Tarte Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette Review & Swatches
Tarte Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette ($39) is a new Spring 2018 palette featuring soft, creamy selection of metallic eyeshadows. It’s probably a little too early to say this since brands are just starting to push their Spring 2018 Collections but this is turning into one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes of the season.
Tarte did an outstanding job with this formula and I have hopes they are testing the market with this palette and have plans to either do a larger palette with the formula or a selection of individual eyeshadows shades. As you know I’m not terribly into metallic or foiled eyeshadows because they tend to be frost on these but Tarte somehow created a formula that compliments eyes beautifully well and adds a gorgeous pop of shimmer and color to lids that looks dramatic, bold, and fancy.
Tarte Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette comes in a gorgeous gold compact with a face plate that contains a shimmering sandy 3D design with small aqua pebbles. It looks like something you’d find at the bottom of an enchanted sea bed where mermaids make their home. It’s really a gorgeous palette and beautifully presented. Inside is a generously-sized mirror and the five eyeshadow shades.
The palette contains three creamy, foiled shades which have a thick, creamy texture and are meant to be applied with fingers. That’s actually part of the joy of the palette that will either disgust you or make you sing in joy how easy application is. I was actually pretty hyped that I could do an incredible eye look in a few seconds using only my fingers. But I totally get that a lot of people will be concerned about germs, bacteria, and just the general grossness of using fingers to pick up color overtime. You can, of course, use a flat brush to pick the color up and apply it to your lids but I felt I had more control using my fingers to blend since the texture is quite thick and you want to sheer it out as you blend since it’s also very pigmented. My trick? Don’t dip your fingers into the well! Instead pick up color with a brush and just transfer that color to your finger for application. You can always clean your brush later plus this prevents bacteria from building up overtime if you’re using your fingers on the shades.
I didn’t use any primer when I was testing this palette and had absolutely no issues with creasing or fading. The color starts out quite creamy but it locked nicely onto my drier lids and still gave me plenty of time to blend and play before setting.
Gold Coast, Sailor’s Delight, and Sea Glass are the three master shades as I call them. These are the colors with the most pigment and the creamiest texture. Stargazer is a split pan of top coats with a far different formula that works best applied over any of the three foiled shades. These reminded me of a thicker version of the shades found in the Wet n Wild Color Icon Glitter Palettes that are typically released around Fall/Halloween. At first I was a little worried they’d be a big glitter mess and in someways they are but a little tiny bit applied over any of the other shades really adds beautiful pop and drama to your completed eye look. I used the clear crystal shade over Sea Glass in my look below and it created this golden sheen over the color that had a duochrome effect. Since this particular shade had a grittier, thicker consistency compared to the other three shades I was concerned about glittery fall out but I had absolutely none.
I had an absolute blast using this palette over the last few days. I created a variety of gorgeous looks that really looked amazing. I was slightly disappointed that not all the shades technically work together but you can honestly still create a variety of looks none the less. I actually have hopes Tarte will do another palette with more shades as I’d totally buy more.
All in all, Tarte Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette was a super prelude to Spring 2018. If you have upcoming Holiday parties to attend or evenings out this is the palette that will create gorgeous, sultry sparkly looks for those events in seconds! You don’t need to be an expert, anyone can create a gorgeous look in seconds!
