Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation ($12.99) is a new cushion foundation that’s launching for Spring 2017 to the permanent Maybelline Collection. Maybelline Cushion makeup has been available in Japan for a while now but I’m very excited about it launching here in the US!

Maybelline is a little late to the cushion trend as L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation launched for Spring 2016 in drugstores but hey, I don’t mind the wait because the formula is incredible!

Let’s take a look!

Last year, Western and Eastern trends hit the drugstore world and we got quite a few new cushion options like L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi Cushion as well as Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free All-in-1 ABC Cushion Foundation. I suspect that LOreal Lucent Magique Cushion Blush and perhaps Maybelline Cushion Blushes are not too far away either!

As with all cushion foundations, Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation comes housed in a double lid chunky compact that contains a mirror. When you open the compact you’ll find a secondary lid that keeps the cushion fresh and secure. I’ve had plenty experience with cushion makeup and I’ve never had issues with them drying out. I find the double lid keeps the cushion fresh. If you’ve never tried cushion makeup before it’s fairly simple. You’ll find a cushion that has a sponge-like feel that’s fit into the compact. This cushion is saturated with foundation and you can press down on it with a brush, a finger, or a the included sponge to release color for application. It’s pretty much a creamy foundation just in a new and different packaging than what you might be used to.

I think L’Oreal’s cushion is quite sheer so, those seeking buildable more pigmented coverage will be happier with Maybelline’s formula. This is a very, very, very creamier foundation that applies smoothly, evenly, and beautifully on my drier skin. It’s hydrating but not shiny nor oily and absorbs easily into my skin without adhering to drier areas. It brightened up my entire complexion and created a natural, flawless finish. The wear time was around five hours for me and will less longer when set with powder. The formula is pigmented and quite buildable as well as customizable for either sheerer coverage or built to almost but not near medium coverage.

I picked up a few different shades to play with and ended up settling on shade 30, Warm Nude, as the one that fit me best. I might go back and see what 25 looks like as 20 was too light for me and 30 was almost right but a little tiny dark.

If you liked L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation but wished it was a bit more pigmented you’re sure to enjoy Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation. I liked the creamier texture and also, loved how natural and brightening it looked on my face and how easily it applied.

This one is a keeper!

Available now at amazon.com and launching now at drugstores and coming soon to Ulta.com.

Muse, is it similar to the Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation in terms of consistency, coverage, finish etc? Sounds similar based on your review but wanted to ask!

I really love cushion foundation! Philosophy is the only one I’ve tried so far, and I’m curious about this one now too.

  • Jane

I object to cushion products on the grounds that they’re wasteful and I don’t want anti-microbials transferred to my face.

Sucker that I am, I will probably totally buy one. 😛

    Hey Muse!
Any idea if this would be an OK pick for those of us with oily skin, or would you recommend a pass? I have yet to try a cushion foundation and the idea of this being creamy makes me automatically think it may not be best for me, but it looks so nice and I like the idea of the light/medium coverage in a compact container! I do my makeup on the go a lot. 🙂

It would be fine! It’s lightly hydrating but not shiny, heavy, or greasy! Should be fine with oily skin types 🙂

Yay, I was hoping that you would say that! I’m thinking I’ll be the same shade, too. Thank you for letting me know, and for feeding my makeup addiction! ;D

Interestingly, it is $15.99 on Maybelline site but $22.34 on Amazon. I have been intrigued by cushions but the other ones I have seen reviewed were sheer. This one sounds quite good– I was especially pleased to see that it does not stick to dry patches. Looks like it has no SPF but I usually wear an SPF product under my foundation anyway. I may try this one if I see it in store, thanks!

oh yesterday it was 12.99! Now it looks like it is gone from amazon but available from an amazon seller at that price how absurd!

Haven’t been much of a Maybelline fan until lately; their better skin powder is awesome. I may have to give this a try (I am woefully behind the times in terms of Asian-inspired beauty products )

Classic ivory is my perfect fit! Love that it is hydrating and provides a bit of coverage. I’d like to try this especially when traveling.

I am so excited to try this! If it’s anything like the Physician’s Formula version, I’ll love it!

I found this at bed bath and beyond! So far this is the only review I’ve seen for it so I was wondering if they released it early or something :S lol
Love it for my dry skin! And like you said the finish is great, it’s not as tacky as the loreal cushion. Great review!

I absolutely love it! I purchased the caramel(#55) b’cuz I have a tan & it went on so smoothly. My face just “glows” with this makeup…thank you Maybelline!

I recently purchased this after seeing a bunch of reviews on YouTube. AMAZING! Why hasn’t this product been advertised and praised within an inch of it’s life? It looks so good on my skin and feels great and stays on all day. It’s so easy to put on and blends so well. I hope it stays available for a long time.
