Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics X UO Lip Tar

Rumors are flying that Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC Cosmetics) is now out of business due to the fact their Instagram and Twitter accounts have both disappeared and they haven’t updated their Facebook page since early March and that too has disappeared as of today. Not to mention they have had an endless round of sales over the last year or so which made people question what might be going on with the brand.

There’s website is also online with a message that states: “Our website is temporarily offline, in the interim, shop OCC at Riley Rose, Urban Outfitters & Nordstrom! Questions about an existing order? Email us at [email protected].”

As you already know I’m sure, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics is well known for their famously pigmented Lip Tars which quickly gained a cult following. Much to everyone’s excitement the brand made an appearance at Sephora as well but quickly disappeared from shelves a short while after the debut.

One of the most interesting articles I read about the topic comes from Zadidoll who speculated that the brand’s demise could be potentially due to a Sephora contract that went bad and put the brand in potential dept.

It’s sad to see such a great Indie brand tank. I have hopes these are all rumors and perhaps OCC is planning some major come back but I’m not holding my breath.

Do you think Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics really went out of business?

Are you a fan?

Will you miss the brand?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. No! I hope not! If they go out of business…that would be awful! OCC is such an institution.

I love their lip tars and I own dozens. There are still more I want. 🙁 And their nail polishes!

I hope not too! It took me ages to try lip tar and when I did I was in love! I forgot their polishes! Also the concealers! and the loose pigments!

I feel like with the advent of liqud lipsticks, and then the return of gloss, they needed to have way more innovation than they have done recently. I had a set of mulitple colours of lip tar once and loved the but didn’t ever repurchase. I did buy a product they released later, a black and white thing you could use to make lip colours darker or lighter. It wasn’t a great texture. I really love indie brands, but some of them have a longevity issue that big brands don’t, they just don’t always change with the trends or have the staying power of a classic. So it’s sad, but it’s one of quite a few to go, and probably not the most impactful.

Agreed! I really liked their original lip tars, but other than repackage them a while back, they really never evolved beyond those and the nail polishes. Other similar-sized indies definitely seemed to outpace them in the last few years.

Any company that put out nail polishes like Technopagan should be in business forever! Their nail polishes were the best! So sad!!!

Crushing news. Please come back, OCC! Love the hyperpigmented Lip Tars. T_T

That makes me so sad, and so pissed at Sephora. Their behavior was 100% awful.

I’m so sad to hear this! I was always curious as to why OCC was no longer available at Sephora. I always preferred the original packaging, but I could see how most of the pubic (newbie) makeup users wouldn’t be fans of the tubes. But, even though OCC was available on Sephora, I would still purchase online directly with OCC, as a way to directly support them and I could always get every item I wanted in the line. Sad situation!
I was fan of their original Lip Tars and owned dozens. I used to purchase them at many makeup shows too. They were in my top 5 favorite lippies. I also own several of their nail polishes too. I loved how they matched their lip tars with nail colors – brilliant! Just recently, I wanted to purchase more their metallic & original lip tars and this news really does suck!

I really hope it isn’t true and they’ll be back at some point!!!!!!!!!

I guess I was in the minority, but I hate lip tars. And their nail polishes were nothing special, shade wise.

I never heard of anyone talk about them. That is rather disturbing knowing they may be in a possible debt because of a bad contract (I hope that doesn’t happen to Colourpop/Ulta). OCC should comeback and rebrand themselves. I remember they were sold at Sephora for awhile. I wanted to try the brand, but they never had anything interesting.

They are blowing out stock on Belk! I just got 4 Lip Tars are $3.99 each, free shipping! Belk’s website is buggy, though. They show all the colors X-out but I was able to add the colors I wanted to my cart and check out but event hat was hard. Had to switch from Chrome to Explorer for my cc to work. Now let’s hope I get them. They also have loose pigment, concealer and pencils for $3.99 each. Enjoy!

ONE lippy has already shipped. Don’t know why they don’t ship all together. It will probably come in a huge box too, LOL. They are such a weird outfit. I feel like M. Corleone, every time I want out, they pull me back in!
