I Wouldn’t Suffer the Fiery Pits of Mordor, I Mean Walmart, for This Deodorant

I’d suffer the fiery pits of Mordor for Secret Va Va Vanilla Deodorant. I’m ever so slightly obsessed with vanilla anything. It’s a gourmand note I fondly favor and that isn’t limited to perfume! I’ll take it in my deodorant as well.

For whatever reason, they stash Va Va Vanilla away in the deep, dark, recesses of Walmart. It proves impossible to find anywhere else for some reason. I’ll hit up Target, CVS, Walgreens, you name it but I can never find Va Va Vanilla anywhere but at the evil empire aka Walmart.

But you know what I wouldn’t suffer the fiery pits of Mordor ahh I mean Walmart for?

…………the new Va Va Vanilla Secret Clear Gel! I hit up Walmart recently because I wanted to explore some of the new Flower Beauty Spring offerings. Believe me, I go into Walmart kicking, screaming, and throwing myself on the floor. I hate Walmart with a passion. But sometimes, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! So, I grit my teeth, grab Lucille, and do my best to make it in and out alive.

While quickly walking through the beauty aisles I knew I had to make a quick stop and grab some Va Va Vanilla to restock my stash so, I wouldn’t have to come back too soon. Much to my delight they had a gel version of it. I mean I gasped out loud to myself when I saw it. The guy in the aisle that was sniffing Old Spice deo looked at me a little odd when I quickly popped four of them in my cart. Dude, you’re the one sniffing deo so, why are you looking at me all weird?!

But yeah, totally scored four of those bad boys and ran to the cash register with my treasure.

You see, up until now, for whatever reason, Va Va Vanilla has only been available in a solid. I really like gel especially in the Summer months. Because when you’re wearing a tank no one likes those little crumbles and pilings of white deodorant that sprinkle down like arm dandruff.

Monday I woke up extra early because A. I had an early meeting or B. I was just really excited to try out Va Va Vanilla in a gel formula! Getting up early was a decision I made for one of those two reasons for sure. I took my shower, dried off, popped the cap on my new deo and proceeded to hear that satisfying clicking sound as I waited for the gel to flow into the top.

As I swiped it on I realized one of two things, 1. It did not smell like anything at all! The fragrance was very, very, very light and barely there! and 2. I wouldn’t be torturing myself with any trips to Walmart to restock. I felt both relief and disappointment. It was great I wouldn’t have to return to Walmart anytime soon to replenish my supply but I felt so let down that the yummy vanilla scent simply wasn’t there.

What went wrong, Secret?

Sad sigh.

Needless to say I wouldn’t recommend a pick up.

This one so disappointed.

And that my friends is my story of the week.

Are you a Va Va Vanilla fan?

If so, avoid the gel!

this makes me so sad for you! you whacked the zombies away with lucielle and had such a disappointment! feel the same way about Wal-Mart- I used to work there as a teen and it sucked pretty badly. the last time i was at the evil empire it was during an ice storm- perfect time to go!!

    • Isabella Muse

not so much the zombies but the people of walmart def got a whack or two! ;-P 🙂 Ha! Was it busy or slow? I picture all the weirdos being out full force and take cover at Walmart during an ice storm!

there was nobody there- it was awesome! I picked up the couple of things i needed and was in & out under 20min.

i used to be a die hard secret user but the formula turned on me and it was not a good smell! *ehrmahgawdistunksooobad!!* the only brand i can use now is dove, everything else turns within a week.

damn! I need that kind of trip to wally world in my life haha! oh no! I’m like that with all the natural deos out there, they just go wonky with my body chemistry!

After an early-morning jaunt to Wal-Mart this weekend, I discovered the secret to shopping there: If at all possible, get there when they first open. If you can get there early AND on a weekday, it’s actually a pleasant shopping experience! Who knew?! 🙂

I love the new scents Secret’s been coming out with. I’ll be trying the regular version of Va Va Vanilla. Also want to try the Orchid scent. I currently have the Cocoa Butter gel and the regular Hawaii one. Both are nice.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! really?! I will go early next time! Wish me luck! 😀 They have a new citrus one that smells quite lovely 😀

  • Michelle

I don’t really care for Va Va Vanilla because of the fruity note in it, but I really wish they’d make a deodorant out of the Olay shave gel Vanilla Cashmere! Same parent company, Proctor and Gamble so it could totally be done.

    • Isabella Muse

OMG YES please yes! I’d buy that in a heartbeat! 😀 Or a mist/perfume/something/anything! Throw us a bone!

Thanks to one of your earlier posts about Secret’s VaVa Vanilla scent, I am now a convert. Love it so much! However, I can’t make myself walk through the doors of any Wal-Mart so I purchase it off Walgreen’s website. I’m probably paying too much but it so good I think it’s worth it.

    • Isabella Muse

ha I love I converted you! I typically buy four of them so I don’t have to go back too often for a restock lol!

  • Gillie

I laugh every time I see you post about this deodorant and the fiery pits of Mordor – aka Wal-Mart. I’m used to deodorant + rashy reaction to deodorant ingredients = (arm)pits on fire! 😀

  • Poly

That’s my favorite also, I’ve never had problem finding it at walgreens

  • Nat

I started buying this scent after your last post about it – I buy it off Amazon! 🙂

      • Nat

Hard for me to judge; I’m not sure how much it costs in drugstores so I can’t make a comparison. Plus I buy it off the Canadian Amazon website (although I checked and it’s on the American one too). 😀

I must be a big minority but I LOATHE scented deodorant. I no longer wear antiperspirant, but when I did it had to be unscented, specifically Arm and Hammer unscented (armpit allergic reaction is pretty awful), which was a real pain to find! I’d hunt every store I happened to be in JIC. I went on a business trip last year and when I got off the airport realized I reeeeeeeked, no way I could go to an interview reeking of stress sweat. (On any ordinary day I don’t care so much. I’m human, I stink.) Well I hit a CVS and picked up some cucumber nonsense. It distracted me all day, all through my interview. Fortunately I didn’t rash out, but good lord, I just can’t deal with the scents.

    • Isabella Muse

It’s understandable! I totally get not liking scented products 🙂 I like them but believe me, you aren’t alone 🙂 Lots of people don’t like fragrance in their body care!

  • Penny

We have an awesome Walmart near where we live and I love shopping there…the store is clean and neat…the people who work there are nice and the people who shop there are actually wearing clothes and not pajamas…never had a bad experience shopping there. 🙂

We must be a totally weird community – we have TWO Walmarts girl. We have the huge insane one (I won’t hardly go there unless I just have to) and we have a “Market” store. The smaller one is Cool!!! It just carries about a 1/4 of the stuff… no clothes, shoes, toys, or extras… just food – and make up, and everyday stuff and has a pharmacy. It’s new and clean — it’s a ways from where I actually live, but by interstate I can be there in 5 minutes. I’ve totally changed stores, even though the Super is so close. I love scented deodorants…. but I sure didn’t know there was a vanilla one! I love Dove’s line but the bust up when you get to the last part, and it’s SO wasteful…. so I get Agree. Not really happy but I cannot stand to sweat!!!

    • Isabella Muse

ugh wish I had a smaller one that was clean and well kept. I have several super ones and they are just a horror show!

  • Michele McCool

Yeah they seemed to have changed the fragrance. I only use gel and vanilla is so hard to find.

    • Isabella Muse

gel is harder to find than the solid in vanilla! That’s so sad 🙁 Now I don’t want to buy it!

        • Isabella Muse

I’ve tried that one but I adore the vanilla the most 😀
