NARS Orgasm Lipstick Review & Swatches

NARS Orgasm Lipstick ($28) joins the Orgasm Collection this Summer as a permanent shade in the NARS Satin Lipstick formula. If you read my blog you know I’m a massive Orgasm fan! I love the blush with all my heart and have since collected everything NARS has released in the shade. Until recently, the thing missing from my little stash of Orgasm was a lipstick and I’m happy to report that NARS now has one!

NARS Orgasm Lipstick is a warmer golden pink shade with a pretty gold sparkle. It’s a gorgeous shade but I wouldn’t quite say it’s as deep as the blush color, it seemed a little lighter to me. I was actually disappointed with the color pay off on this but I later realized that NARS created this as a sheerer shade or as they call it a sheer provocation. It does build up nicely but it takes several layers to get good color pay off.

I pinned a lot of hopes on this shade and both the formula and pigment disappointed me. It seemed to look so much more golden pink shimmer in the promo images! The models had these gorgeous plumped up pinky peach lips. The formula tugged a fair bit on my lips during application and fell into my natural lip lines which gave it a patchy appearance. The finish wasn’t sparkly even though there are larger golden pieces of sparkle in the formula and it actually ended up looking frosty on me. Solution to all this drama? A little clear gloss! It made the finish quite nicer and even made the sparkle a bit more visibly not to mention it made the finish look smoother.

NARS Orgasm Lipstick with Clear Gloss

All in all, NARS Orgasm Lipstick wasn’t quite what I was hoping but I’d must admit I still loved the way it looked when paired up with Orgasm Blush! I just wish the finish, formula, and color payoff was just a bit better.

NARS Orgasm Lipstick is available now at narcosmetics.com and also at Sephora.com.
Will you be indulging?

I think I will! And I like the way it looks on you even in the first picture. It looks like a great color for summer.

  • Janessa

Oh no! Say it isn’t so!! I have been waiting for you to review since I know we share the same eternal love for the blush. Damn.

  • Sheree

I wonder what it would look like with the Orgasm gloss over top…

    • Isabella Muse

the gloss actually overpowers the shade since it is so sheer so just kind of looks like you applied Orgasm Lipgloss but nothing really under it 🙂

  • Jennifer

Dupe alert! I just realized that Revlon’s super lusterious lipstick in “Peach Parfait” is a pretty close dupe. It’s a better formula and has a better color payoff. Cheaper too!

  • Heidi

That’s a pretty color, but it’s too shimmery for my tastes. Though worn sheer, maybe. I think I’d still rather wear Dolce Vita, though. That’s one of my faves.

Thank you for this honest review. . . I am much more comfortable resisting this temptation now! Did you get the liquid blush too? I’m closer to jumping on that, but eager to hear how you like it.

  • Dora

Seems like a swing and a miss to me. Looks nice on you with the addition of the gloss, but I feel like this could have been SO MUCH better.

  • Amber G.

LOL- I should have read this earlier this am BEFORE ordering it from Sephora! It looks really pretty on you, though- hopefully it’ll work for me!

    • Isabella Muse

Let me know!? I’m very curious what you think! 😀

      • Amber

Well, I agree COMPLETELY with your review! I like it better with clear gloss as well. I did want to let everyone who may want to try it know that Sephora has a deluxe mini. It’s free with a $25 purchase using the code PINKPOUT. Maybe that’ll help some people on the fence about it!

        • Isabella Muse

Glad I’m not alone and awesome on the free version, so much better than buying it and hating it thanks Amber!

With the lipgloss, it looks like a very gorgeous and natural mlbb shade on you! For me, this is way too light. Golden shimmer or not, I think I’ll look zombiefied.

  • Claire

I just bought this and do you also feel like the lipstick is just very dry and stiff? I feel like it takes a lot of effort to get a nice wash of color. I like that it’s not as opaque as the Orgasm gloss, because I think it’d be overpowering in lipstick form, but you’re right you need a lot of coats to get any color!

    • Isabella Muse

It is a little stiff! It applies smooth enough but it feels dry going on and falls into my natural lip lines which results it in looking patchy. It isn’t exactly what I expected it to be sadly 🙁

  • Dinah

Personally I think it looks beautiful on you! But if revlon has a dupe I’ll pick that one up and save a little moolah 🙂

  • Rebecca

Pretty on you with the Nars blush!! Though disappointing to hear the lipstick is not as expected. But I’m on the fence- seeing how pretty it looks on you with the clear gloss, I’m tempted to get it! I’m wondering if Mac Nymphette lipglass might be a good pair with this?

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t think I own Nymphette now you have me curious to head to mac for a swatch ;-D and thank you!!!!!!!!!! 😀

      • Rebecca

I can get lost at Mac (lol)!
I saw the lipstick at Sephora today (I couldn’t resist getting it!) and you’re right it’s sheer and a bit stiff! I applied Nymphette on it and it made it more golden- the lipstick hardly showed through! Then I remembered I had Estee Lauder’s tawny lipliner and it added some “oomph” to the lipstick. A touch of gloss and it was nice!
Rumor has it there’s a matte version of orgasm in the future- but I have no idea!
Looking forward to reading your review on the liquid version of the Nars blush! Love your reviews!

        • Isabella Muse

Me too! It’s like walking into a time vortex….! And five hours of my life sucked away! I can’t believe I don’t own Nymphette I have to pick it up because it’s actually nicer from swatches I seen than the Orgasm Lipstick! Oh wow I’d be on board with the matte version, maybe it’ll be more pigmented! aw thanks Rebecca! Upcoming shortly promise!

  • Lily

I bought it as soon as it released because I love the blush and the lipgloss. I was so excited to get the Sephora box! But i too felt a let down by the lack of pigment. I have pale lips so it really doesn’t do much more than add a bit of sparkle with a sheer hint of melon. It’s… OK. I haven’t really reached for it since, but I am going to try it over some other colors to see how it looks. I know I won’t buy this one again. Sad sigh as well.

    • Isabella Muse

Aw sorry Lily! Same experience here! Try a little clear gloss, it helps but not by much!
