Bobbi Brown Eye Gloss for Summer 2017

Eye Gloss is still trying hard to become a thing! And Bobbi Brown is trying to make that happen with this new Eye Gloss formula that’s available in three shade selections. I have to admit I’ve had my love affair with Eye Gloss but nowadays, well I’m getting a little too old to walking around with a slick, glossy looking eyelid.

I probably have to have my head examined because recently Maybelline suggested mixing their Shine Shot Glassy Shine Lip Topcoat with some loose pigment or eyeshadow to create your own eye gloss. I was all gun ho to try that. Wild horses couldn’t pull me away from mixing MAC Pigment with clear, stick, tacky a$$ lipgloss. I was prepared to get down to mixing up that cocktail. My best friend had to pull me back from the edge and remind as awesome as Shine Shot Glassy Shine Lip Topcoat is on lips, it isn’t a formula one would want hanging out on their eyes.

Yeah, so applying sticky lipgloss on my eyes isn’t an option but maybe Bobbi Brown Eye Gloss will be! Available in three shades for the Summer 2017 season these liquid shadow formulas give lids a high impact gloss high shine that promises to never be sticky or tacky. The effect is a glossy finish with a hint of color!

Shades include:

  • Beach Nude
  • Island Pink
  • Nude

Whatcha think?

Should we embrace eye gloss?

It’s such a try-hard product! It’s really been attempting to break into the makeup world for years now and become a trend!

Maybe we need to give it a chance….!

Last week, I joined an event where BB MUAs and a BB-trained MUA were on-hand to provide makeup advice and demonstrate products (like various foundations). I inquired about the eye glosses (only 3 sets of the 3 shades were sent to the counter). I was told the gloss is meant to be worn for a short period of time and that the MUAs are still learning how to use the product, which is best dispensed directly from the tip. At my consultation, Ballet Pink cream eyeshadow was used on my oily lids and Island Pink gloss placed in the crease and above the mobile lid to address my hooded eyes. It looked glossy to start, though dried down within a few hours and left a sheen. I decided to only buy one and am still experimenting with it. I had the best result spraying a cream brush with MAC Fix + and grabbing some gloss on the side of the brush before applying. The gloss leaves a tacky feel which takes a long time to partially dry down. Mascara and tightlining were done beforehand, to make sure mascara wasn’t grabbed by the tackiness of the gloss. My initial observation is that this is a whimsical product, whose result may differ with different textures/shades, does not leave an effect of walking around with glossy eyes but tries down to a nice sheen. A fun product but not an obvious winner. The Glow Sticks may be the better investment. Would love to hear tips from others as this comes to the counters.

Tried that trend when it was a thing years ago with 2 pots of Anna Sui eye gloss. I am of the opinion that that look only works in editorials. IRL, it feels kinda gross and all kinds of things get stuck on that sticky surface.
