Remember Tony & Tina, Lola, and Vincent Longo? Which Makeup Brands Do You Miss?

I was typing up a post very early this morning at stupid o’clock about the uber awesome Vincent Longo sale (75% Off Shut the Hell Up and Take my Money!) and I started thinking about makeup brands I miss. There are so many long gone but not quite forgotten brands.

Some of these brands are still alive and kicking and some just disappears off the face of the planet.

Do you have any brands or lines that you miss?

It’s not gone but I miss having Lorac at Sephora. I know, it’s at Ulta and Kohl’s but I tend to shop more at Sephora plus Sephora is kind of everywhere where as Ulta isn’t and I don’t really shop at Kohl’s.

I really miss having Lola at Sephora as well. Lola was such a cute brand! Remember the gorgeous sparkle bomb highlighters? Lola isn’t gone and Vincent Longo isn’t but I do also, miss having them at Sephora.

I really miss Tony & Tina. They had the most amazing sparkle eyeliners that were loaded with glitter. Creamy, sparkly, they were absolutely brilliant. I remember hauling every single shade and proceeding to get back ups when they went on sale at Sephora.

I was misting myself with Jessica Simpson’s Fancy a few days ago (I have such a love/hate relationship with that fragrance) and I nearly sobbed thinking about her Desserts Collection. God….! That was such a great range of fragrance and bath & body goodies. Sadly, the Dessert Collection was plagued by lawsuits one of which was by Mara Fox, owner of one of my favorite go to for indie fragrances, Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie. That could be why it was only around a year or so.

And of course, like many of you, I miss L’Oreal HIP. L’Oreal has evolved a lot and many of the daring shades that were promient from their HIP line are being slowly incorporated into their newer offerings but HIP was like the MAC of the drugstore world.

Ahh yes and Naturistics because for whatever reason I was addicted to their lipglosses not to mention those ads made me want to be just like Alexis Bledel. Mind you, this was pre-Gilmore Girls days!

Which makeup brands do you miss most?

Do share them!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. HiP was my jammy-jam! I was so bummed when they discontinued that line!

  • Jen R

There are so many I can’t think of right now, but I’ll start with OG Hard Candy from the late 90s/early 00s. I still have a ton of things from them that I should probably throw away but just can’t.

Haven’t tried anything from their current iteration just because I never get to WalMart.

    • Isabella Muse

I have stuff from Hard Candy back in the day too when it was at Sephora 😀 The Walmart stuff is utterly different!

      • Stephanie

I loved Hard Candy when it was at Sephora! If I remember correctly, the two lip products I bought from that brand were my first purchases from Sephora. Too bad they don’t sell that brand there anymore.

    • Erin

I am also insanely guilty of hoarding old school 90s/00s Urban Decay, MAC and Hard Candy myself. I know I should throw it all away, but I just can’t!

  • Brenda Lifsey

I miss Tony and Tina. I have a glitter pot in the color Flesh that I love, I use mostly for eye shadow. I purchased it from Nordstrom. I have a L’Oréal HIP concenentreated eye shadow duo in Saucy-818. Are these brands still available?

    • Isabella Muse

Tony and Tina is sadly gone 🙁 and L’Oreal HIP is as well! Sad sigh!

      • Carol Ann

Tony and Tina are still around. They have a website, Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram.

  • Kimkats

I miss VL’s old original shadows.. the colors were *so* unique! I would give my right arm to have Baby Love and Sweet Dreams shadows again….. Sigh.. Wish I could find those somewhere in the universe… 🙂 Isn’t it funny how some brands are all the rage, then they just sputter and die out… I wonder why that is…

And I remember T&T too – they *did* have awesome eyeliners. SUCH fun colors!

    • Isabella Muse

I miss VS’s makeup line completely. I used to love all the LE stuf! So sad it disappeared 🙁

  • Cindy

Paula Dorf Perfect Illusion!! THE holy-grail lip primer!! The only thing that comes close now is Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone, and that’s after wasting $$ on a crap ton of bad ones.

  • Danielle

Tony & Tina! They made the best blush and bronzer! Yes- their glittery eyeliner was the glittery-ist out there! Nothing compared! Caboodles also used to make cosmetics-my sister had a caboodle and you could snap on/snap off little makeup like eyeshadow, blush, etc. I also had Tinkerbell makeup- they had this awful perfume, but I was 5 and thought it was the bomb! They also had this peel off nail polish and I remember peeling it off in the bathtub and my mom having a fit. I also miss old school Hard Candy- they used to sell it in department stores!

    • Isabella Muse

oh my gosh caboodles makeup haha that brings back memories ;-D

    • Molly

Oh my gosh, that Tinkerbell perfume was soooo strong!!!!

    • Erin

That nail polish was my FAVORITE. THING. EVER. when I was little! I was obsessed with the packaging and that color of pink just SPOKE to me! Same goes for the lipstick. I had that, and the perfume too, of course.

  • KimMWC03

Yes, the Jessica Simpson Dessert collection was awesome. I can’t believe I forgot about that!

Also, L’Oreal HIP was great. They should bring that back. I also had a bunch of Cutex nail polishes back in the day and I heard they are making a comeback but I haven’t seen the new ones yet.

  • Sarah

I Googled Tony & Tina out of curiosity because I don’t remember that brand (I pretty much wore drugstore until 2007, didn’t get into HE makeup until I was in my twenties) and it looks like they’re back. If you look for Tony & Tina Vibrational Remedies it looks like they’re carrying a ton of the stuff you guys are talking about.

In 2013 Sephora posted a Beauty Talk article about how they’re back, but online only. The website looks like it’s still up and running, so who knows? Maybe you can buy their products again!

    • Isabella Muse

OMG ha! You’re right Sarah they do have some makeup! Not everything but some stuff! Who knew!? Thanks for that lol!

  • Victoria

I think Jane is still around but I miss late 90s Jane. The Colorstix were my faves. I had a frosty light brown eye one and a matte mauve lip one. Nudestix are pretty similar and actually wear a lot longer, but they just don’t have the nostalgia factor! Also, I loved their Megabites lipstick that each had a different scent/flavor.

  • myla

I miss Vincent Longo too! I also will always have a soft spot for Victoria Jackson. I bought the dang kit (pardon…I sweet talked my dad into getting it for me) from the infomercial when I was a pre-teen and loved it to pieces. This was wayyyyyyyyyyy back when the kit came with a VHS instructional cassette & the shiny black compacts with the gold lettering. It was magical – and actually did teach me how to put makeup on and still look like a teenager.

  • Lynn

I miss the Tarina Tarantino line from about 9-ish years ago at Sephora. There was a specific lipgloss shade that I loved and haven’t been able to find anything similar since. Her website still sells beauty products, but my beloved electric fuschia-raspberry lipgloss is long gone.

  • kjh

T&T was a ton of fun. Also liked Fresh, when they did e/s and blush. Never touch their current line. Miss garden Botanika…huge selection of blush…now they have a couple of fragrance options, that’s all. Prescriptive under EL wasn’t bad, esp. for foundation matches. Not the same now. Neither is Borghese, which is also resurrected. MB in the 90s had the best blockbusters ever! Also miss UII under Kevyn, though I hold him personally responsible for the neverending parade of warm neutrals. Nil nisi whatever….Not very into KA as a brand, but love all things bloodroses. Which reminds me of Biba…Blue Roses pot gloss. Signature of the era. Don’t really miss my paper dress with matching hat, though, lol.

  • eb

Some of the first makeup items that I bought online, I think from QVC, were from Prescriptives. That was like 10 years ago. I’m not sure if they’re still around but I still use their brushes to this day.

  • M

Old school Cargo. Back when it was at Sephora. Poppy, too!

I also miss Stila’s heydey. Remember the hype for the originsl Stila lookbooks? Their Crème Bouquet lookbook was the first palette I ever bought

  • Abby

When my sister was in 7th grades he got contacts and my mom took her to tony and Tina and Nordstrom. She bought a bunch of makeup that she never ended up using. I remember I got a lip gloss pen called aroura borealis. It was beautiful and I was so jealous. By the time I got contacts as a junior in 2008 t&t was gone. I’m still bummed I never got to get my full face done at that counter, I had to settle for Clinique.

    • Isabella Muse

Awww! from Tony and Tina to Clinique is a big jump! You must have been mega disappointed!

  • LeeLee B

Remember Seeing Devitt? I loved her eye intensifier pencils (chubby eyeliner). The colors were so beautiful, and they had good lasting power. So sad when they took her stuff out of Ulta!

    • Isabella Muse

I remember Sue Devitt 😀 still have one of her palettes!!!!!!!!

  • Laura

First just wanna say I love your blogs! Thank you for keeping us up on everything, and giving a heads up on the sales as I just dropped almost as much as you did at VL. Now I can’t wait to get it! I hadn’t tried the lip stain and happened to find a review on it at makeupalley. I noticed one of the reviews was from ’09 and the person was saying they bought it during the 75% off sale back then. So hopefully the line will still be around and like you said maybe just clearing stock for new stuff. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Laura! xoxoxo! My pleasure! Yay! Enjoy your haul 😀 Hopefully not as it is one of my very favorite cheek stains, I’d be sad if it disappeared for good!!!!!!

  • Ranjani

I purchased the Vincent Longo pot eyeliner (delis brown )from Cult Beauty and got it in mail yesterday . Hope it has good staying power in the waterline. Have you tried it?

    • Isabella Muse

I have, great formula, very creamy! Haven’t tried it on my waterline though! Long lasting on my upper lash line, I have drier eyes though keep that in mind 🙂

  • Bailey

I really miss Tarina Tarantino and Prescriptives. Their False Lashes mascara was my fav back in the day.

    • Christina

You can still buy the mascara on the Prescriptives website! =)

  • Jessy

I really miss Tony & Tina and L’Oreal HIP. These two were my favorites before. Actually not just me but also my best friend! 😀 Just got sad when they stop it!

  • Caroline

I miss the old Stila line, when they sold my favourite lipstick, Natalie. Never been able to find a good dupe since.

  • Gabriela

Not make up but I miss sunsilk so bad!
Their frizzy hair formula was my HOLY GRAIL for my hair. It’s been +10 yrs since that went of the market and i still haven’t found a replacement.

    • FrugalCat

I’m not sure if it’s the same product, but there is a Sunsilk line of haircare in a foreign market overseas.

      • Gabriela

Last time i went on a google hunt for it I found out it was available in India but couldn’t find a website that delivered to Europe. It shows up on Amazon searched but never in stock.

I saw some one eBay but at +$40 …and to that i have to add shipping and import fees. So $60 for a 6$ product seems a bit much.

        • Iris

If there are some in your area, try Asian supermarkets or shops. I’m in Canada and our local Asian import shops have Sunsilk. All the best.

  • Christina

Yeah, when I was first checking out and it was going to cost almost $17 to ship, I said “no way”. Then I just added more items to my card until I was over the free shipping threshold!

    • Isabella Muse

I guess I wasn’t hit by it because I had $58 dollars in my cart when I checked out!

  • Silvia

I hauled about 6 of those L’Oréal Hit eyeshadows but some of the colors like the dark browns are way too warm on this ghost I’m going to bring them to the front of my stash and use them again mixing them with something lighter maybe peach? They are awesome! I still see Cabbodles cases at Target brings back teenage memories. I had one in purple.

  • FrugalCat

Loved the Naturistics lip glosses too. L’Oreal’s HiP line was fantastic- I was super upset when they discontinued it.

Does anyone remember a hypoallergenic drugstore line from the late 80’s/early 90’s, may have been called Clarion?

I remember Cutex nail polish too. I would paint my nails after the kids went to sleep when I was babysitting.

    • ggggg

I think I still have a Clarion eyeshadow!
It was so nice I just couldn’t throw it out and is stashed away somewhere deep in the back of my closet.

  • varya

Prescriptives foundation. Longo and DVF from a million years ago. I had a palette (my first ever) that included 3 blushes,4 eyeshadows and 3 lipsticks. I hit pan on every shade & even finished at least three. (granted it took me at least ten years to accomplish that feat………don’t judge. Fun fact: that makeup was created by Sylvie Chantecaille.

  • Brenda

Tony and Tina, when they were discontinued I went on Ebay and bought every eyeliner I could find. I still have some that I haven’t opened yet, don’t know if they’ll be any good now? Elekta and Corrada makeup sold up here in The Bay in Canada, loved their line, I used it exclusively in my early twenties, the first high end makeup I got in to.

  • Iris

I remember so many from my tweens. M Cosmetics, Revlon Streetwear, Malibu Musk, Caboodles, Bottled Emotion perfumes.

I recall Toni and Tina from much later and Tokidoki makeup more recently. I got a face powder from the former a bit before they disappeared and wish I’d tried the latter.

    • Erin

Yes YES YES on the Streetwear! That stuff made me feel so ~*~*~edgy~*~*~

  • Isa

Tarina Tarantino because I never got to try any and it’s likely that I never will!

Also Nina Ricci (the 90s/00s version). They had such unique packaging!

Covergirl! It’s not gone, but it’s gone from my market. I can’t believe it! It’s a drugstore cornerstone brand!

  • Andrea Kimberlin

Bonne Bell Lip Burst was like my favorite lip gloss back in the day. It smelled sooooo good! I also miss this Revlon highlighter powder, I think it’s called Skinlights. Luckily I still have a bunch of it so I use it sparingly so I don’t run out of it. Add Jane cosmetics to the list too….

  • Diane

I LOVED Jessica Simpson’s Dessert line..and also old school tarte. The brand message, the packaging, the whole vibe was just so different. Think like 2013 and earlier? The products are still great I am just not crazy about their marketing anymore.

    • Isabella Muse

Tarte def changed, not sure it is for the better 🙁 I loved Jessica’s Dessert line so so sad it is gone!

  • McRachel

I miss Bourjois being at Sephora. I also miss Lola, and I have shopped from Vincent Longo although I miss the convenience of Sephora. And the Sally Hansen lip glosses.

  • Janell White

I loved HIP. I had a yellow gold/purple duo. I wore the purple on the inner half of my lid and the yellow on the outer. It was the only makeup look I ever did til I was like 20

  • Erin

Where do I even begin my list!

I miss Skinmarket (the chubby eye sticks, mostly), Tony and Tina, old school UD and Hard Candy (I am guilty of still hoarding some of my old stuff – it’s so good I can’t part with it!), the original formulations of Lip Smackers and Jane eyeshadows (the shade Bone was a staple of mine throughout the late 90s/early 00s). There are so many other things that I can’t think of right now, so I will def. add to this post when I do.

Also, can we talk about food that doesn’t exist anymore? There was a cereal in the 90s called Hidden Treasures that was DELICIOUS.

    • Isabella Muse

haha excellent idea! Planters Cheez Balls, man those were good!

  • Dina

I wish just thinking about the Tony and Tina eye liners and googled it and your article came up!! Your description of their glittery eye liners is so true!! They were gorgeous. I especially remember their turquoise colored one and black with silver

    • Isabella Muse

Sigh! I remember that one too Dina! I truly do miss those. They were incredible ;-D Such a shame they are gone!

  • Shelley

I loved Tony and Tina herbal glitter eye pencils, was wondering if anyone ever found something similar… I miss those

  • Damian Miles

Oh my GOD! You said it sister! I endlessly hunt down that WONDERFUL Tony & Tina Velvet Goldmine glitter eyeliner pencil. I could cry an ocean that they’re gone! The best!! Made with tons if mica. I wish someone would buy out their formula and remanufacture it. Please let me know if the black glitter pencil resurfaces from some old stockpile. I LOVE YOU for talking about it. Thanks.

    • Isabella Muse

YES! Gosh I do so miss them! They were the best eyeliners ever! Oh girl, I will let you know if they revive themselves from the dead at some point ;-D Haha! I’m happy to find a fellow fan!
