Remember when BB Cream for your hair was a thing? That happened, true story! Micellar Water and Exfoliating Scrubs for your hair are totally a thing at the moment. Yup, of course, the hair industry has to cash in on the wild success of micellar water and make it into something for your hair. Also, on hair trend at the moment are exfoliating scrubs which act to exfoliate your scalp and de-grease it while removing build up and flakes. People, Lush has being doing this for over ten years with their Big Shampoo but it’s nice to see some new options out there. Let’s hope they don’t turn your hair into straw the way Lush’s formula does.

Let’s take a look at these new products.

DevaCurl Buildup Buster Micellar Water Cleansing Serum $28
A gentle silicone-free serum that uses micellar technology to attract buildable and gently cleanse hair while adding shine, bounce, and moisture courtesy jojoba and Abyssinian seed oil.

L’Oreal EverFresh Micro-Exfoliating Scrub $9
An exfoliating scrub with apricot seeds that acts to gently exfoliate your scalp while removing flakes, excess oil, and buildup to promote a healthier scalp.

What do you think of this trend?

I actually like it. I’m always looking for ways to detox my scalp and wash away buildup!

What do you think?

I’ve used the L’oreal scrub, the exfoliating grains did not make a different to my super coarse/thick hair. Overall I would say the one is a pass, because its a bunch of silicones with tiny little walnut(?) fragments. I’ll stick with Korean “scaling” products.

If you’re looking for something for oily roots, Innisfree makes a mint scaling treatment. Although beware if you’re sensitive as the mint is strong!

I have fine (but plentiful) hair and was similarly unimpressed with it. There’s not enough scrubby bits in it to do any good. It hasn’t done a damn thing. You’d be better off hand mixing a handful of sugar into your shampoo.

I was wondering if the l’oreal product also functions as a shampoo, or do you need to shampoo afterwards. I kind of want to try it but NOT if it adds an extra step, it already takes me 12 years to wash my hairs!

It doesn’t. It doesn’t foam at all and the texture reminds me more of a conditioner (though not as rich) than a shampoo. The directions on the packaging say to shampoo after using.

I’ve been resisting ponying up the cash for the Cristophe Robin scalp scrub, so I think I’ll definitely pick up this L’Oreal version on my next trip to Ulta!

Gimmicky for sure . I have oily roots. I use apple cider vinegar just on the scalp.. excellent at clarifying, neutralizing Ph levels on scalp. Yes, it stinks, but it works! I do love reading about all these new innovative products but initial reaction for me is gimmick.

I’ve tried the Christoph scrub along with some others, but it’s so hard to get the scrubby bits on my actual scalp (and I have fine hair). Feels more like a waste of time and money. I am interested in trying the DevaCurl product…I already use several of their products and enjoy them.
