CVS Removes Parabens, Phthalates, And Other Gunk from Their Beauty Line

Remember a few years ago when natural and green beauty was everything. How many people remember Cargo Plant Love or Physicians Formula Organic Wear? Green is taking a new turn in the beauty world in the next two years as CVS plans to completely remove parabens, phthalates, and other gunk from their in store beauty brands. By 2019, all of the CVS in store brands will not contain these ingredients and that includes anything from the CVS Health, Beauty 360, and Essence of Beauty lines.

Apparently, that makes up over 600 products that are currently by these brands. CVS’s, Vice President was quoted as saying, “We listened when customers voiced their desire for products that still provide the benefits they need with fewer ingredients of concern. Todays announcement is a natural step in the evolution of our comprehensive approach to chemical safety.” While there isnt conclusive research to show the effects of parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde, this is just a further sign of the coming “natural” beauty revolution. Its getting a little easier to be “green.”

So, if these ingredients are ones that you avoid using in your daily beauty and makeup routine you’ll be happy to know there are many “green” friendly products that will be available soon at your local CVS.

I like the sound of that. I hope fragrance is included in the list, too. (Though I can’t think of too many CVS beauty products I’ve bought.) But fragrance is my ultimate pass on skin care. I’ve broken out in nasty hives and painful zits too many times to count after applying a lotion or foundation that’s perfumed.

As I’ve recently developed an allergy to parabens, this is great news!

I was glad to read this.

Am I the only one who would be kind of interested in a CVS house brand of color cosmetics?

I’d be interested to see what they could pull off in the color dept.

Well, yay!! Glad to see that happening… I agree with Heidi, too. I would love to see them ditch fragrances in their products. Fragrance is often a make it or break it deal with me…. I can’t stand heavily scented products BLEAH!! My nose and skin don’t like them, and there is no reason whatsoever to have fragrance in a skincare product.

I like the change. I was happy when they removed cigarettes from their stores.

I got the last two cans of lighter fluid at CVS at a deep discount…. to remove the glue from pans I was/am depotting. They forgot to ditch the accessories at first. It’s like micellar water for adhesive. Glad I got one and a back up, bec. who but a smoke shop (at HE prices) will have it now?

personally I’d rather have preservatives in my beauty products..I could be totally wrong but I feel like they would be a breeding ground for nasty bacteria without them.

So glad to hear this! I rotate between Target, CVS and Rite all near me walking distances a few times I’ll go to Walgreens but is surrounded by homeless and don’t find it safe. Is great that they are making the switch to healthy! I’m watching like a hawk for the arrival of Korean cosmetics and skin care have not seen it yet. Target remains the cheapest but then CVS has those great deals! I really appreciate this having a bit of sensitive skin. Cool!

What a great idea – I wish that all brands could remove the excess chemicals from their products.
