Yay or Nay: Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Palette

So, now that the Tarte Make Believe in Your Eye & Cheek Palette has been out a few weeks most of you likely got your hands on it and you’ve been using it in daily looks. Or maybe you’re just saving it and taking it out from time to time and gaze at it while stroking it lovingly. No judgement here, I whisper sweet nothings to some of my favorite, unused makeup palettes.

Whatever you’re doing with, the question that really begs answering is would be is it a Yay or Nay?

Do you love the palette?

Or was it a miss for you?

Do share!

Yay for me! I liked the palette. I’m not into the Mermaids, Unicorns, Metallics, and Magic trend that seems to be hitting the beauty world at the moment but I did like this palette. It’s a nice assortment of vibrant shades and works great for anyone even those that are a little shy about color. The gel formula applied quite nicely on my lids although, I did hear people complain they had problems picking color up with their brush! Try a sponge tipped eyeshadow applicator! It packs on color really easily!

I think it’s a nice palette overall with a great formula. I can see myself using it quite often in the Summer for some fun and wearable metallic looks. The metallic isn’t the frosty, overly glittery finish that I hate either which was a plus.

What did you think of the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Palette?

Was it a yay or a nay?

I just received this a week before the tarte 30% sale. I keep looking at the colors but did not use it yet. I know I am crazy. It got great reviews on Tarte website. The colors are very pretty and different

If it makes you feel any better, I dont think the 30% off worked on this item anyway.

Hi, Muse! I finally got to try this palette out this past weekend. I normally dislike added scents but I actually like the vanilla in this; it makes me think of marshmallows (and smells like bareMinerals’ Marvelous Moxie lipsticks, which I love). I didn’t try the highlighter on my cheeks but I loved it on my eyes. Overall, I loved it. It actually reminds me of the Korean eye shadows I’ve been using lately (Heimish and Pony x Memebox) so right now, I’m using to working with shimmery eye shadows that need to be patted on with a flat brush versus swept with a fluffy brush, so I was able to apply with more issue. I think previous to that, I would’ve been frustrated with the lack of more dark-toned/deeper colors for contrast but I think this works great for a light, spring look and I love this as an alternative to the usual spring pastel releases (which look chalky on me and I hate).

    • Agona

My grammar was bad in that post, yikes. I meant, “I’m used to working with shimmery” and “apply with no issue”. -_-

story of my life, I totally understood what you meant lol! don’t worry!

    • Isabella Muse

Couldn’t agree more on the pastel shades! I enjoyed this much more than the normal round of pastels and excellent technique packing on color 😀 I love the Pony X stuff as well! Her lines with memebox have been outstanding!

  • diane

i’m terrible because i bought this launch day and am yet to dive into it. LOL

      • diane

i am so lazy on work mornings i just wear LG french vanilla under brow bone and one light pinkish/champagne on the lids and i’ve become equally lazy with applying too many shadows on weekend. i suck. =/ LOL

        • Isabella Muse

likewise. I suck hard lol! I’ve literally not worn makeup for three in the last two weeks! SO UNLIKE ME!

  • Christina Tran

Nope, didn’t like it. I ended up returning it. I tried every method imaginable to apply this, but in the end, the colors just weren’t as vivid as I wanted them to be. They’re pretty pastel metallic shades, but I don’t want to break out the Fix Plus, sponge applicators, etc. to be able to use them–and I know how to apply all types of eye shadows. I just wanted the base colour to be stronger because some of them look pretty darn similar on my lids because of my skintone.

Ah well, I’ve never had much luck with Tarte’s products in general, so I should probably quit buying them.

    • Isabella Muse

aw I know you had isues Christina sorry girl! Oh well more money for something else 😀

  • Stephanie

Hi Muse! It’s a yay for me. The colors are beautiful and I love that they’re shimmery, but not in your face bright.

I experienced some fallout and not being able to pack on the color at first, but I switched my eyeshadow brush and it’s much better now. I also find myself opening it and looking at it for no reason sometimes lol. It’s just that pretty.

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise Stephanie! I loved the color but the fact they weren’t too crazy wasa plus! Haha good for you enjoy it dear 😀 I started use a cream pot under them! It allows the color to stick better 😀

    • Agona

I found a flat stiff brush works best! I press down my brush, in a stamping motion. I only use primer (no cream base or Fix plus) and it worked great!!

  • Marina

I ordered mine during the 30% off sale and it should be coming in tomorrow! I am excited to play with it! I don’t shy away from color, but I really like the muted metallics in this. Should be fun for the summer!

  • Robin

I like it and I’m glad I purchased it. It’s a good balance of color and neutrals and I like the looks I can do. I only use the highlighter as an eye shadow. Too much for me as a highlighter.

  • Susan

Yay for me. I love the pretty colors and can’t use tarte’s matte shades (they just don’t go on well for me, even with primer) so this palette is a great chance for me to get to use their shadows. I’m loving it, and also using a flat brush.

  • Diana

I wasn’t originally going to get it until I saw the swatches online and loved them. I had a ton of Ulta points, so I got the palette for free!

  • Carol G

Thanks for all the tips ladies. I purchased this but when I tried it using a brush the colors were quite sheer. Now I can try it using a sponge tip applicator or using a stiff, flat brush. Otherwise I like the colors. Something different from Tarte for sure.

  • CL

Miss for me. Too many frosty shades, and the one matte looks orange, and I already have an orange matte in my collection.

  • Christian

I got the new Tarte palette about a week ago and I love it so far! I’ve been dying to try Tarte but I’ve been waiting for a palette with color. Nows my chance!
Btw thanks for the application tips!

    • Agona

The Make Believe in Yourself palette has a different formula than their regular eye shadows (Amazonian Clay). I actually don’t particularly love their regular formula. Love, love, love their Rainforest of the Sea eye shadow formula though.

  • Ann Marie

“Frosty” is a good way to describe some of the colors. I tried the blue yesterday and just thought I looked like an 80’s throwback. I’ve also experienced quite a bit of glitter chunks on my checks throughout the day. I did use it with Fix+ but I still experienced the fall out. But all that said, I somehow can’t bring myself to return it because it’s SO beautiful!

  • Janessa

Total miss for me. And irritated the crap out of my eyelids. Made my eczema come out on my eyes as well. I’m so bummed! Unfortunately it would also be a miss for me aside from the irritation. The colors just didn’t POP the way I was hoping. Even applying with my fingers or a sponge to pack on… Super bummed. It’s going back this week…

PS – I just got home from Disneyland and I met Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin from Once Upon a Time and I had a MAJOR fangirl moment. Best way to start my bday celebration 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

OMG really?! TOO CUTE! Were they cosplaying by chance? I heard they like to dress up when at Disney 😀 Fun!

  • kjh

I decided against it, though have not swatched it in person. Figured if the top row of bridal satin is a tad too frosty for me, this would be a no go. That, plus the app issues everyone mentions. I wind up being annoyed by finicky and fussy, finding the best primer, best brush, etc. It’s unique for 10s Tarte… but, surprisingly, it’s fairly well duped in stash.

  • Maria

Muse. I finally used the kit today. I used 3 shades. It is not the same Tarte formula. I had to apply the shadow 4 times for color payoff and used 4 different brushes. The firm concealer brush was best by dabbing the shadows. I paid full price before the 30 percent sale. I will keep it since the colors are pretty. I guess I will try sponge tip application next time. I do not have any and have to get a bunch. Wished the shades on the eyes were as pigmented as in the pan.
