Hard Candy Blooming Lip Oil Review & Swatches

Hard Candy Blooming Lip Oil ($6) is a new, unique way to embrace the lip oil trend that’s sweeping the beauty world. Lip oils are a makeup trend that seem to return again and again. It all started, last year when Milani Moisture Lock Oil Infused Lip Treatment launched at drugstores. After that, everyone was launching some sort of interesting lip oil formula. It’s actually a trend that’s much more evolved at the drugstore than with mid or higher end brands. This year, quite a few different drugstore lines are doing a lip oil like the recently released Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Oil that launched earlier this Spring.

And now Hard Candy is getting in the trend but they obviously recognized that people might just be a little tired of the trend. So, their Blooming Lip Oil has a little twist…something a little different to keep you interested.

Hard Candy Blooming Lip Oil is available in three shade selections with a hydrating oil formula that promises up to eight hours of moisture but wait, there’s more! Their version not only hydrates but also reacts with your pH levels to create a customized unique shade on lips. So, you get the best of both world’s here. Not only a lip oil but also, a color changing pH lipgloss. Nifty right? Way to keep things interesting, Hard Candy! This comes housed in a cute floral decorated tube that has an attached flat sponge paddle applicator for application which is 0.47 oz in size.

Apparently, this formula is packed with 10 essential oils that act to repair and heal lips while providing eight hours of moisture. For me, these feel like a slightly stickier lipgloss. The formula is thin, lightweight, slightly sticky with a tiny bit of an oiliness to them that adds nice moisture. I don’t mind the slight tackiness as it allows the oil to wear considerably longer on my lips at around three hours. I liked the texture a lot! It’s thin, lightweight, and it feels quite nice on my lips. My shade had a light peppermint flavor, I’m not sure if that extends to the other shades as well as there’s one named Zen Strawberry which I’m just assuming might taste like strawberry!?

Hard Candy Blooming Lip Oil Swatches (Black Rose)

I picked up Black Rose which isn’t clear by any means. It’s a dark grape shade that transforms into a Clinique Black Honey-like color. It’s a deeper, berry shade that was quite lovely! It’s perfect for Fall lip looks. It does morph as they promised from darker grape to a purple-y berry. It has a nice hint of shine to the finish and as it wears away it leaves a lasting reddish stain behind.

For $6 bucks, this formula is delightful. This hybrid formula brings together the finish of a gloss, the formula of a moisturizing oil, and the color changing ability of a pH lip product into one budget friendly option. I loved it and I’d totally buy a few of the other shades!

Hard Candy Blooming Lip Oil is available now exclusively at walmart.com.

I didn’t like the smell of the one I got. I guess the minty-ness was not what I was expecting.

Oh dang! I just got the clinique black honey lip oil from the sephora sale…

I got “Calming Peach” and ended up passing it along to someone else. I do not like minty lip products, it had a gross fragrance, gave me zero color, and it actually left my lips feeling drier….! 🙁 I wish I’d at least gotten this shade so it would have given me some sort of color. Oh well! I may have liked it more without the peppermint oil, though I will say I’m glad they didn’t use menthol like everyone else does.

Oh my goodness, this is the same shade of the Fierce Effects lip gloss I love so much! I’ve noticed that line of glosses disappearing from stores and it’s no longer on their Web site…so glad to see it’s been reborn!
