It’s a weird thing about vanilla. I used to hate it. I like sweet, juicy scents. Fruity ones and most definitely gourmand anything but vanilla wasn’t a scent I loved to much later in life.

Nowadays I have many, many vanilla fragrances in my life but when I think of the ultimate vanilla, the top vanilla that I wouldn’t want to live without, two fragrances come to mind.

Stila Creme Bouquet and Lush Vanillary are by far the two best vanilla fragrances in the world as far as I’m concerned. Stila sadly discontinued Creme Bouquet a while ago. Why they did this is beyond me! It is perfect vanilla blend that’s comforting, unique, and truly gorgeous. I hope someday they’ll bring it back. Thankfully I have a small stockpile of it to keep me comfortable until that hopeful day arrives.

The second best vanilla in the world would be Vanillary which comes from our friends at Lush. This is what I’d like to think lightest, fluffiest white wedding cake smells like. A perfect gourmand vanilla that’s sweet, slightly cake-y, creamy, and slightly balsamic. It is positively dreamy!

I purchased a 3.4 oz bottle of Vanillary my last trip to London and when I got home I was regretful for not purchasing another. I decided I’d head onto Lush UK and grab one. Sadly, they do not ship such large bottles to the US.

Oh woe was me.

The thing with Lush is you never know when the rug will be slipped from under your feet. They discontinue products willy nilly like my beloved Potion. Needless to say being a Lush fan means you’ll develop anxiety and want to be sure you hoard away all your favorite things from them less they disappear tomorrow. Although I already have quite a few smaller bottles of Vanillary I felt positively delighted and comforted that the scent was available in a 3.4 oz size. This allowed me to hoard a little easier. But there was so much sadness when I couldn’t order a second bottle.

Much to my delight Lush US stores recently got 3.4 oz bottles of most all scents including Vanillary. Mind you they don’t come cheap! Vanillary will set you back $79.95. Ouch! But to me it is so worth it. I quickly hauled two bottles to hoard away in a dark spot in my closet just in case one day Lush decides to take it away from me.

You can get yours now at any Lush store.

Are you a Vanillary fan?

no, much more cake-like with delicate white petal notes and a lot of sweetness. It’s a very true vanilla scent to my nose.

Oooh! Lush perfumes are the best! I can wear any of them with no headache. Vanillary is one of my faves, right behind lord of misrule. This size is nice but I have 6 bottles of lush in rotation already.

I tried the solid version of Vanillary years ago and loved the scent, but I hated how short the wear time was for me considering how expensive that little stick was (or was it a pot?). Vanilla fragrances are my absolute favorite! They’re so comfy and yummy. I’m currently obsessed with Victoria’s Secret Midnight Ivy, but since it was limited edition, so my stash is only going to last me so long and then I’ll be sad again… I may decide to bite the bullet and try the Vanillary spray. I haven’t found another vanilla scent that I love as much as my current or that one. I like the deeper, darker vanilla scents.

    • Isabella Muse

The pots never work for me. Try the spray, much more longer wearing ;-D What’s midnight ivy like!? Gotta see if I can hunt it down on evil bay! This isn’t really dark or deep tbh! It’s more cake vanilla to me 😀

Hmm, I’ll have to stop by Lush again and take a sniff to make sure I still love it, but I’m sure I will! I’ll take vanilla in almost any form as long as it isn’t too obnoxiously sweet and cloying. Some fragrances make me nauseous if they’re too sweet, which is probably why I’ve used the same perfume nearly all of my life (Ralph by Ralph Lauren, blue bottle)… until Midnight Ivy. I did also like Viva la Juicy Gold, which also smells like dessert.
Hmm, I’m horrible at describing fragrances… The description on the bottle says “Sexy-warm woods, a touch of cozy gourmand, dark and enticing”. I’d say that’s fairly accurate. I think the hint of vanilla I get in it is from that gourmand part, and I would definitely say that is a great word to describe it. It’s definitely dark and seductive. It’s one of those scents that people stop me to ask about, so I’d say it’s something most people would like. It has pretty good lasting power too, especially considering it’s just a fragrance mist. You can still find them on Ebay! I ended up getting 4 more bottles of it at a steal. I just wish I’d known it was limited edition when I was in VS on Black Friday! I would have snagged like 20 bottles, lol!

        • Isabella Muse

I love Ralph too! Such a great way ;-D That good!? 20 bottles?! Yeah I need to track it down LOL! I’ll tell you if I smell it and let ya know what I think but sounds like something I’d like! thanks!!!!!!

How does this compare to Lavanila? I haven’t found anything that can beat that.

  • Kristin Monterosso

i Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar is another great “true vanilla” option. (I would also say Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille, but that just has no lasting power on me, unfortunately.)
I’m also interested in trying Montale’s new one, Vanilla Cake, which has ” notes of almond powder, butter cream, milky mousse, caramel, yogurt cake, meringue and vanilla.”

    • Isabella Muse

Agreed! That’s a fab vanilla! SL is a more woodsy set on me! I didn’t like Vanilla Cake by Montale, I can’t believe I’m saying it but it gives me a headache. It’s a little too much for me. I gifted the bottle I purchased to my sis who loves vanilla too ;-D Beware with that one. Get a sample first!

I am obsessed with vanilla scents. Thank you for the intel! About 15 years ago, MAC made a vanilla fragrance and I loved it. I am definitely going to search out Vanillary!

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure! Let me know if you try it and what you think!

  • Joanna

I tried for years to be open minded about vanilla frags but never could find one for me. Then I smelled one being worn by a man. Ohhh. Now I can’t find one that my man is willing to wear.

    • Isabella Muse

haha ;-D good luck! guys like the way it smells just not on them!

I have been obsessed with Vanillary since they originally released it a decade ago as a bath bomb, solid shampoo and massage bar. I am SO SO SO glad the 3.4 oz is now available, as I, like you, will need to horde a few bottles just in case (ok, WHEN) they decide to take Vanillary off the shelves forever.

    • Isabella Muse

likewise! and what you just said there, SO much truth! “When” It’s always a question of when it’ll disappear with Lush 🙁
