J. Cat H20 Fresh Dewy Hydrating Face Primer ($7.99) is swooping to the rescue to prep, prime, and hydrate your dry skin so your foundation will look smooth, even, and won’t cling to those drier patches on your face.

One of my pet peeves is have a conversation with someone and noticing they have makeup on because it’s cakey and clinging to drier areas. Girl, PREP! Prep, prep, prep until you can’t prep no more and your fingers bleed. I know, I get it, I have drier skin and patchier areas around my face but you’d never know it because I prep until I can’t preps no more. Typically after I apply my foundation and blush I switch from my vanity mirror to my Simplehuman Mirror to make sure that nothing is clinging or caking up on my face. I want the smoothest, softest, most even application on my skin that looks natural and makeup-less.

That’s where a good hydrating moisturizer and facial primer comes into play.

J. Cat H20 Fresh Dewy Hydrating Face Primer has you covered in the facial primer department and the budget friendly one too at under $8 bucks.

J. Cat H20 Fresh Dewy Hydrating Face Primer quite reminds me of NYX Makeup Hydra Touch Primer in packaging style but the formulas are considerably different. J. Cat’s version is 1.05 oz in size and comes in a squeeze tube for easy application. Keep in mind NYX’s version is $14 bucks and the same size.

This contains some fairly good hydrating ingredients in a water-based formula such as glycerine and cyclopentasiloxane. Keep in mind cyclopentasiloxane is a silicone so, if you’re avoiding silicones this might not be a good pick for you. It also contains niacinamide.

The formula is quite a thicker gel texture that has a silky texture but isn’t your traditional silicone primer as once you apply it the texture breaks down into a thin, watery consistency which absorbs super quickly into skin. It leave skin quite nicely hydrated for makeup and works very well under matte foundations. Yes, although dry I am guilty of owning a matte foundation or two. As creamy and lovely as I find Tarte’s Clay Stick Foundation I still need a good hydrating base under it and this works a treat. It helps the foundation to apply and blend easier not to mention it gives the finish a smooth, even appearance.

I wouldn’t say it made foundation last any longer but it will make application a lot easier on drier skin. The formula isn’t greasy nor shiny and didn’t add unnecessary oil to skin so, it should work for many skin types. But just don’t expect it to do any favors in preventing your foundation from fading or wearing longer if you have oily skin or even drier skin.

If moisture is your need this J. Cat H20 Fresh Dewy Hydrating Face Primer helps create a nice moist base for your foundation.

I thought J Cat was an American brand but it has Korean writing on the packaging? Interesting.

made in South Korea. Doesn’t make it Korean 🙂 lots of brands are made in other countries!

Oh no I mean it actually says “Hydrating base primer” written in Korean language underneath the English on the front of the tube!

I know you said the formula is different from the Nyx Hydrating Primer…I’m curious about how it does, I love the Nyx primer but this is much cheaper!

I’ll have to try this. I’ve been using the Clinique Moisture Surge Concentrate under my makeup which works really well, but I’d like something cheaper for everyday use.
