Transformation Kit ($85) is a new, limited edition gift set that comes with Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment and Luna Sleeping Night Oil. I got it Monday and I’ve been using it for three nights (not in the day though) and I thought I’d share my initials thoughts on the set and maybe give you a mini review of sorts.

The reason I wanted to share my thoughts is because this is a Holiday set! So, by the time I actually test the skincare out long enough to see any results the set will likely be gone from Sephora’s shelves.

Here’s what happened three days after I started using the Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo.

Thanks!

This is actually a great deal if you aren’t wanting to spend $105 to $158 for a bottle of Good Genes. The set includes 0.5 oz of each product and each was actually a generous size. I thought they’d be a lot smaller but I have enough here to get me through at least a month to two months using the Good Genes nightly and the oil is very potent and two to three drops was all I needed which means that’ll last even longer.

luna-sleeping-oil

Luna Sleeping Night Oil wasn’t my oil of choice from Sunday Riley. I wanted to indulge in Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil. Luna seems fitting for people with sensitive skin types and visible pores versus someone like myself who has drier skin and no visible pores nor blemishes. Since it comes with the set I decided to skip on Juno for now.

Good Genes can be used in the morning and the evening but I decided to add it to my night routine only. It’s a runnier cream that absorbs easily into skin. It leaves my skin very, very slick which makes me happy I decided to use it in the evening. I don’t really use AHA or chemical exfoliaters, I actually prefer physical ones but there are many benefits to using a chemical one but the main one is the fact that I never feel dry or tight after using a chemical formula versus a physical exfoliating scrub that tends to leave me smooth but dry.

My first night using both Good Genes and Luna was disappointing. I thought I’d wake up and my face would glow. It didn’t. My face felt smoother, softer, and even plumper but not brighter or visibly younger. You can’t expect a miracle on your first time out of the gate right? The next night I used the duo again and I woke up the morning with even more smoother, softer, and even plumper skin. My skin had a certain plush softness about it which I was loving! Again, no visible results. But I did notice my makeup looked freaking awesome that day. Everything went on so much smoother and my foundation looked amazingly soft and even. I used it again last night and this morning I’m pretty happy to say that my skin appears a bit brighter and a little less dull. Again, my skin is soft, smooth, and plush and again, my foundation applied beautifully.

Hmmmm! I might be onto something here.

I’m going to continue to use both and let you know how I’m feeling after I complete the set. So far, things are looking promising! Maybe just maybe, Good Genes might make it’s way into my nightly skincare routine permanently.

When I still subscribed to the Play box, one of the samples that was included was the Good Genes and the smell was potent. To me, it smelled like burned tires and was really off putting.

    • Isabella Muse

I get more of a iron-y floral scent! It wasn’t too potent though, I thought it was going to smell rotten as the way people describe it it sounds downright awful! Thankfully it isn’t a Philosophy Hope is Enough wet dog smell lol!

        • Isabella Muse

Very much so! I’m always amazed that people love Lush Karma so much! I’m like really? WHY? It smells like dirt and oranges haha! I guess “another man’s treasures” applies here somehow 🙂

          • erinface

I feel the same way about Karma!!! When I worked for lush, people would come in and buy 5 pounds of the soap at once and the whole time I was cutting and wrapping it, I’d be like “wtf why is this so popular?” lol

          • Isabella Muse

RIGHT? it smells horrible! I used to belong to a forum and everyone would rave karma on and on and on! I totally didn’t get what I was missing! It smells like dirt and oranges to me!

I tried a sample of Luna after seeing Vintage or Tacky rave about it, but I started breaking out after using it for a week and a half. It was the only change to my skincare and it went away after removing it from my routine. I use other retinol products and other oils with no issues, so I’m not sure what it is about Luna my skin hates. I didn’t like the smell or the price, so I guess it was good that it didn’t work out for me!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw sorry 🙁 Luna is pretty slick and greasy, I can see it causing issues with oily or blemish prone skin!

  • LouieB

Good genes is one of my favorites! I recommend it to anyone who will listen. My skin is oily and blemish prone…this keeps my skin clear and bright. I feel it helps so many skin types and conditions. If you’re sensitive to smell…it might be a pass. Most Sunday Riley products have an herbal smell.

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t have blemishes or oiliness but it seems to be doing a great job keeping my skin very soft and smooth ;-D

  • Effie

I’m glad you like it too! I got a set several months ago and fell in love, got a full size for each afterward. The Good Genes goes faster than the Luna, because you only use 2-3 drops of Luna at night.
Like you, I only use it at night and see good results. The smell need some getting used to, but I got used to it eventually.

    • Isabella Muse

omg I thought it was for the holidays! I didn’t realize it was around for several months or I would have gotten it sooner! Luna you need so little of! It’s very slick and dare I say greasy! You’re right, two or three drops is plenty! I didn’t mind the smell so much, I thought it was going to be worst 😀 I think I’m heading towards a full-size too!

  • Carol W

I’ve tried samples of both and really liked them , almost bought during through 20% off sale but didn’t. I think there are other less expensive options that can give the same results. That said I love the Sunday Riley tinted primer and once I get through all my foundation iIwill probably use that instead.

  • diane

i look forward to your final results. i’m two days in using the UFO oil and Martian toner from Sunday Riley which are for oily and acne prone skin. SO faw i’m not super wowed but like you say, it’s not a miracle!

    • Isabella Muse

I saw no visible results in the first day, none on the second either but I did feel the results. My skin was def softer and smoother and makeup applied very well. Day three my skin is looking a bit brighter and less dull! So, I’m hoping with more use over the next few months I’ll be impressed even more 😀 I haven’t tried the UFO line, sadly, not for my skin type. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

      • diane

i will let you know when I post my blog on them! so far no complaints =D by the way I FINALLY got a decent blog template- you were beyond right with how simple it was to install, i can’t believe i waited soo long lol

        • Isabella Muse

It’s gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good job 😀 I love it! 😀 good for you! I think it looks fabulous!

  • Jen R

I got the squad goals kit from the sale earlier this week and have been using the Tidal cream in conjunction with the Luna oil (just on the dry areas around my mouth/chin) and the Martian toner (bought separately) for the last few days. Too early to see any immediate results, but I’m loving the way Tidal looks/feels so far! Have tried Good Genes before and feel meh on it, but Tidal seems like something I’ll be re-buying regularly.

    • Isabella Muse

Tidal cream is nice! I got it as a sample a few months ago and I really liked it! 🙂

  • Kimmwc03

I tried a deluxe sample of the Luna oil every night for about a month. I never saw any changes. 🙁

I did like the sample I had of the Tidal cream so I bought that during the Rouge sale.

    • Isabella Muse

So far Luna is nice for moisture but didn’t see much change in my skin. Good Genes seems to be the culprit behind the smoothness I’m experiencing though! Or at least I think it is 🙂

  • Emily

Thinking about investing in this or the SquadGoals set. Are you still using it, Muse? Is it a worthwhile buy?

    • Isabella Muse

I am, I liked both sets (I purchased both during the Sephora sale). I thought it was worth the purchase 🙂

  • Debs

I’m just wondering which goes on first? I have full size of both and didn’t know you could use them together.

    • Isabella Muse

I’ve always ready not to use the two together but they actually recommend on the box to apply the oil first which is odd to me!
