Revlon Ultra HD Matte Metallic Lipcolor ($9.99) is a new take on Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor but now with a metallic matte finish. I know, I know! The matte metallic thing is confusing as hell as we experienced recently with the Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipsticks that launched.

I’m not a metallic fan by any means as the finish tends to look frosty on both my lips and eyes but since Ultra UD Gel Lipcolor worked out great for me I was more than willing to try the Ultra HD Matte Metallic Collection.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Metallic Lipcolor are available in eight permanent shades that supposedly have a moisturizing, velvety texture with a high def metallic matte finish. These come in the same flat rounded tube which is a little wider and chubbier than Hourglass’s Extreme Sheen High Shine Lipgloss. Each one is 0.2 oz in size and around $7.99 to $9.99 per shade depending where you purchase them. They also have the same strong flavor and fragrance as the original which is a sweetish cherry cough syrup type flavor.

The original formula was a little misleading as most who purchased the product expected a matte finish but what they got was a hybrid formula that was part gloss, part liquid lipstick that had more of a shiny finish and lipgloss texture than a matte liquid lip color. I liked them a lot because I’m not really into the entire long-wearing lipstick formula and the gel-like texture wore for a nice five hour period but weren’t sealed on my lips for the entire day and I was just fine with that. The same can be said of the new formula as it isn’t one that will lock onto lips and wear all day.

The texture feels like a silicone primer of sorts. I swear I felt like I was applying a primer all over my lips as these have that silky velvety feel of a silicone facial primer. The finish is quite frosty versus metallic and the some of the lighter shades are quite sheer.

Interestingly enough these have the same exact application issues that the Maybelline Matte Metallic Lipsticks had. They apply quite patchy and cling to drier areas on lips. Proper prepping is key to get the smoothest finish. They also have a tendency to fall into natural lip lines given them a less than smooth appearance as well aging lips and making them look dry. The formula somehow separates and creases during the wear as well. I didn’t get a long wear out of them and by the first hour I was ready to wipe them off since they looked like I had them on for hours with a worn, faded appearance.

If you add a little clear gloss on top of them they instantly becoming a little more wearable but they still don’t have the metallic sheen or finish that you might be looking for nor the matte one for that matte.

Sadly, Revlon Ultra HD Matte Metallic Lipcolor was a bust for me. This formula just doesn’t quite deliver and made my lips look drier and older than they actually are.

Meh!

Sorry, Revlon! I’m passing out gold starts for the original formula but this new matte metallic one gets a thumbs down.

I also really like the formula of these — well, of the originals — like you, because they’re not a “true” liquid lip or even all that matte. Therefore, comfortable and flattering. But I super dislike the fragrance and am not a fan of metallics anyway so will be skipping these. Thanks for reviewing!

My pleasure! They really do have a very strong scent! And I like them for all of the same exact reasons 😀

I bought 2 of these a few weeks back, was very surprised how much I like them because I usually only wear cream matte lipstick.

I’m glad you liked! Going to try them over matte lipsticks see how they look!

Pretty, it I still think Lipstick Queen has the best metallics!

I don’t get matte metallic either..arent they opposites? I thought matte meant flat finish, no shine and metallic is extra shiny, metal-like finish??

  • Lori

I have like 5 of them lol and I’ve had good luck with them actually.

But I thought they look great on you! So sad they didn’t work out.
