Last week the Muse was busy dialing Jenny’s number but she can stop all that now and dial the new Avon Spectra Lash Mascara up for a good time! It’s probably easier as Jenny hasn’t been answering since 1983, the Muse suspects she isn’t as hot as she once was.
You know you so want technology like this! Mascara with a built in dial that dials up to three to intensify your mascara experience. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are so cranky they didn’t come up with this incredible concept before Avon!
Supposedly Avon Spectra Lash dials up 8x fuller lashes with just three clicks, the Muse thinks it’s easier than dialing 867-5309, I’m kinda lazy, three numbers is easier than seven. The question remains does it work.
Ummm actually yes kinda it does! It’s a bit gimmicky yes but that doesn’t take away from the fact that’s it’s a decent mascara with a great price tag. Hello $6 USD mascara it’s good to meet you, let’s be BFF in this scary economy, I’ll even let you hold my hand!
So the gimmick would be the dial but technically speaking since the dial does sorta work maybe it’s not a gimmick. Dialing 1 will get you full lashes, dialing two gives you fuller lashes, and dialing three gets you oh my god fullest lashes. I’ve no idea the technical side of this innovative, crazy cool dial but I suspect by twisting the dial you’re compressing the tube somehow and it gets you more or less mascara on your brush which in turn creates the fuller or less fuller look to lashes. In simple terms the mascara simply adds more or less mascara to the brush to create fuller lashes.
The overall formula is quite good with a nice inky formula. It’s waterproof and has nice long wear. It doesn’t keep curl particularly well but it does a great job of creating fuller, longer, thicker lashes when dialed up to three. I prefer the mascara stay dialed to three for the best results as 1 and 2 give my lashes a rather whimpy look but dialed to three they look nice and plump. However, you do have to be careful as this setting puts quite an excess of product on the brush which could cause clumping when applied. Be sure to curl prior to use and brush on slowly at first to avoid a clumpy look. I took three photos so you can see the difference each time I used the mascara with a different dial. I also took photos of the brush dialed on different settings.
All in all I think for the price Avon Spectra Lash Mascara performs quite well. Available in four shades for a $6 USD price tag makes it a nice Beauty on a Budget purchase. It’s worth checking out for the price as it performs quite well plus you get the novelty of whipping it out of your purse and showing your friends how you can dial your mascara….whoa…the coolness is just too much for this Muse!

I’m not particularly excited about E.L.F Candy Shop Lip Tins, I just wanted an excuse to play this song.
Ok, maybe I am kinda sorta digging the fact that E.L.F has these cute little lip tins filled with candy flavored lip balm but I won’t approve of the $2 USD price tag! What the hell happened to dollar makeup? It’s not fair to charge inflated prices E.L.F! For shame!
Available in Coconut, Frosting, Mocha, Melon, Candy, Berry, and Cherry there’s a little something sweet for everyone.
Steal yourself a beauty budget trio of Vintage Sister Lip Balms all housed in a cute little tin.
If you’re more sour than sweet this set is sure to please!
$12 USD (plus a mere $1.85 USD for shipping) will get you three of Vintage Sister’s cult favorite lip balms all housed in a cute sliding tin. Each balm brings both the sour and the sweet!
The Muse is all for golden oldies which is why she’s been a big Vintage Sister fan for years now. Their uber cute balms bring back the childhood memories of cute lip balms I used to tote around with me when I was a mere girl. The set includes three flavors all of which are housed in retro style sliding tins. Slide the tin back to reveal a heavy moisturizing balm that’s dosed with plenty of of good taste or in this case plenty of sour to make your lips curl up in a puckering pout!
The set includes Sour Cherry, Sour Lime, and Sour Pink Lemonade. Sour Cherry is a pink transparent balm that tastes and smells like the real thing. Plenty of cherry with just the right tart sweetness that’s sure to please. Sour Lime has plenty of lime flavor with a bit of a fizz a la 7up or Sprite but it also has that tart, sour kick! Sour Pink Lemonade isn’t too sour but has plenty of sweet sugary lemon that will remind you of a warm Summer day!
Vintage Sister balms have a hard texture but once warmed up they’ll glide onto lips and leave behind plenty of shine. They’ll heal up chapped lips and keep lips moist all while tasting and smelling delicious!
Vintage Sister Puck Up Lip Balm Set is a personal favorite of mine and a great beauty budget pick!
I know, I know this may shock your socks near off your feet but I recently tried out the new HIP Metallic Duo Eyeshadow…and…I loved it! Eep! Unreal right? But I promise they are awesome.
HIP has three finishes now on it’s shadow duos, the newest is the metallic finish which the Muse is quite fond of at the moment. The new HIP Metallic Duo Eyeshadows come only in five shades, sniff can’t we have more? And are all under $8 bucks each! Oh, hello friendly budget deal!
I tried out the HIP Metallic Duo Eyeshadow in Platinum recently and was feeling the love. I do think they are way easier to blend than previous versions of HIP shadows I’ve tried plus they are loaded with pigment and have an intense shimmery, metallic finish.
If you haven’t tried ‘em already here’s the deets:
Each duo contains a matte shadow and a shimmery metallic shadow. Use the metallic shadow to shade your eye and follow up with the matte shadow to either contrast or line eyes with. Personally I used the matte shade very lightly to contrast the metallic shadow but lining works just as well. The compact of the shadow is simply awesome, props for cool packaging. It’s a dual sided compact which houses the shadows on top and a sponge applicator and mirror on the bottom.
As I mentioned above both shades of shadow blend wonderfully well with a great color pay off. I was shocked as I’ve tried HIP shadows before and felt they blended crummy but I chalk up the formula this time around which makes them way easier to blend although you’ll definitely experience major fall out so prep well prior to applying to avoid the drama of shimmer falling everywhere on your face.
The color I tried out was Platinum which contains an intensely shimmering shade of silver with a matte shade of black. The two shades make a rather dramatic smoky eye look. The completed look is quite similar to what you could achieve using the Bare Minerals Rocker Kit at a fraction of the cost!
These are worth checking out if you like a highly shimmery, metallic finish to your shadows. Getting two shades in one compact for under $8 USD (or less if a sale is going on) is truly a nice little deal. The only rant I have about the product is the lack of colors. I’m hopeful they’ll extend the HIP Metallic Duo Eye Shadow collection with as many colors as the normal range of HIP shadows as these are a rather nice little gem in a sea of drugstore cosmetics.
Sportin’ HIP Metallic Duo Eyeshadow in Platinum
Overall, HIP Metallic Duo Eyeshadow are worth a look at. Definitely a nice little beauty on the budget find!
The Muse is terribly partial to body care that comes housed in sweet little Victoria bottles and jars. She’s a big fan of expensive British soaps, lotions, and potions such as Lady Primrose that caters not only to quality but also beautiful packaging. Victorian packaging is perhaps long dead for some but I’m a big lover of anything that’s sports a feminine, pretty package. Most of these items are costly but not the case with Lollia which not only gives a beautiful presentation to it’s product but also offers a quality product with a tiny price tag. And most important it’s made in the USA so you don’t have to trip across Europe so snag yourself some!
Pretty, cheap, and quality? What more could a girl possibly want!
Allow me, if I may, to introduce you to Lollia’s Newest Collection Guest Haus. These tiny petite treats were created by designer Margot Elena Wells. the Guest Haus Collection acknowledges the special guest that comes to visit for an evening or a long weekend or perhaps just for a simple cuppa tea. The Muse’s tea party guests always go home with a goody bag so the Lollia Guest Haus Collection would be the perfect little take home treat.
At $12.50 USD you won’t break the bank making your vanity pretty (or making your guest room vanity pretty if you’re feeling the need to share! No pressure you don’t have too as these are too cute to just give away!) with these sweet petite glass jars of Lollia Body Milk. Each glass jar houses a lush, moisturizing lotion that you can use on hands or on your body.
Lollia Body Milk contains a healthy about of shea butter for making hands and body super smooth with it’s quick absorbing formula but most important it’ll make you smell really pretty. Available in Mint Julep and Geraldine and Tonic you might as well get both for the price as the scents are lovely!
Lollia Body Milk in Mint Julep smells like a sweet vanilla buttermint candy, you know like the ones you slip into your mouth after dinner. The scent lingers on and on so you won’t be able to stop smelling your hands after use! Yum! Lollia Grenadine & Tonic Body Milk smells has a fresh floral scent with a nice twang of tonic that lightens up the scent and morphs it into something unique!
Forsaking luxury because of price doesn’t have to be an option with Lollia’s inexpensive Bath and Body Collection! Lollia Guest Haus Body Milk Petite Treats are gorgeous little treasures that will fit right into the palm of your hand and oh yes most important your beauty budget without breaking the bank.
Snag a few to give away at your tea parties, stash some in your guest bedrooms and bathrooms, give some to a special friend as a little treat, and most important spoil yourself with one or two!
