Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation Review & Swatches
Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation ($12.99) is a new cushion foundation that’s launching for Spring 2017 to the permanent Maybelline Collection. Maybelline Cushion makeup has been available in Japan for a while now but I’m very excited about it launching here in the US!
Maybelline is a little late to the cushion trend as L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation launched for Spring 2016 in drugstores but hey, I don’t mind the wait because the formula is incredible!
Let’s take a look!
Last year, Western and Eastern trends hit the drugstore world and we got quite a few new cushion options like L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi Cushion as well as Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free All-in-1 ABC Cushion Foundation. I suspect that LOreal Lucent Magique Cushion Blush and perhaps Maybelline Cushion Blushes are not too far away either!
As with all cushion foundations, Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation comes housed in a double lid chunky compact that contains a mirror. When you open the compact you’ll find a secondary lid that keeps the cushion fresh and secure. I’ve had plenty experience with cushion makeup and I’ve never had issues with them drying out. I find the double lid keeps the cushion fresh. If you’ve never tried cushion makeup before it’s fairly simple. You’ll find a cushion that has a sponge-like feel that’s fit into the compact. This cushion is saturated with foundation and you can press down on it with a brush, a finger, or a the included sponge to release color for application. It’s pretty much a creamy foundation just in a new and different packaging than what you might be used to.
I think L’Oreal’s cushion is quite sheer so, those seeking buildable more pigmented coverage will be happier with Maybelline’s formula. This is a very, very, very creamier foundation that applies smoothly, evenly, and beautifully on my drier skin. It’s hydrating but not shiny nor oily and absorbs easily into my skin without adhering to drier areas. It brightened up my entire complexion and created a natural, flawless finish. The wear time was around five hours for me and will less longer when set with powder. The formula is pigmented and quite buildable as well as customizable for either sheerer coverage or built to almost but not near medium coverage.
I picked up a few different shades to play with and ended up settling on shade 30, Warm Nude, as the one that fit me best. I might go back and see what 25 looks like as 20 was too light for me and 30 was almost right but a little tiny dark.
If you liked L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation but wished it was a bit more pigmented you’re sure to enjoy Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation. I liked the creamier texture and also, loved how natural and brightening it looked on my face and how easily it applied.
This one is a keeper!
