About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

Do you ever look at modern fashions and try to spot what is going to look hilariously dated in 15 years? On one hand I love this lavish unicorn summoning kit, and on the other I feel like the next generation is going to have a photo of this on their holo-pinboard, giggling over how twentyteens it is.

Okay, I’m way too old for this, but the former unicorn/rainbow/pink lover in me actually really likes this.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this may be too much! Individually, I like most of the pieces, but presented in this box, they kind of look like children’s play makeup!

I just realized I think makeup is serious. Maybe I’ll do a cafe press shirt. I’d much rather have WG or ‘hodo brushes than a unicorn set. I get that cosmetics are selling an image, but my makeup purchases will never remind me of my little pony. I get the nostalgia of Kitty, the Disney collabs, the anime of tokidoki, the lazy egg of Gudetama/Holika. But it makes me want to rush out and buy a Serge Lutens lipstick, or order online from a distant country, with extra shipping and duty! Didn’t do much cute as a youngster, and certainly won’t as an oldster. It’s too extravagant (and likely sold out) for a gift, for a person of modest means. Still, like the rainbow/mermaid/unicorn concept for others. My horn fell off years ago.

This is particularly funny since most of these products have already been clearanced out individually…

I guess I’m getting too old, but this whole kit together reminds me of something for children. I love unicorns, I love mermaids, etc., but I like them elegant and pretty, not cheap looking, like the packaging for this kit. Individually, the products were fine, but it’s just too much as a kit.

It’s weird, I mostly feel this way about brands like Too Faced and Tarte (and several indie brands) in general, but I don’t feel this way when it comes to makeup in Asia, like Paul & Joe or Shu Uemura’s Mario collaboration. I guess it’s because those are more nostalgic to me and more refined and subdued in terms of packaging and colors. I just can’t handle the explosion of unicorn and mermaid that we’ve had this past year.

You’re so not going to love TF! They are doing an entire Unicorn Collection that launches shortly. I can’t help but mentally roll my eyes!
