Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

I thought I’d review and swatch the new Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Mauve today after wearing it for the past week and a half and loving all over it. As you know, Huda introduced four different smaller, nine pan eyeshadow palettes recently in time for the Holidays at a low calorie price tag of $27 each. As a fan of both her Rose Gold and Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette I quickly purchased three of the four new Obsessions Eyeshadow Palettes. It was pretty much a new brainer purchase for me. Her stuff is good! Pigmented, applies and blends well for me, and just really compliments my eyes nicely.

Not everyone loves the formula of her shadows as her mattes can be quite firm and some of her shimmers are chunky with fall out. But thus far, everything I’ve purchased from her has been a win for me. I think anyone that had a disappointing experience with either the Desert Dusk or Rose Gold Palette you’ll find that the new Obsessions Palettes are much, much nicer. The mattes are silkier and the shimmers are more refined with a smoother texture. Don’t hesitate, give them a try I think you’ll love them!

Here’s my thoughts, review, and swatches.

The Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette comes housed in a rather small, compact black cardboard compact with a magnetic closure and a good-sized mirror inside. The palette holds nine dusky pink and rose eyeshadows but not a whole lot of mauve ones. Each shadow is 0.05 oz in size. There are three shimmers here and six mattes. Surprised? I am too because if you told me five or so years ago that I’d own a palette that was dominated by matte shades which I loved I’d probably call you a liar. But indeed, there are mostly mattes here and I’m quite alright with that.

One of the things I noticed first about the palette was the fact that I was able to easily pick color up with my brush or a sponge applicator but they swatched really, really poorly. I don’t know if my skin is super dry at the moment or what is happening but the mattes swatched sheer. I also couldn’t build on the shade at all. It was almost as if they color just rolled off my arm as I swatched it.

Don’t worry though! They might have swatched badly for me but they applied beautifully. Huda improved considerably on her mattes in these little palettes. They are a bit more powdery compared to her larger palettes and a lot less firm and dry. The texture is quite silky and applied quite easily for me. Some shades apply sheerly at first pass but you can easily build upon the color. I didn’t mind the fact they applied sheerly simply because it was very easy to build other colors into a look and blend easier without having shades go muddy. Not to mention these are very strong shades so the initial sheerness makes blending easy without fall out or a garish finish due to too much pigment. I was able to get plenty of color packed onto my lid below simply by building the colors up as I blended.

The shimmers are quite smooth with a velvety texture. These aren’t the Chromatic Pressed Pearl Eyeshadows we saw in the Rose Gold Palette. These have a more refined and pressed texture with a firmer feel with a lot less fall out. They make a wonderful, wonderful accent to the mattes. For my look below I used two of the mattes and I proceed to pat two different shimmers on the inner and middle part of my lid over the mattes while deepening the color on my outer v with a matte shade. It created a very pigmented look as you can see.

I do think a lot of the shades are similiar but not exact dupes to colors we’ve seen in both the Rose Gold and Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette but I don’t regret the purchase in the least even if the colors are similiar as I found the texture of these a lot easier to apply and blend.

Overall, I can’t rave the Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette enough! This is a beautiful round up of shades with an easy to use formula that makes eye makeup easy and fun.

These are so pretty on you Muse. I am still waiting on my order of the Mauve one which is still in process because of the sale.

I bought the Warm Brown one during the sale since I’d never tried Huda shadows before and I liked the small size. It’s a nice palette but I was disappointed that there was only one shimmer and the lightest shade in the palette pretty much sheered completely out on my eyelid. I’m planning to keep it, though; it may work better with a primer or a cream shadow underneath for me.

aw sorry to hear it! 🙁 That sucks! Let me know if it works out with cream. I had problems with sheering out too but the colors built well for me!

hmm i swatched in store and wasn’t impressed, but may you are right, maybe I need to get them to actually apply them on my lids and try them out 😉

they swatched BAD for me! They kept kind of rolling off my arm. It was weird. I chalked it up to my dry skin! On my lid they performed great 😀

Great review, Muse! Thanks. I’ve had my eye on this and going to snag during the Sephora sale.
My new slogan is going to be “Muse Made Me Buy It”

LOL ;-D I like that! We should make it a Musings of the Day Post. “What did Muse make you buy?” 😀

Ha! Awesome. Actually, speaking of which…how would you compare this to Tarte’s Make Magic Happen? I have that one as well. Do you think there are some dupes?

        Thanks!

Thanks for this review. I am getting the Dessert Dusk (win it in a raffle) and I been wanting this one too. But I see now I can have both without too many similar colours.

Thank you so much for this review. The mauve palette is the exact one I’ve had my eye on. I must be the only sephora vib who waited till the last day of the sale to get anything. Just finished ordering it and can’t wait to get it!

Those color look so gorgeous on you! I envy people that can wear pink and rose colored eyeshadows. They tend to emphasize my bloodshot eyes and bright pink cheeks. Sigh. I’ll just live vicariously through you Muse.

I’m so glad you reviewed these. I purchased the warm brown palette on a whim. I’m not a big eyeshadow wearer, especially on days I work (nurse). They end up fading by the end of the day. Not these eyeshadows. I was flabbergasted when I got home and noticed when I went to take of my makeup. Beautiful colors!
