Lush Christmas Cake Soap Review

The Muse likes cake. She particularly likes Christmas Cake. It’s a rather sad state of affairs that Christmas Cake isn’t as popular within the US as it is in the UK.

Of course, we have our version which looks something like this:
fruit cake

And tastes something like this:
cardboard

The Muse says if you want really good Christmas Cake your best bet is hop onto the nearest flight to England!

If you’re not particularly ready to board a plane the Muse highly recommends nabbing some Lush Christmas Cake Soap and calling it a day! Lush Christmas Cake Soap wasn’t on my wishy list this year however the curiosity of Christmas and Cake in one sentence, together, peeked my interest.

Picture+002

What Lush has to say about it:

Looks like cake, smells like cake, but it’s best to wash with it (trust us). Christmas Cake soap reminds us of a very special holiday treat on a festive platter next to an open fire of fragrant, smouldering wood logs that chase the chill away. This skin-softening soap with soothing, smoky vetivert essential oil and organic aloe vera keeps your skin calm (and spirits bright) during the Yuletide, even if everything else goes a little crazy.

What the Muse has to say about it:

Christmas Cake Soap is quite a delightful little surprise! Strangely enough Christmas Cake smells quite similiar to Snowcake (the Muse’s most favorite soap evers!) But don’t buy this just because you love Snowcake because honestly the two soaps are vastly different. Although Christmas Cake has the beautiful base of Snowcake it also contains a smoky dominant note of vetivert which makes this an interesting cocktail of delicate and hard. I’m normally not partial to soaps that have such a woodsy note but I really enjoy how this takes a combination of a soft scent and is beefed up with a hard nutty edge. You’ll get the faint scent of marzipan to start with and closely behind that you’ll get a fruity woodsy dominant note which is followed close behind by a hint of spice. It’s such a complex blend that it’s something you need to check out for yourself to either appreciate or hate. The Muse falls into the appreciate group! I like this one! It’s a rather interesting blend that I haven’t really smelled in any other Lush product so I’m liking it. Very unique and different!

Picture+003

Picture+005

I don’t think Christmas Cake is for everyone however those who appreciate complex, unique blends should like this very much. Christmas Cake is available for a limited time during the Holidays at your local Lush or from Lush’s website! Grab some before it’s gone as Holiday products are known to sell out very, very, very quickly!

The Muse is glad to add a little Christmas Cake to her morning shower and thinks you might too!

Buy Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely and Get a Free Sex and the City DVD!

All my lovely Canadian readers should be happy about this one!

Exclusively at Sears in Canada as of October 18th you can visit your nearest Sears fragrances department and with the purchase of a Sarah Jessica Parker Eau de Parfum you can get a free copy of Sex and the City on DVD!

Cool right?

On occasion I’ll do a post about an item that my lovely Canadian readers are unable to get and I always here groans in my comment box about how unfair it is that they can’t get it…so now it’s the Muse’s turn to sadly sigh and say “No Fair!”

Lush B Electro Soap Review

During my last UK Lush Order I failed to order Lush B Electro Soap which is Lush’s newest soap that’s available for a limited time, thank god for that.

I’m not the biggest fan of B Electro considering that it reminds me of another soap Lush used to make entitled Happy….I believe it was Happy don’t quote me on that though (many Lush soaps have come and gone through the Muse’s life and she can’t remember them all, especially if they sucked!).

It lathers really well however doesn’t offer any moisturizing as most Lush soaps do. I think about the only good thing about it, is it’s cool neon color and the neon suds it creates in my shower! I feel like I need a dark light so I can take a shower while my body is partially submerged in bits of neon green suds! During this time I could also play bad 80′s Cyndi Lauper songs and bop around the shower stall singing about how girls just want to have fun (stranger things have been known to happen in the Muse’s shower!).

I normally dislike shopping for Lush in store considering people put their grubby, sweaty hands on everything in the store which is about the time the Muse has a total freak attack over the germs…oh god the germs…..Ahhhh! Lord knows some of these people may have picked their nose prior to picking up that bath bomb!

You can relate if A. You’ve shopped at Lush before or B. Don’t dig strangers touching soap and other items that you’ll be using on your body or face!

Picture+037

Picture+038

I got sucked into the pull of buying a chunk of B Electro when an SA calmly explained to me that the entire slab was brand new and just put out, she promised, swore on her dear old dead grandmere, and on her unborn child that it indeed was new. I quickly took her word for it and decided ok I’ll buy a slice since I’m here already! Later on my friend Jamie reminded me that several people were in the store during this time and could have possibly touched it before I entered shop…thanks Jamie…Love you.

I quickly realized when I got it home that this wasn’t for me. Although it’s a nice enough soap and suds up beautiful and of course as I mentioned it’s freaking neon green (that along should make us all wet our pants in excitement!), this is sadly all it has going for it. I sniffed it casually when in the store but when I did finally get around to using it I just wasn’t digging the scent.

Sheesh I hate giving Lush a poor review. I love Lush but this just didn’t do it for me! I had hoped and wished for a bright, citrus scent and B Electro does have have a nice fruity, citrus smell but it also has an underlay of fennel and rose which pulls through way more prominently then it’s base of grapefruit. I don’t mind the rose but bringing together rose, fennel, grapefruit and jasmine and you pretty much have disaster in a bar of soap!

Sadly, B Electroc failed to do much for me and my $10 piece quickly made it’s way into the nearest trash can however I keep hope alive that one day Lush will create another masterpiece of a citrus soap like Sexy Peel and all will be right again with the world! Until that time no more exciting neon green shower experiences here!

Bath and Body Works Sleep Collection: Bath and Body Works Body Wash and Massage Oil in Warm Milk and Honey Review

As the weather gets colder the nesting urge comes on rather strong. You know the feeling I’m sure. It’s that feeling of wanting to stay home more often, cuddled up in your warm bed or on the couch watching a great DVD with friends or family while sipping hot chocolate or maybe by yourself with a nice pair of warm socks and a good book!

One of my favorite things to do come the cold weather is take long, warm baths! I swear that Fall and Winter is bathing season! I rarely take long, warm baths in the Summer but come the cold weather I’m jumping in the tub every night to relax and unwind after work!

I simply couldn’t resist Bath and Body Works New Sweet Dreams Collection as it has luxurious written all over it and of course appeals to that nesting urge of my personality.

Picture+117

Last night I treated myself to an amazingly warm, relaxing bath filled with Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Bath Wash in Warm Milk and Honey. If bathing in softly scented bubbles of Warm Milk and Honey wasn’t enough I decided to add a capful of Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Massage Oil! Mmm truly a relaxing experience after a really long day! I sat in the tub for over an hour with my eyes closed and just soaked it all up! Slap me and call me silly but I swear it totally worked at unwinding me and making me feel sleepy. Right after I promptly went to bed in a cloud of beautiful Milk and Honey Scented hair and body (the Muse loves to dunk her head when she’s in the tube thus her hair was left smelling rather wonderful after her bath!).

Picture+119

Picture+118

Picture+120

Picture+121

Picture+1525

Picture+122

Picture+123

Picture+124

It’s difficult to explain the scent of Warm Milk and Honey but I’m pretty sure that Bath and Body Works did a rather fabulous job of re-creating the scent. Milk and Honey manages to be both warm and fresh with touches of vanilla, sugar, lemon, and honey. The scent starts off very fresh and light with a touch of lemon but quickly morphs into a spicy vanilla and follows up with warm touches of honey! It’s a proven fact that scent has a way of evoking feelings and emotions in individuals and in this case Warm Milk and Honey makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and as my eye lids grew heavier and heavier while I was laying in the tube I firgured it was about time to get out!

I was sad to see the experience end but tonight I’ll be doing the same thing….I’m addicted!

Bath and Body Works Body Wash in Warm Milk and Honey can be used in your shower or bath tub for a moisturizing bathing experience. The scent isn’t overpowering and the formula isn’t drying to the skin. It doesn’t leave behind an overwhelming scent so if you’d like to layer on your favorite body lotion or perfume after using this it won’t clash with your chosen fragrance!

Picture+1128

Bath and Body Works Massage Oil in Warm Milk and Honey was a pleasant surprise. When I first got it I was thinking to myself what in the world am I going to do with this? Turns out it multitasks as a moisturizer on rough elbows and knees, you can use it to shave with, or use a bit in a warm bath for an all over moisturizing experience. I’ll be purchasing a second one of these after I’ve used the first bottle.

On top of really great contents the Bath and Body Works Sleep Collection has some seriously beautiful packaging. The massage oil comes in a heavy cobalt glass bottle. If you’re a sucker for gorgeous packaging you’ll really appreciate the elegant, old world appeal of the bottles and jars the Sleep Collection comes packed in and of course, want to display them on a shelf in your bathroom.

All in all I’m very pleased with these two items and I’m Muse Approving them for purchase! It was nice coming home after a very long day to soak in the tub. I think I even appreciated it more than normal since I’ve been feeling rather weak since I’ve been sick! It was the perfect cure all for my hacking cough and stuffy noise!

musegold

The entire Bath and Body Works Sleep Collection is available now on the Bath and Body Works website and at your local Bath and Body Works store. The collection includes other items as well that I didn’t feature here, do check them out, the Muse has her eye on the pillow mist!

Philosophy Snowman Shower Gel

Holy Christmas Batman!

I said it before, I’ll say it again, it’s way too bloody early for me to be talking about Holiday and Winter Collections!

Sad sigh!

I want to just enjoy the Fall season a little while longer! Ow well if you’re feeling a bit Christmas-like this beautiful Fall afternoon you might want to head over to QVC and type in item number A86813 and lay your eyes on this:

Tis Philosophy’s Snowman 3 in 1 Shower Gel! We had the Milk Man, we had the Ice Cream Man, we had the Gingerbread Man…lord knows Philosophy is running out of men to give us! Now they are gifting us with The Snowman!

This is the super-size, 32oz, available exclusively from QVC for $22.49 USD. I personally haven’t seen this little guy anywhere else and it’s possible we may not see him anywhere else for a while!

So if you want him, you’ll have to head over to QVC to nab him!

I’m not sure I’ll purchase him as the reviews I’ve read seem to say he may spell like Philosophy The Gingerbread Man even though his description reads that he’s fresh and frosty!

Hmmm remains to be seen I guess!

We shall see if the Muse gives in to her urges and nabs some Philosophy The Snowman for her very self!

For now you can visit QVC and read the reviews for yourself and come back to tell me what you think!

Ralph Lauren Notorious Review

I’m always so terrible with my fragrance reviews but I couldn’t help but want to test out and review Ralph Lauren Notorious for you this week!

It’s been a while in between my Ralph Lauren purchases and normally I indulge in his “fun” scents like Ralph, Ralph Rocks, Etc….however I took a step way up the ladder of sophication when I tried out Ralph Lauren Notorious for the first time last week! It’s seen been a staple fragrance in my wardrobe for the over a week since using it.

Picture+118

Picture+119

Picture+120

Picture+124

Picture+121

It is an Eau de Parfum which makes the staying power fantastically long wearing while lingering throughout the day and into the night! Two squirts pretty much gets me well into the evening which is especially good considering how my body chemistry sucks up fragrance extremely quick leading me to have to re-touch up throughout the day.

The scent is a very provocative, oriental blend that has traces of fresher notes like Italian Bergamot and Vanilla. It’s sophisticated enough for evening wear but manages to keep a lighter side that’s perfectly lovely for a work day as well. I was slightly frightened of the drydown notes of patchouli however it remains timelessly elegant.

The price is affordable at $45 USD for a 1 oz bottle of Eau de Parfum and the scent is works very well as a day or evening fragrance! All in all Ralph Lauren Notorious definately gets my seal of approval for purchase! Even thought it’s outside my normal, I really liked this one alot and Muse Approve it for purchase!

Dylan’s Candy Bar Re-Treat at Sephora

How exciting! I just noticed Sephora is now carrying Dylan’s Candy Bar Re-Treat!

I’ve been to Dylan’s a few times as we have one here in the city and it’s truly quite a funky, fun experience! The line includes, obviously, candy, accessories, and bath and body goodies with a candy/foody theme!

The only items that Sephora are carrying are the Bath and Body items but that’s still pretty cool as the line is quite fun and it’s not too badly priced either.

Although I love the idea that Sephora has brought the brand in I am highly doubtful it will remain for long and I picture it ending up 50% off in 6 months to a year. As we know, think Jessica Simpson’s Dessert line, candy and food theme Bath and Body items and perfumes do not do well at Sephora. The only line that has successfully fit into this niche market would be Philosophy with the Three in One Shower Gels that are so popular with the Muse and the masses!

I imagine that Dylan’s Candy Bar Re-Treat is taking the place of Sugar Cosmetics who’s demise is currently happening at Sephora as all of it is marked down 50%!

I suspect we’ll see a few more new brands make an appearance as the Holiday sets in and January closes in. I don’t see a slew of new brands popping up but maybe two or three from now up till January!

Which is good news as it’ll mean more sales for us!

Anyway……more about Dylan’s…..

Dylan’s Candy Bar Re-Treat consists of a body scrubs, lotions, shower gels, and other candy and food scented bath and body treats!

Some of the items popping up on Sephora are:

Dylan’s Candy Bar Re-Treat Coconut Bon Bon Collection Prices Range from $8-$22 USD

C19751 hero

Strawberry Licorice Soda Pop Shower Gel $16 USD
sg

Candy Lip Saver Stackable Lip Balm $30 USD
lios

Birthday Cake Batter Candy Butter Cream $22 USD
cakebatter

I personally haven’t tried anything from Dylan’s aside from the candy hehe but now that the bath and body line has hit Sephora you can count the Muse curious! I love really sweet candy, foody scents so this completely appeals to me!

I may check it out!

How about you?

Love candy scents?

Curious about this line?

Bath and Body Works Holiday Collection 2008

Bath and Body Works has a little sneak peek up of it’s Holiday Collection and I’m actually quite excited about the offerings myself!

Many of the Lambie items offered last year are back this year and I’ll definately be adding a majority of these to my both my own wish list and gift list for friends and family! I was happy to see the revised the Sweetest, Softest Blanket from last year which they have placed a little Lambie emblem on it! So cute! I purchased the Sweetest, Softest Blanket last year and was very happy with it, I’ll definately be indulging in the latest one! This year they also wrapped the blanket up in a beautiful gift giving box! The blanket is $35 USD and possibly the best money you’ll ever spend on such a luxuriously warm blanket, it’s perfect for snuggling on the couch to watch DVD’s or for extra warmth during chilly winter nights! The blanket is available in white or black. Last year I recall wanting to wait to purchase my Sweetest, Softest Blanket till the Semi-Annual Sale and I’m honestly glad I didn’t as they sold out quite quickly towards the middle of December so I highly suggest nabbing this quickly!

Last year when I blogged about the Lambie slippers I got SO many emails asking me about them and it’s no wonder why as they are truly cute! These are available in two styles, a full slipper and a sock slipper. The sock slipper was extremely limited at one time but this past Summer I’ve seen them slowly appear back in shops but I predict both the slippers and the socks will sell out very quickly just like the blanket so do nab them early if you want them!

lambie+slippers

The slipper socks are a value at $10 USD and come in two colors this year!

The Lambie slippers have been revised lightly with a raised heel that allows the slipper to hug your entire foot. I like this new version as last year I had a little problem with the slipper turning inward! It’s about time for a new pair so I’ll definately be indulging! These are $16 USD and I believe a bit cheaper from last year as I recall paying more but I could be wrong!

The Bath and Body line up isn’t full up and available as of yet but I did come across a few pieces for the Holiday! I’m a sucker for Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint so I was quite excited they extended the scent to the hand soap! I’ll definately be stocking up this! These are $5 USD each and are available in all the traditional Bath and Body Works Holiday scents such as Winter Candy Apple and Vanilla Bean Noel!

One item that didn’t really catch my eye are the new Bath and Body Works Glittering Shower Gels for $11 USD. I’m somewhat bored with the typical scents they release year after year which are Winter Candy Apple and Vanilla Bean Noel! I may indulge in a Twisted Peppermint one however “glittering” shower gel doesn’t seem like something I’d love! Shimmer and glitter in my makeup items, yes, but not in my shower!

shower+gel

You can see more of the Bath and Body Works Holiday Collection 2008 by taking a look at the sneak peek on their website!

A few items so far have definately caught my eye and of course the Lambie items are on my wishy list for sure! I look forward to seeing what else is released for the upcoming season! I’m super disappointed that Bath and Body Works has successfully eliminated the Temptations Collection from both it’s Fall and Holiday Collections, I doubt these will be back ever. The items I’ve featured are available for purchase now online and I’m pretty sure stores must be stocking them too shortly! I haven’t been inside a BBW in a few weeks now but I’m pretty sure they busy stocking these up already or will be soon!

Want any of the BBW Holiday selections?

Love ‘em?

Love the Lambie Collection as much as your Muse?

Harajuku Lovers Fragrance Review

If you haven’t yet been exposed to Gwen Stefani’s new Harajuku Lovers Fragrances you must be leaving under a rock!

These things are everywhere, literally.

The fragrances have amazing Internet exposure and can be found at many high end counters across the line. I’m really impressed with the huge marketing campaign these have! Whoever is on the marketing team deserves a great big pat on the back for really getting the line exposed and out there!

I’m particularly delighted that these are appearing on popular sites like youTube, mySpace, Flickr, etc…..If you’re a beauty blogger you can really appreciate the fact that the marketing has extended itself to such a vast electronic market. Granted websites are one thing but youTube, mySpace, and even Facebook are quite another!

You can find any and all information you can possibly want on Harajuku Lovers Fragrance at the following locations:

Harajuku Lovers MySpace

Harajuku Lovers YouTube
Harajuku Lovers Flickr
Harajuku Lovers Facebook
Harajuku Lovers Official Website

I admit I spent way too much time on the website yesterday watching the user created karaoke videos and contemplating making my own. Guilty!

I’ve only officially tested out one of the fragrances and the rest I have tester cards for so I can’t review too completely on all the scents however I did head to my local Nordstrom and had a peek and decided I must haves them all! The Muse loves any and all Asian aspired goodies (my blog can attest to that I’m sure) and these are under my radar now so I’m definately buying one of each. After all, you can’t just have one! They’ll get lonely if they aren’t together! It’s a group thing!

Picture+034

I read a few negative reviews but I honestly only have positive things to say about the collection. The scents are very girlish which appeals to me in a major way as I really like lighter, sweeter scents. Each perfume comes topped with a cute little Harajuku girl which adds to the charm and appeal of collecting all of them! The line up consists of five different scents each a new and different experience.

I’ve been wearing ‘Lil’ Angel for the last several days and loving it. Although at first whiff the fragrance does have a rather strong alcohol scent this does not carry out onto your skin. Dry down is a beautiful blend of raspberry as the dominant note and moves forward with a combination of fruit and floral to create a fresh, sweet smell on the skin. In consideration that this is an Eau de Toilette I was delighted that it had considerable long wear and lasted about six hours prior to needing a fresh up. In my experience that’s pretty good wear for an EDT.

Picture+033

Picture+035

Picture+036

Although I’m not a big lover of florals I think Love was beautiful. It’s a light floral scent that’s a cocktail of roses, peony, and other softer notes with a base of musk. Love appealed to my girly side in a major way!

Picture+032

Baby is a powdery musk with top notes of white rose and a soft white musk base. Her name contributes to what she smells like, a baby! Very powdery, fresh, girlish, and sweet! This definately appeals to my inner child!

Picture+029

Although Music is a delicate floral blend it happens to very fun as well with a top base of pear and a base of musk and vanilla! It’s my second favorite of the five and really appeals to the fun side of my personality!

Picture+030

And finally G! G is a tropical blend of fresh coconut and cream that can only be described as fruity and lively! This is another favorite of mine. I love tropical blends and this definately brings that to the table but also pushes it further with notes of Cotton Woods and Freesia!

Picture+031

The scents are all really fun and I’ll be indulging in all five for myself. I can’t help but approved ‘em for purchase as they are too adorable to resist! You know what would be seriously awesome…if Gwen extended her line of fragrances and couture and brought in some cosmetics…that would be awesome! I’d be all over that like white on rice!

Orange Cranberry, Pink Bubbly, and Snicker-Doodle to name a few! I’m particularly curious how Pink Bubbly will smell considering how much I simply ADORE the original Bubbly!

New flavors of Philosophy Lip Shines are available as well including S’mores and Holiday Angel! I have my eye on Holiday Angel which tastes like Angel Food Cake! Yums!

Lush Godmother Soap Review

Sunday night I headed to Soho Apple to visit a friend who works there and catch some really late dinner. While waiting for my mate I decided I’d visit with Lush Soho too! Although I’m not a big lover of Lush stores within the US I decided meh why not!

I’m somewhat reserved about purchasing items from Lush stores do to a million other people handling the items. Can you say gross? Another reason I’m not particularly fond of Lush stores are because the items, to me, aren’t nearly as fresh as what I can get from Lush UK Mail Order.

However, I can’t resist walking into a Lush shop each and every time I see one. During this particular visit I couldn’t resist replenishing my dwindling stock of Lush Godmother soap. Since my original orders from Lush UK Mail Order consists of a huge bulk of products I decided I’d have to wait to get more Godmother however since I was in a Lush shop already, right here, convenient as you please in the city I seriously couldn’t resist getting something!

I happily purchased a nice size chunk that cost me $12.83 USD and I quickly sliced it up when I got home making it into six hunks of yummy goodness for my shower and beside my sinks for washing my hands up!

I can’t resist the beautiful candy like scent of Godmother! It’s vanilla with touches of pink, it’s girly, pure and simple! This seriously has to be what pink smells like!

If you haven’t yet tried Godmother, run now, get it! It’s an identical scent as Snow Fairy and since Snow Fairy doesn’t come around until Christmas no waiting is involved and instant gratification can be yours with Lush Godmother soap.

The Muse Approves Lush Godmother in a major way! If you’re girly, you NEED girly soap! Godmother is simply girly period.
