Maybelline Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer ($7.99) is a new chubby concealer stick or crayon that released with the Maybelline Spring 2017 Collection. Concealer junkie that I am I quickly snatched up two shades and decided to test it out for myself. This is a cream concealer that apparently contains light-reflecting pearls to brighten up the area around your eyes. Yeah, that made me cringe. I hate concealers with shimmer or sparkle as I feel like they are putting a spotlight on my finer lines and drier skin. But, I decided to try this anyway.

And here’s what I thought!

Remember a few years ago when drugstore brands were going releasing chubby concealer sticks left and right? Covergirl Tru Blend Fixstick Concealer, L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer, and there more recent E.L.F. Beautifully Bare Lightweight Concealer Stick. Maybelline Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer feels like it comes a few years too late.

This comes housed in a 0.11 oz swivel up barrel with a dome shaped tip for application. I think the dome shape is a lot easier to use compared to the crayon top that Covergirl and L’Oreal’s formula had. This shape fits a lot more easier in the wells under my eyes which makes for easy application.

The concealer has a light, creamy consistency that blended fairly easily but something feels off about it. The good news would be it doesn’t contain any shimmer or glitter and I didn’t notice any light-reflecting pearls but I did find both shades I tried a bit too yellow for my taste but I imagine this is where the “brightening” comes into play.

As I said above this blended nicely but something was off about it. It felt plastic-y and rather odd! Kind of like a concealer you’d get in one of those massive makeup palettes. Although it felt creamy and the blend was nicely and smooth I thought it looked rather patchy and almost instantly creeped into my finer lines. The color is very sheer as well. The wear time was short at around three hours before fading completely away.

Maybelline Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer seems like it is five years too late. I know Maybelline can do better with their concealer range but continues to churn out very mediocre concealer formulas that are either off in color, dry in formula, too sheer, or just plain horrible. Bring back Dream Mousse Concealer and call it a day.

Maybelline Dream Brightening Creamy Concealer is available now at Ulta.com or amazon.com.

Thanks for the review! I was looking forward to trying this, but you and I are very much alike about concealers, so I know I won’t like this. I always look for the “Muse Approved” seal before I buy anything LOL

I agree. I think all of these in a tube, regardless of brand, tend to tug at the skin, I have several brands of these type that really need to be tossed out because old and dry.
    Dream mouse was a dream!
Have you sen the Maybelline concealers in the pan? these are at ULTA-just saw for the first time yesterday: a yellow/peachy with green and a highlighter, a darker yellow peach with highlighter and a much darker version for darker skins. I passed on these for now:)

Oh do you mean the maybelline concealer corrector palette? Master class something or another? I passed on it because the L’Oreal one wasn’t so fab :-/

I tried the pan concealere and only the one color worked but it irritated my skin :/
As for this, it’s just an ok product. At least it is cheap.

Muse, How did you know I was looking for a new color crayon?? I’ve been using an old Maybelline but it’s too dry now – or rather it shows any dry patches. Seems most are either too dry or too greasy. Got any suggestions for those of us with our lovely dry patches?

I loved it and bought more. Don’t use foundation. This does it all. Perfect skin tone match. Easy bright. A huge difference. Just wish I knew if it was full of parabens. I am older and have plenty of scars from those.
