This is What I Look Like With and Without Eyeshadow

I have to admit I prefer wearing eyeshadow and eye makeup versus not wearing anything at all. I just feel like I look more grown up when I have eye makeup on! I also feel more confident and I think it accentuates my eyes quite nicely.

Do you prefer your eyes with or without eye makeup?

Here’s what I look like with and without eyeshadow!

My best friend is incredibly fond of saying, “There’s my girl!” whenever I remove my eye makeup. Ha ha ha…! I don’t LOOK that different without it but I know that it makes me feel good and I think it makes my eyes look good too when I am wearing it. I like makeup, I like to play with makeup, I feel better, more confident when I am wearing it. It’s rare I go completely nude. Well, lately I’ve loosened the collar so to speak as when the weekend comes a little moisturizer, a lot of SPF, some cheek stain, and a little dab of concealer under my eyes is about the extend of my look.

With Eyeshadow

Without Eyeshadow

But still I love me a good eye look that makes my brown eyes pop!

How do you look with and without eyeshadow?

Are you comfortable with a completely nude eye?

Or do you prefer heading out with the works in place? Eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, etc….

I look very different without eye make up. I work out sans make up in the early a.m. and I don’t think anyone there would recognize me made up and dressed up outside of the gym. I kinda like being able to transform like that. Mind you, I don’t wear a ton of it so anyone would know it’s still me, just cleaned up. My boyfriend tells me I look better with make up which was kind of hurtful at first, but I guess that’s the point of wearing it.

    • Isabella Muse

My boyfriend always tells me that but I don’t believe him! I imagine I make small children cry if I don’t have it on lol! But I agree I like the power of the transformation. It’s amazing what a little concealer can do and just curling your lashes! Suddenly, I look more awake and alive 😀

  • Christina D.

P.S. You look great either way so depending on what you’re doing and how you’re feeling, it’s a win-win!

  • Christina D.

Allow me to clarify: my BF says I look better WITH makeup. He would never tell me I look better without it, although he grudgingly admits I don’t need a lot. Yes, he’s a sweet talker (not).

    • Isabella Muse

LOL oh I read that as WITHOUT makeup! Haha! Hey, I like your boyfriend! Wanna swap!? I wanna hear I look good with makeup! 😀

    • Agona

I would’ve been so mad at him!!

My BF actually recently told me that he can’t tell the difference between me having foundation on or off–says my complexion looks flawless either way. He says the only thing he notices WITH makeup is my eyes (I always wear a winged liquid liner).

      • Isabella Muse

Not me! I’m always tired of hearing “you look better without makeup” I wanna hear “you look great with it!” haha!

  • Michelle

I look the same with or without eye shadow. My eyes (and face for that matter) eat makeup. I can use every primer under the sun and nothing lasts on my face. Eye shadow is the worst of them. No matter how much I try to differentiate a look, within a few minutes everything ends up looking the same (muddied together and worn off within an hour or so). I don’t try to much anymore as it is just a waste of time. 🙁

      • Michelle

Thanks Agona, It never does!! I think I am just a bit too greasy and oily for any to really do anything. Plus I am 39 so my skins texture and age really effect how makeup looks. I look better with minimal makeup (less to run down my face and settle into lines).

    • Jane

My face eats makeup, too! Not quite so fast, but I certainly have given up using some of the stuff (and some of it I keep using out of habit/sheer stubbornness).

  • Jay

I look much, much better with eye makeup on lol. It is absolutely incredible what a little liner and mascara does! I’m totally comfortable without it (I already know that I’m no beauty queen haha) but when I clean myself up, I love looking at myself in the mirror. Even if the difference is subtle, it’s noticeable. Unfortunately I’m always so damn late for work that I avoid mirrors 🙂

I prefer myself with eye shadow but I can go without shadow on a regular day with no worries. My husband hates when I wear eye shadow though. He said blue shadows remind him of his mom.

  • Agona

I prefer my eyes with makeup. In fact, if I’m having a good skin day and I’m traveling/flying, I’ll do my eyes (primer, shadow, winged liquid liner, and mascara) but skip foundation (so I can slap on a sheet mask during my flight or something) with maybe some gloss or tinted lip balm too. I have Asian eyes and I feel like without shadow and winged liner, my eyes look too small.

  • Christina

I think you look great either way! You don’t wear a ton of makeup, so you still look like you.
I like to wear really complex eye looks on weekends or when I have a little extra time in the mornings, but most days I’m without any eye makeup–no mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, nada!
I usually just wear concealer, a little brightener under my eyes, and blush to work. I get nice compliments when I do wear more makeup, but mostly from women. My husband and all my guy friends like me better with a fresh face. LOL! I’ve been in to the Korean and Japanese aesthetics lately because it just looks so fresh and youthful!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks girl! 😀 I think it’s totally a dude thing that they like a nude face! 😀

  • TropicalChrome

I’m comfortable with a completely nude eye….a completely nude face, actually. (Moisturizer doesn’t count, since where I live, it’s so dry that it’s not makeup, it’s self-defense.). I’m also just as comfortable with “the works”. Which I do depends on what I’m doing that day, what I feel like, if I have some new product I want to play around with.

Generally, I prefer my eyes with full makeup, or at least liner and mascara. I still have a lot of eyelashes and they’re plenty long, but sadly, they’re no longer highly pigmented. So my eyes often get lost behind my glasses, especially since I’m wearing a darker frame these days (silly trends and all, but I like them!).

  • Heidi

You look great both ways. Certain eyeshadows make your eyes pop, but you have those big fluffy lashes, so you can go either way and look great. I feel like I at least need mascara to get through the day. I do prefer some form of eyeshadow or liner. It just feels right. My husband is smart enough never to say that I look better with or without, though he does seem to like if I wear varying shimmering grays for some reason.

    • Isabella Muse

haha I laughed at fluffy lashes! SOMETIMES they are fluffy most days they are kind of droopy 😀

  • Tippy6

Muse, you’ve got it in spades either way because your eyes are truly remarkable. They are so deep and dark they almost appear black, your eyelashes are perfect and your brows are in trine. You have a beautiful and charming face but your eyes are the true focal point of your face. You really have a gift because you have the type of eyes that can either sparkle with a hint of mischief or shoot death rays when necessary. That’s a pretty good combination plate, no?

    • Isabella Muse

Tippy, you are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too kind! Thanks you made my day 😀 <3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dee

I had to look at both pics several times because your eyes look pretty in both pics!
I think I look better with eye shadow on.

  • Carrie

I am a natural blonde and without eyebrow pencil or mascara I look like I have no brows or eyelashes! (I actually have really long lashes naturally, just so light you can’t really see them!) So when I add make-up it’s a HUGE difference to my face. I also have deep set-eyes so it always feels like a waste to use more than one shadow because they just seem to disappear, so I usually just swipe a wash of color over my lid. My favorite pallet is the first Tarte Rainforest of the Sea pallet. I just use my finger to swipe a color over my lid and then use a bit of highlighter under my brow. Funny thing is when I don’t use shadow it doesn’t seem to make that big of a difference so I’m good either way! lol

  • Samantha

It’s taken me several years to be comfortable in my own skin to not wear makeup. Lately i haven’t been feeling well so my appearance takes the back burner. Luckily i have a man who reminds me he loves me either way. I think as a female we shouldn’t depend on it to make us feel better, although sometimes it does.

  • Missy

You’re gorgeous both ways! 😀 Your eyes are sooo beautiful!!

I can spend an hour getting ready and my husband will not even be able to notice anything different :::sigh::: LOL

  • Yen

Can I have a pair of fake lashes modeled after your own lashes? Please and thank you haha. You look great both ways. Two different moods: fresh and glowy or eyeshadow and lined for and edge.

I feel like it’s a guy thing. My boyfriend prefers zero makeup. But I make children cry without it hahah. One time I went to work without makeup on and a little 5 year old pulled me aside and asked me what happened to my face (since I didn’t fill in my brows). The next time I wore makeup, the same kid told me I looked normal again LOL.

I prefer myself with full makeup on. If I wear base makeup of any kind I HAVE to fill my brows even with a nude eye. Sometimes I run late and leave the eyes alone. I have Asian eyes so eyeshadow and liner makes them feel so much bigger. It’s funny how a wash of eyeshadow can make you feel so different.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL aw thanks you’re too kind! ;-D <3! LOL I always feel like little kids run screaming when I don't have it on haha! ;-D

    • Agona

Haha, this didn’t happen to me but one of my coworkers went up to one of my friends (we were travelling for work) and he says to her, “Are you feeling okay? You look tired or sick or something.” And she was like, “I’m not wearing makeup. …thanks.” He turned bright red. It was hilarious.

  • Heather

I’m so all-or-nothing when it comes to my makeup. My typical every day makeup is full-on: false lashes and everything, even for work (I use a shorter style for work than I do on weekends, when I go all out lol). I think I’m the complete opposite from most other women in that I just don’t feel like I look like myself with little makeup on. If I don’t have time to do my normal face, I usually just go bare. Going without makeup definitely doesn’t make me happy or feel like myself, but I also get frustrated if I can only do a “little” bit since I feel like that’s not me, either. I wish I could come up with a look that takes less time and still feels like me! FWP, I know.

You look great both ways, but I agree – your look with shadow definitely makes your eyes pop. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I totally was that like that a few years ago! I’ve become a little lazier with age and let myself go more natural on the weekends 😀 aw thanks <3!

  • CarrieAnne

You look lovely either way. But to me it’s about how you feel about how you look. I don’t discount what my husband says about how he has always preferred minimal makeup. But I too feel more prepared and polished with makeup. I do less on casual days, absolutely. But I almost always am wearing concealer and mascara at the bare minimum because I have super dark circles and tiny eyelashes. Wearing glasses it is like my eyes disappear without some makeup there. I love lip products the most so I think that’s where I tend to make things pop for fun.

    • Isabella Muse

I always feel best in makeup and feel more ready to take on the day 😀

  • Carrie

You look good both ways! Most days I go bare faced. I work nights and don’t really bother. But sometimes I will.

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks <3! I don't blame you! Working nights isn't easy so just heading out fresh faced is the way to go!

  • J

I think without eye shadows, my eyes look kinda harsh, so I typically use some to ‘soften’ my eyes haha. If I don’t have time for eye shadow, I will definitely at least use eye liner and mascara because you pretty much cannot see my eye lashes.

You look great with or without though!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks! I do the same, I like to use something to just soften them up sometimes tan works great at making them look less tired!

  • Cheryl

I think you look fantastic either way. Without eyeshadow, you have a very youthful fresh faced appearance. With eyeshadow and Liner, do you have a more polished/sophisticated/dramatic look. Both are lovely, it just depends on what you are going for. You have been fortunate enough to inherit large, dark eyes and beautiful skin. With those features going for you, makeup is just icing on the cake. I personally don’t bother with make up on the weekends, as I am usually biking or stand up paddleboard surfing, and I would look like a melting candle in five seconds flat. For work, however, I do like to look more polished and professional and to me, that means evening out my skin tone, hiding the hyperpigmentation and undereye luggage, and suddenly enhancing my eyes and lips. Nothing crazy, just a little creative art project on my face while the caffeine kicks in.

  • genevieve

You look great both ways, but I do prefer the eyeshadow look – just because I love eyeshadows too!
I would never, ever go without eyeshadow because it is the favourite part of my makeup routine to pick the shades of the day and because it makes my face look complete.

  • Sarah

I think it is fun to wear makeup and be creative – express myself, and that is why I wear makeup. But if I am going swimming or walking I don’t wear makeup. When I would be running late to work, I would skip makeup. Also on days when I was feeling tired and depressed I would skip putting on makeup because I lost interest in it. I’m so thankful that I enjoy makeup again. That is the good part of the story.

  • Autumn

I have no choice but to not wear eyeshadow and liner. I used to be able to wear it, but I developed terrible sensitivity to it. Every once in a while I’d try again hoping that would change and would try different brands and primers, but waking up with my eyelids being swollen and covered in a rash after wearing Chanel eyeshadow the day before convinced me to stop trying. I had to learn to be confident without makeup and I focus on things instead that make me feel better and healthier like fitness and eating well. My boyfriend says I don’t need makeup, but if he said he would prefer me to wear it then I’d tell him I’d prefer it if he looked like Chris Pine.
