What’s New In the Matte Makeup World? Find Out!

What’s new in the matte makeup world? A lot! Even though metallics seem to be coming at us full force their are a lot of interesting matte options popping up at the moment in the makeup world like the awesome NYX Lid Lingerie Matte Eye Tint Eyeshadow (Do try it!).

I know, I know you’re thinking mattes are terribly boring and you love your shimmer. I do too but mattes can be quite nice especially when you’re going for minimal yet elegant.

Here’s some new matte makeup options that might be worth exploring!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I LOVE the Cover FX mattifying setting spray. Alcohol free and works GREAT!

I haven’t tried it yet. I was going to haul it because my skin is a bit shiny in the Summer but the weather has been so crummy I didn’t have a need for it!

  • Eraser

Ughh… I’m so tired of matte finishes, especially with lip products. I’m at an age where matte lips look absolutely awful and a matte face is also getting into perilous territory. Oddly enough, matte eyeshadow ls great – a bit of frost or shimmer is okay but anything beyond that emphasizes every wrinkle.

    • Susan

Amen. I’m older too, and matte lips make me look like a zombie and a matte face makes me look dried up. Yet I love matte eyeshadow because too sparkly looks weird!

Muse, I’m dying here for your review of the Nyx Lid Lingerie Matte Tint. I think I see about 4-5 of them I want, and I so hope they are a good substitute for the liquid matte eyeshadows from Butter London and Bare Minerals. Those are great but pricey (and e.l.f. has some that are cheap but crappy).

Don’t wait for my review, they are on sale now for a BOGO at Ulta! Get them 😀 they are fab hehe! I love them! I’m testing out now and I’m quite happy with them. They are super pigmented, easy to blend, and they look amazingggggggggggggggg on my lids 😀

Enabler. Enabler Face. OK, which are the best colors? I’m especially drawn by the olive and the taupe-lilac(?).

I haven’t tried all the ones I got yet but so far I tested A-Line and Bang Bang and love ’em!

S.t. You have to go for the name. I had Poppy King’s (now Lipstick Queen) original 7 deadly sins. How can I forego Cliquey Snarky? Lots of these look good. Maybe the Stila.

  • Lorraine. E.R

The new NYX stuff looks good as does the clinique. I’m cursed with oily skin so ofc I appreciate matte things.

  • Carol

I agree with Susan and Eraser. And you guys can pelt me with rocks and garbage if you want, but I am so sick of everything being matte that I could scream! When I read the title of this post my first thought was, Really? More new matte products?!? As if we need more? Everything is matte! I’m sick of it. I think I’m just old and jaded so just ignore me but where the hell is some shimmer or shine? And why is that so bad? Why can’t we live in a world where matte and shimmer can coexist? Matte is trying to kill shimmer and I am not on board with that. I will be 95 years old wearing my shimmer and not giving it a second thought. Sorry, had to get that out of my system. Well, now I feel better…

    • Isabella Muse

haha no one is going to toss any rocks at ya 😀 ITA! I’m not much of a matte girl either. Hell matte isn’t nearly as bad as highlighter, that has to die SOON please!

    • kjh

So right, girl. Muse always notes the difference between shimmery and frosty. I think that a tad of shimmer over a matte/satin look can make all the difference. That diffracts the light and lessens the look of texture. A powdery matte just accentuates it. You look like you should borrow Miss Havisham’s wedding dress. When I’m 95 (not that i’ll make it) I’ll be on my second Zoeva En Taupe, with a greige lipstick, and oldest Nyx Taupe with abh spectra on top. And have to keep my makeup under lock and key in the nursing home to avoid theft!

  • yelena

eeek! I saw the new nyx lid lingerie and I cannot wait to get my hands on them!

of course I want to see your review first tho 😉

Matte >highlighter for sure. But I’m pushing 60 and glittery eyeshadow doesn’t cut it anymore for this old gal. Seems like it just calls attention to my aging eye area and makes me look like an old worn out stripper trying to hang on to her youth. 🙁

(SIDE NOTE:I do LOVE the Makeup Revolution eyeshadow pallets that are matte -if you haven’t tried that brand, I really like their prices. Their setting spray is great too. )
