I don’t know if I’d necessarily call my hair curly but it’s definately wavy and long with bouts of dryness and frizzies that keeps me on my toes to tame!
I normally like tugging it into a bun and slapping a hairband on to keep it nice and neat especially when I’m working! However, during the days that I have it down it’s difficult to tame it all and keep it from flying around my head like a runaway train!
In comes my very favorite shampoo, Lush Curly Wurly. A review for Lush Curly Wurly is long overdo so here’s your loving Muse finally bringing you my opinion on Lush’s Curly Wurly Shampoo!
Curly Wurly is an extremely thick shampoo which is made from various fresh ingredients minus preservatives. Even though the formula is lacking preservatives, the shampoo, in fact manages to weigh down hair considerably well. With hair that’s curly and or wavy you need the extra weigh of a good, thick shampoo to tame your hair and weigh it down which keeps it from frizzing up and out.
Although the formula does a successful job of weighing my hair down and keeping it both manageable and beautiful I do have to be careful how often I use this as it causes a bit of buildup and oiliness when used often.
The formula is a mix of chunky coconut and a base of avocado. The mix of the two fruits and additional oils creates a rather thick paste that smells like fresh coconuts and vanilla. Although the formula has huge shreds of coconut these wash out easily after dunking under your shower for a rinse.
The results of the product are outstanding especially if your hair is thick and dry. I’ve been using this for over 7 months and my hair is considerably more managable, less frizzy, and my curls are more defined.
At $19.50 USD it’s not the cheapest shampoo option around however since it suds up and foams up so well it’ll easy take you 3-4 months to get through an entire pot.
Some key points of the product is the fact that it creates amazingly gorgeous curls while removing frizz and dryness plus giving shine and definition to your hair. It contains no silicons which a plus for keeping your hair beautiful.
After several months of use my hair is less frizzy, softer without the dryness I normally experience, and just overall looks much better.
This is a conditioning shampoo so following up with conditioner is completely optional. Although my hair is very long and very wavy I successfully washed with Curly Wurly and didn’t have a problem with tangles after using without conditioner.
All in all I love this! It gets a hearty Muse Approval for purchase! The Muse loves Lush Curly Wurly and recommends giving it a try!
If you’re not wanting to commit to a full pot might I suggest heading to your local store and asking for a small sample to test out for yourself!

Sometimes the simple products work the best.
You may have read in my past posts or in my most recent review that my hair is silicon free. My hair for the most part is free of silicons thanks to Lush hair care. Although Lush does an AMAZING job of keeping my hair clean, beautiful, and bad hair day free I do occasionally want to be extra gentle to my locks while adding in a bit of silicon as sometimes my hair craves that extra weight and moisture that silicon products provide. That’s when I reach for a simple product that won’t break the bank, works really well, and doesn’t load my hair up with a ton of build up!
My god, what is this amazing product that keeps your hair gorgeous Muse?
It’s cheap, it smells beautiful, and it’ll give you some sincerely great hair days.
Since most brands of kids and baby shampoo hair care are made extra gentle and do not contain as many silicons and harsh ingredients as regular shampoo does it’s the perfect solution for getting your hair super clean, gives great condition and moisture, and is super gentle on your locks without causing serious build up.
Since babies and kids have such fine hair they need something gentle to take care of their hair without causing breakage and buildup thus many brands including the popular Johnson & Johnson line create various hair care solutions that are catered towards children.
Although I’m sure I’ll get hell for this from everyone I do admit to washing my hair every single day. Yes, I do. I just don’t feel clean if I haven’t scrubbed my hair up. My hair always behaves amazingly well thanks to a combination of using Lush and baby shampoo.
At the moment my must have kids shampoo is L’Oreal Kids Extra Gentle 2 in 1 Kangaroo’s Mangoroo Shampoo. Hey…sue me..I like Dr. Seuss what can I say?
In all seriousness I really dig the smell. It’s a sweet, fruity scent that’s really lingers well so much so that people next to me will ask what I washed my hair with or what am I wearing. The formula is super gentle and moisturizing even for someone like me with wavy, curly hair that’s extremely long.
I switch my Lush shampoos and conditioners for this twice a week and my hair always seems to thank me for adding it into the mix of things. I find I have less frizz, better manageability, a beautiful scent, plus my hair fairly squeaks it’s so clean!
So the Muse’s moral of this story is that baby and kids shampoo is super cheap and works super well at keeping your hair in beautiful condition!
Head on down the baby aisle and score yourself a few bottles. This particular bottle that I am raving about cost me $1.79 USD! Go firgure!
Awesome hair days await you for under $2 bucks!
The Muse Approves baby shampoo for use!
Release your inner child and start walking down the path to softer hair, less frizz, and better hair days!
P.S. Yes I’m dead serious in case you’re sitting there scratching your head over this post! Go get some baby shampoo and stop reading this!
Beauty on a Budget: L’Oreal Studio Perfect Fix and Studio Smoothness Smoothing Cream Review
Detox your hair with a Lush Big Shampoo and Lush Retread Conditioner Review
Find out how you can customize your haircare with great etailer options!
I was recently given a few L’oreal hair care products for review so I thought I’d slap them in my Beauty on a Budget section and give you the low down on these two new products from L’Oreal.
I got both the L’Oreal Studio Perfect Fix Ultra-Fine Spray and the Studio Smoothness Smoothing Cream. Since they are both for hair management I figured I’d review them together!
The good news is I actually like both.
It deserves to be mentioned that my hair has been silicon free for a few years now. I use all Lush hair care which contains no silicons which in turn equals perfect hair everyday of my life. The only silicons that take up residence in my hair were a bit of smoothing gel I used to use a year ago but I had since switched my gel over to Lush’s King of Mods and that was the end of silicons from my life completely!
Aside from that I will say that I’ve been using the L’Oreal Studio Smoothness Smoothing Cream for a week now and I actually do like it. I know hair care posts are probably a snore but since I have the products here anyway I figure I might as well review them!
The texture is simply wonderful. I may be out of touch with the drugstore brand of hair care and there may very well be a product out there like this already but I’ve personally never seen such an interesting formula. The texture is just like a moisturizing lotion that you’d apply to your body! I take a little more than a pea size amount and apply it to my wet hair and smooth it in. It tames my any frizz I have and keeps my hair safely in place all day long. My hair is very long, very wavy, and very out of control thus slicking it back into a bun and slapping a hair band in place is my normal order of the day when I’m heading out to work. It happens to smell really fresh as well kinda like the way most salons smell when you walk in! You know what I mean I’m sure!
Now I also received the matching L’Oreal Perfect Fix Ultra Fine Spray Finishing Hairspray! Holy cow that was a big mouth full! This too I will give a raving review too. Again, I feel a bit out of touch with hair care from drugstores and have no idea of options available out there but I felt like this was very different from my past drugstore purchases. It’s been ages since I’ve touched drugstore styling products and I always think back to my teen years when hair spray and gel bulletproof’ed my head for me. This was great because if someone shot at me I could carry on without worry since the bullet would literally bounce off my head. Can’t say I get the same sort of protection with this hairspray! It’s very light, smells lovely, and doesn’t leave behind a hard, crusty layer! It actually makes my hair very soft and bouncy! The Muse likey!
As I said I’m shocked as I really do associate major build up with styling products but both of these did work well and gave a very natural finish and hold that I liked! I’m still using both after a week now which could count for something, obviously I’m impressed.
If you’re looking for something to give your hair great management and minimal buildup with a cheap price tag I’d definately see about picking up both of these. These are pretty darn good.

Lush Cosmetics has a special knack for discontinuing some of my very favorite products. Lush normally runs through items that aren’t selling well at year’s end and they end up axing them and putting out a fresh new line in the place of some old favorites.
Most Lush addicts fail to understand they mystery of the dreaded discontinue list as many of the items seem to be selling great so why stop making them? No items are immune when it comes time to chop the line up and do away with the old and bring in the new! Bad news for Lush lovers everywhere when that happens!
But I do have good news! Phew!
Lush UK has been running something called Retro Lush for the past few months now which brings back old favorites. This first began as a series of races and those items ordered enough from the site would be made up and brought back for purchase. Soon after these “races” they decided to just bring back all the old favorites and sell them as regular items! Yay! The Muse did indulge in ordering from Lush UK and stashing away large quantities of bath bombs, shampoo, and other yummie items!
But the good news is if you fear the scary airmail prices from UK to US you can now get Retro Lush from the Lush US site! Wahoo!

Lush Shampoo Bar Review
I’ve already done a section on Lush Cosmetics Shampoo Bars a long, long while ago but I was doing my daily Sunday night hair clarifying ritual yesterday and I thought I’d share it with you guys since it works so well for me!
As you know my hair mostly stays up and out of my face in a bun with a headband. I don’t like my hair flying around my head, my mouth, my face, etc….it irritates and annoys me since it’s so very long. I like it out of my face when I’m working so 5 days a week from 9 to 5 my hair stays firmly in it’s bun with a headband smoothing it back. After work and on the weekends I don’t mind it floating around but when I’m working it’s smoothed back!
I wash it everyday. I do not believe that washing my hair daily will strip my hair of it’s natural oils yada yada yada. If it does, it does but the fact of the matter is I don’t feel clean unless my hair is washed so every morning I take a shower and I wash and condition my hair.
During the week I use various shampoos, conditioners, and such. My hair doesn’t have a whole lot of maintenance attached to it during the week. It consists of me entering the shower washing it with my daily choice of shampoo and condition, air drying it, curling it into a bun, and going.
I don’t blow dry my hair, I don’t curl it, etc….My hair is naturally curly, a bit dry, and long.
I normally use a very small amount of gel to slick it back otherwise I do have a bit of frizz.
Since I like to switch around shampoos and conditioners so much through the week my hair becomes weighted down from all the silicons in those products plus the gel causes it’s normal wreckage with my hair.
What does that mean?
It means my hair is heavy with a bit of buildup. We all get it, it happens to everyone.
My Sunday evening routine prior to bed is to take a shower and clarify my hair. There is nothing in the world like the feeling of a lighter head of hair. It feels cleaner, my curls are softer, my hair is shiner, etc…after I’ve used a good clarifying shampoo.
My personal choice for that shampoo is Lush Cosmetics Big. Big gets my hair so clean it nearly whistles. Seriously. If your hair is oily this is a god sent!
Big is actually for people with fine hair thus the name comes into play here. Big is supposed to give volume and pouf to those of you with fine hair! I do not have fine hair but I still use Big regardless for me it’s a deep cleaning shampoo that rids my hair of buildup. If you suffer from dandruff this will surely rid you of your problem as it contains sea salt which is fantastic for massaging into your scalp to rid yourself of any nasty dandruff that’s made a home in your head!
The formula of this is a tad bit weird and probably not like any shampoo you’ve run across before. It’s clumpy and full of seat salt so it basically looks like a pot of scrub for your face or body not something you’d use in your hair. Many people are a bit wary of trying it because they are worried the sea salt will not wash out easy. Have no fear the salt washes away quickly and easily. The lather is beautiful and the smell is fresh and beautiful.
Now I had mentioned earlier on that this would be good for oily scalps. My hair is dry so do be warned that this will make your hair even drier when use it. It drys out hair big time so you need to follow up with a good conditioning. There in lays a good thing for the oily scalp folk as Big will definately dry up your scalp, remove the oil from your hair, and replace it with fluffy, soft hair!
Since Big is so drying I follow up closely with Lush’s Retread Conditioner. Retread smells just as gorgeous as Big and compliments it well in my humble opinion! Retread is one of Lush’s thickest conditioners minus any silicones. Your hair might not know what to do without the silicones you get in your normal conditioner but as it adjusts it’ll thank you for treating it to such an amazing conditioner. I normally smooth a good amount on and leave it on for 5 minutes while in the shower right after I’ve rinsed out Big. During that time frame I take a large tooth comb and start detangling with Retread in and smoothing my hair back and while working the conditioner through. Since Big leaves my hair such a mess and in such a tangle it feels good to gently work the comb through while Retread helps with the knots that Big created.
After 5 minutesI rinse with luke warm water and I’m done.
I towel dry my hair after this and go to bed with it damp. In the morning my hair is fluffy, soft, and beautiful. After this treatment my hair seems to just behave better. It accepts product better, it brushes out easier, I don’t experience frizz or tangles as much, and my hair just seems to be thankful that I took a bit of time out to treat it to a nice clarify!
So that’s about it
The Muse highly recommends trying out Big and Retread for yourself! Retread is fantastic for daily use and as for Big I only recommend using it once a week and twice if you’re hair/scalp is oily!
