The unicorn makeup trend is fast and furious at the moment. Well, wait, actually, unicorn EVERYTHING is just on trend at the moment. I was upstate and a cafe in Rhinebeck was selling Unicorn Grilled Cheese sandwiches. I did not ask what this was about but proceeded to briskly walk away from that sign.

Love or hate the unicorn trend seems to be taking over makeup world at the moment. I’m sorta of hoping it’s a passing trend because god forbid it’s as lasting as the highlighting and contouring everything one. I think by June we’ll likely forget all about unicorns and finally move on to mermaids and metallics.

What unicorn makeup are you throwing your money at? Or have you thrown your money at? So far, I’ve only indulged in the Tarte Makeup Believe in Yourself Eyeshadow Palette and that’s about the extent of it.

Here’s some picks you’ll need to embrace all things unicorn.

Becca’s Prismatic Amethyst is gorgeous and totally worth it IMHO. I also bought Tarte’s highlighter and brush set when that first came out.

    • Isabella Muse

I have it too but would you believe I never used it? I just look at it lovingly ;-D

  • Sarah

I really detest this unicorn trend, but admittedly I did throw money at the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself palette and I use it all the time! So that was a good choice. 🙂

Also I really love that gif, Silicon Valley is one of my favorite shows right now and that episode was great.

    • Isabella Muse

likewise and likewise 😀 I got that palette but not really into the unicorn thing but still loved the palette 😀 haha, I love it too! Bachman is my spirit animal! 😀

  • Jen R

I have several of these items already *gulp*! But pretty much any sort of holographic highlighter is irresistible to me these days. And I hadn’t seen those Nails Inc polishes before, but pretty sure they have to come home with me now!

    • Isabella Muse

All this holographic makeup is making my head spin ;D

  • Ruth

I bought the Becca highlighter- it’s so stunning & had to be mine! I bought & returned Stila’s sunset cove sparkly eye shadow- that holo pink was not a good look for this older chick.

  • kjh

Zero, so far. But I do like offbeat, so abh aurora is likely to make it home. Failed to get the wnw spring ones, but know they are still available on wnw website. After my highlightastrophy with banc au sable the other day, better be careful!

Hi Muse! I’ve only bought the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself eyeshadow palette. $40 was kind of steep for me, but it was worth it because I use it almost everyday.

I hadn’t seen those nail polishes before. The purple metallic one is really unique and I don’t have a color like that in my collection. I may have to buy it even if my poor wallet will hate me later lol.

    • Isabella Muse

I love that one too Stephanie 😀 Great pick! oh they released them about two weeks ago! They are cute but I so am not a nail girl so I didn’t pick them up no matter how tempting 😀

  • Silvia

I ordered most of WetnWild items that could not find on my store hunts and live the highliters. God knows I don’t need one more! I’m still interested in the Kat D Von holographic ones and those nail lacquers are next. Love everything here bring in the unicorns and all mermaids! Love! Love! Love all these fun/magical things! I want to shine like gush scales! Lol!

  • Danielle

I’m still trying to process the idea of a unicorn grilled cheese sandwich … :shudders:

  • Lisa I

I just bought Covergirl Katy perry eyeliner in purrmaid siren, a metallic green. Love it. I thought, why do I have to wear brown eyeliner because I’m 52? Boring. It’s a fun pop of color, a total cheap thrill.

  • emeris

I probably won’t be purchasing anything at the moment, but I had to comment because the .gif you included at the beginning made me laugh so much :). Hope you have a great evening !!

  • Kath

I jumped on this trend harder than most from the past few years and have way more of these items than I’d like to admit. In my defense I think the purple highlight suits my face and after a couple years of incredibly heavy full faces, I like the ethereal look.
Of the ones here, I think my favorite is the Tarte palette (words I never thought I’d say last year). The formula is smooth and make my eyes seem bright and happy. I even like the highlighter in it!
Thanks for the post though–now I need to get the nail polish duo somehow and my unicorn collection will… be… complete!!

  • Nat

I just got back into doing my nails, so I’m on board with all these trends (unicorn, mermaid, chrome, dual chrome). There’s something magical when you’re rubbing that holo powder into your nail, and it turns into a gorgeous, rainbow mirror! 😀

Consequentially, I’ve been watching tons of Simplynailogical videos, heehee!

  • Mo

I have the KVD alchemist and it’s amazing. I also like those tweezers!! And that nail polish is cool but too expensive for me. I just stick to sally hansen and WnW polishes.

  • Jill

I’ve had the Makeup Revolution Salvation Palette in Unicorns Unite for years and love it. It’s more jewel toned magic. I currently have the Make Believe in Yourself palette because as much as I was disappointed in the Painter’s Box at Christmas, I couldn’t resist those colors and my sister had her Rouge coupon and owed me money, so I didn’t pay for all of it. I really like it…

  • Tabitha

Super into the unicorn trend but doing it big girl style- I don’t have a rainbow striped highlighter yet so I’m telling myself I’m not a trend follower I just like sparkly purple and blue things. I have 5 of the Stila Shades & 2 of the mermaid shades, Into the Blue and Sea Siren, I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW VERSATILE AND AMAZING THESE ARE. I have low confidence in getting a grand slam Milk product lately- the blur stick I personally didn’t like & have seen low reviews on other products since then. I really flippin want the Alchemist palette, someday I’ll bite. Becca is ah-mazing. I have the Rose Quartz but didn’t get the amethyst BECAUSE….. I found the lilac Wet & Wild highlighter at CVS & hid it behind the $35 light up acne face masks & went back 3 days later & fished it out & bought it with an oddly satisfying feeling of victory. Momma didnt raise no fool!
