Zaphod Beeblebrox Has No Problems With His Makeup Collection

I have a theory that Zaphod Beeblebrox has absolutely no problems with his vast collection of makeup. Why? Because he has two heads. I thought long and hard about this and I think it might be the solution to actually making use of my vast makeup, beauty, and skincare collection.

Or maybe I have too much and even if I had two heads that wouldn’t help!

How about you?

Get your towel, hitchhikers and let’s chat how vast your makeup collection really is!

Off topic, but I suspect Sam Rockwell’s version of Zaphod was totally based off Justin Hawkins do the math on that one and tell me I’m not right. Either that or Russell Brand! But I’m gearing towards Justin, hell, I’ve seen the Darkness in concert quite a few times and you never know, Justin actually MIGHT really be Zaphod! Stranger $h1T has happened!

But back to makeup…..!

I seriously, do not have enough faces to apply everything I’ve collected over the years. I find that makeup releases too quickly for me to enjoy it fully. As soon as something launched, for example, the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Palette, something else is releasing at the same exact time, for example the Too Faced Natural Love Palette, and I just don’t have a chance to enjoy using the product because I’m overwhelmed with something else that just got launched at the same time.

Phew.

That was a mouth full.

I made a little bit of a resolution this year that I would try not to overindulge in beauty and so far, I’ve been pretty good. I’ve seen a ton of new skincare that I’m simply gagging to buy but after careful consideration I stepped back and told myself I’d use what I already have. I’m quite proud of myself at the moment.

Moral of the story? I either need to grow another head (or five) or I really need to buckle down and try to get my current stash under control.

Do you simply have too much makeup and beauty?

Need another face to use it on?

Do share!

This entire post is beautiful. Hitchhiker’s reference AND a cheesy rock song I was obsessed with in high school? Girl we could be friends!

I honestly have way too much make up too, I don’t know how I’m ever going to use what I have now in my lifetime. I started giving things away and throwing things away to pair down my stash, but there’s still too much! And I’m still going to buy more. I tell myself I won’t, but let’s be honest, I will. Right now I’m trying to talk myself out of Tarte’s Make Believe in Yourself eye and cheek palette. It’s so shiny and beautiful and I really want it but do I need it? Ahh what we do to ourselves, haha!

LOL Sarah! Anyone who loves Justin is totally my BFF ;-D not to mention Douglas Adams! Likewise, I ask myself, “Am I going to use all this in my life?!?!?” Seriously, it’s just too much! I tell myself this every single day and I fail so miserably 😀 See? Not only do we have the Darkness and Hitchhiker’s Guide in common but also, our lack of willpower seems very much the same 😀

I loved the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy books, and the cheesy UK series but I simply cannot get through the movie with Sam Rockwell and therefore, I cannot weigh in on his inspiration for Zaphod.

Heck, two heads wouldn’t be enough to utilize all the make up I have, especially eye shadow. I can’t say I’ve cut back insomuch as I’ve become more selective, have eliminated certain brands based on bad experiences, and I rotate stuff so that anything I fear might be expired goes. I have also resolved not to buy any more storage boxes and force myself to keep things at a level to fit in the containers I have (which is still too much by most standards).

I also try to stick to a mantra that has helped me: would I want to lug this with me if I was moving? I learned that from being a bibliophile and moving boxes and boxes of books are a major drag.

omg the remake was so scary bad lol! It was awful! The cheesy UK one was a joy! My x-boyfriend was completely in love with that version, we must have sat and watched it a hundred times and knew the lines to every scene. I keep telling myself to slow down but I honestly, fail so hard. Oh girl please don’t get me started on booksssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are having our bedroom and bathroom completely gutted and remodeled right now, and one of my REQUIREMENTS was a large area of drawers to store my makeup collection. Yes, literally designing my house around my makeup, LOL!

I have way too much and definitely could use another head or two or maybe another place to put it all. I’m good about rotating my stash and passing on what I don’t like or don’t use to family or friends, but still.

I’ve been really good since the holidays about using what I have…until yesterday came along. Mally had 30% off site wide and I picked up her perfect palette as I’m always on the hunt for that perfect travel palette and have wanted that one for awhile. Today Luxie brushes were on GMA steals and deals for 50% off so had to get some of those. It’s a struggle!

    • Isabella Muse

I’m the same! I try to rotate often and I gift a lot of stuff but still………………! I avoided Mally’s site like the plague!!!!!!!! and I try not to read GMA steals and deals! They had Tokyo Milk on about a week or two ago and I really had to step back from the computer!

My collection is vast. I have a whole room for it, but I’m also really good at gifting away what I don’t use. My rule is to not buy backups of anything, and I must use everything I purchase. I eventually get bored of what I have, including those collectibles, so I tend to give them away and make room for new purchases. The way I see it, it’s like clothing or shoes and handbags. I want something new, I’ll use it for a while, and then I’ll give it away (except if it’s designer…which I don’t really have too many of, so I’m good!). No harm done and someone else can enjoy it.

    • Isabella Muse

EEP LIKEWISE! We are twins Christina. A room for makeup, constant kdramas in rotation, yes we are so related 😀 It’s true, it is a lot like clothing/shoes/accessories. After a while you get board with it and just want something new to try!

Does the 2nd head kinda looks like Paul McCartney or was it just me?

i have eye shadow pallets that have been barely touched, lipsticks that have never been used yet, and the same with some blushes. Pretty sure that I’m going to let my sephora status lapse because honestly, it’s not worth being rouge. They don’t have money back discounts, the sample points perks kinda suck, and I can quite a bit of what I need from Ulta and they have a money back. also, ulta’s platinum threshold is quite a bit lower than sephora’s. honestly, ulta’s has been stepping up so hard lately, it’s going to be like “sephora who?”

    • Isabella Muse

Mmmm….I’m not seeing it. Maybe Paul circa 1969. 😀 The only thing that I maintain rouge status (or vib) is the 20% off come november, otherwise no perks :-/

  • Chris

Yes, I need 2 heads and about 8 arms with hands to use up my makeup stash AND nailpolishes! I have been better at throwing out or giving away the small GWP samples to friends like mascaras, but I am still hanging on to mini palettes which I keep saying are good for travel!

I have 2 1/2 drawers in the bathroom vanity devoted to makeup and skincare products. Maybe I need an intervention or maybe more girlfriends to share goodies with! 😀

If we get to live until we finish up all our makeup in our collections, then I will never die :).

But more seriously, I’ve gotten a LOT better about it. I’ve finally been tossing the items that I’ve used a little, but I now know that I will never reach for again because I have so many others I like better. I have two boxes of “used once” items, mostly nail polishes, that I let friends go through and take what they like. If I knew of places that took such things as donations, I’d donate them.

This isn’t to say I’m not buying more stuff, but I’ve honestly gotten way more realistic about what I’m actually going to use. I’m even letting most of my birthday coupons go because I just don’t need anything.

(Until the next perfect dark purple shimmer nail polish comes along, and then all bets are off!)

Lol! Best tip ever grow a few heads! I keep telling myself this is my last purchase for the entire year or my lifetime but yet, read Musingsofamuse, Makeup.com, Makeupgalkery and there’s no end to temptations! But it is so fun and therapeutic I cannot blame any of us. My next passion is shoes, currently in the prices of eliminating a few. But I love rotating through my makeup everyday.

    • Isabella Muse

right? Just grow more heads, more room for makeup 🙂 don’t talk to me about shoes or handbags, that collection is just as vast as my makeup one haha!
