About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I wish I was more impressed with Ulta as a brand…most everything I’ve tried has been such poor quality. Every year my husband gets me one of their huge makeup kits which always suck, and I never actually use but I don’t have the heart to tell him that I hate them!

How is the Ulta brand quality these days? In the past, their eyeshadows (for instance) were not up to snuff and their shower gels could not compete with Bath & Body Works. As a result, I gave up trying. Are they on a par with Sephora Collection or do they still have a ways to go?

hit or miss for me and not as good as Sephora although I do love the shower gel smoothies 😀 We def have a ways to go though! Somethings are fab others are mushy mushy!

That shadow switching pan is genius. I have a similar item from Sephora and your brush comes out perfectly clean and the black rough sponge can be rinsed clean when it starts to get caked up- run and get one. This one I will have to get because I love the idea of the middle part being used to dampen the brush.

I thought I read somewhere that you can use a Bun form from the dollar store, thats in the same thing.

Ugh, just a couple of months ago I spent twice as much on the eyeshadow switch sponge tin from Sephora! (Which is actually a really cool tool and works great. Glad someone’s making a cheaper version!)

And I just placed an order for 3 of these new items (the 4th being a gray gel eyeliner; only recently noticed I am lacking a gray liner in my collection, I like their gel pencils, and hey, free). Plus their current beauty bag free with $60 purchase contains some items I’d like to try, so I had to add a couple of IT items that caught my eye from a separate email from IT this morning. (of course checked your review first, for the Ombre Radiance blush!) Funny how the promise of “free,” plus 3x points for platinum members, just got me to say goodbye to $62.52 of my hard-earned money! Oh but the free-ness, they’re practically paying me to shop! Kudos to Ulta marketing, credit where credit is due.

I am not crazy about Ulta but I am crazy about Honest Beauty and they are having a sale on some of their products right now! I got great deals on the Rose Gold Glimmer kit and Nothing but the Lips collection. Check it out.

I look at the country of Origin on all their items. I bought some lip pencils because they were made in Germany. The quality was decent.

About the Ulta quality… Note that the large makeup kits are NOT indicative of the quality of their individual products. Those kits are manufactured at lower quality and many of the standard line products are very good. I like their lip products especially. Good glosses, notably the high shine gloss, I think it is – very pigmented.
