How Many Facial Oils and Face Powders Do We Need Anyway?

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

I came across the new Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Filtered Light Setting Powder and Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil and had to ask myself how many facial oils and face powders do I need anyway? I was pretty close to ordering the facial oil but code LETSGLOW at Sephora.com got me a Free Sample of it during my recent order. SCORE! Saved from ordering a full-size when I really don’t need another facial oil stash.

My life is becoming a little jaded because I really question how many facial oils I need. I keep telling myself I’ll finish the skincare I already have before indulging in a new product but I fail miserably at it.

Needless, to say when I noticed Tarte had a new Rainforest of the Sea Filtered Light Setting Powder available I didn’t jump on it. I don’t use powder anyway so, this wasn’t something I had to jump on. But I got to thinking about people that do use face powder and I was left wondering, do you really need to buy another one? Are people jumping in joy because this vanilla-tinted formula will absorb shine and set their makeup? Not to mention it apparently prevents flashback in phones and contains antioxidant algae and marine ingredients does that make it anymore tempting than the powder you’re currently using?

How about Kora oil which is loaded up with organic rosehip oil, pomegranate oil and sea buckthorn oils? I mean is it going to do anything better and or amazing for my skin than the current Clinique Smart Treatment Oil or SheaMoisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Overnight Facial Oil?

These are the questions that keep me up at night…!

Sounds like someone needs to do an anti-haul (hint, hint…I hope you’ll do one)!

This has nothing to do with facial oils, but the Mark Jacobs omega coconut bronzer is back in stock at Sephora!

Daaaaannnnggg…. I was thinking I didn’t need to order that Kora oil (since I have almost as many oils as you) but that is a rockin’ combination of oils for our skin…. Hmmmm…. wonder if the “letsglow” code is still good… Yah, cus I really need ‘nuther facial oil…. 😀

lol I was happy about the code because I seriously DO NOT need another facial oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

confession: my pathetic butt totally got suckered into buying the new tarte powder due to the vanilla scent! even though i have a draw of powders i’m trying to use up. LOL ooops. it does smell and work quite well.

    • Isabella Muse

lol I totally understand because it was a selling point for me too!!!!!! I was like on vanilla! I need! I had to pull back and say, wait you don’t even use powder? What are you thinking!?

I’m trying to follow a “only 1 backup” rule for skincare, bath & body–otherwise they just stack up and I never use them. 🙁

Maybe they’ll do a mini of the Tarte one so I can try it. Vanilla scented sounds nice! I do use powders regularly, oily/combo skin, but I already have a mini KVD powder that I’ve been using and some full-sized drugstore ones.

Oy, I got the ordinary squalane, bec I don’t have/use a lot of oils except for cleanse, not being dry. Holy better add a drop to other products! Kind of like a layer of crisco. Guess you guys see why they aren’t my thing. It took 2 hours to absorb. Guess I have enough naturally! Still haven’t found a hg powder, but am not obsessed with finding one. I think the Besame violet or LM will be next.

I did this yesterday. I had JM argon light oil and face butter in the cart and said you have many oils so off the site I go! And my last facial powder gave me a bacteria infection on my face. 1st time that has ever happened and I hope it is the last. 🙁

This is why I love your blog, I love the posts where you say what I’m thinking, yet admit to giving in and buying more products anyway, LOL! I am so guilty of this. Do I need another powder? No. Do I feel like I need to buy something simply because it’s a new release? YES. Honestly I don’t really buy the high end stuff, for me I get so drawn in by the new drugstore releases because they are cheap, so I feel like can go oh I’ll just buy all of this new stuff, and then it’s fifty dollars later….bad habit, I know.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL 😀 We are awful aren’t we? That’s is so ME ;-D Gosh lately it’s a 100 dollar habit! Drugstore makeup crazy expensive lately GASP!

      • Silvia

Oh Gosh! I’m the same! Lol! I love checking drugstores products and get carry away should not even pass by the makeup isle! I tell myself with two kids one graduated, one next year and their loans I’m not walking into a Sephora but yet but tons of fun stuff at drugstiresxand they are turning out great! Another one that dies not need more powder. Rimmel powder and bronzers are awarding though better than Maybelline or Cover Girl which has a slight yellow to them especially Maybelline. I’m new into oils so here I go…recently bought a fancy Caudalie Huile Divine it does smell divine. Also, La Bella rose hip oil at Target for boobs a female doc. told me to use for discomfort I had after a small surgery from one of those little cyst removed I found myself growing! Scary! It does help! Now I use while on wonderful pms.! Tip for the ladies. 😉

Oh! I see tons of typos. So sorry!
            Carried, dies,
but yet buy tons, drugstore and, awesome not awarding.

            Wish I could delete.

I only like to have one bottle of face oil open at one time. It’s the one category of skin care product that I always forget to use. And that stuff expires pretty quickly!

Powders I don’t mind having a few pots open at once. Powders, especially loose powders that don’t contain any glycerin or oils at all in their formulation, don’t really expire IMO and at the very least, has a much longer lifespan than what is stated on the container.

  • Jennifer

It takes me forever to go through powder and I have combo skin. I have three on deck (KVD Brightening Powder, an Hourglass Ambient Powder and my Cover FX powder) and that’s all I need to last me for a good long while. Powder is not a “fun” product so I don’t see the need to have multiple brands in my stash.

  • J

I only need one powder if I’m being ruthless…but I have 3-4 right now, and I don’t think I’m ever going to finish them, they take foreverrrrr! D:
