Just so you know I’ve always been a self proclaimed lover of shimmer and sparkle. I find absolutely nothing wrong with that either nor will I apologize for. Bring on the disco glitter baby!
I am trying to mend my ways. Shimmer is much like alcohol one needs a support group and a step program to help with the addiction.
Until I can get myself off the shimmer kick I’ve been on for the past 150 years of my life I’ll go ahead and indulge my need for intensely pigmented shimmery shades of shadow from my latest Beauty Discovery, Obsessed Minerals.
Check it after the jump.
Obsessed Minerals carries a large range of mineral powders, shadows, lip products, etc….one item I’m partial to are their pressed mineral eye shadows. First off they have a wide range of color variety in the pressed format for a mere $10 bucks…hello inexpensive makeup! If that isn’t enough they also take anything from there normal range of loose mineral eye shadow and will press it for you for an extra dollar, is that not the coolest thing ever? God, I wish more companies would do that as the chore of pressing piggies, as we established already, is not a job I relish!
The shadows are loosely packed presses which makes the formula into this creamy powdery texture. This formula in fact makes them very easy to blend and wear. The colors are all richly pigmented and about one swipe with get you extreme color pay off. They aren’t what I would call pretty packaging wise or formula wise but the quality is there that’s for sure. The shadows are quite easy to work with aside from a tiny bit of fall out but proper prepping and priming will ease the way. I tried three shades total and I must say for $10 bucks it’s a real steal. The shades all work well wet or dry.
The shades I tried were Gotcha, Wanderlust, and Pagan. These all have an intense shimmer finish. Gotcha is a pretty copper penny shade, Wanderlust is a dirty gold, and Pagan is a sparkling royal purple. My swatches below are one swipe, one single swipe. As you can see they are seriously pigmented shadows!
The inexpensive price tag and ability to request loose shades be pressed make Obsessed Minerals a unique beauty discovery. I love the idea of browsing loose shades of pigment and have the option of someone else slaving over a press for me. Overall, Obsessed Minerals is worthy of a check out.
Loving all over it!

Long ago I introduced you to Black Phoenix Alchemist Lab
and my slight obsession with the brand. I’m still quite in love with BPAL but I discovered Arcana a few years ago and it’s since been as desirable as BPAL.
If you love perfume oils, Arcana will be a fab beauty discovery for you. Jump ahead to learn more.
Why perfume oil?
Perfume Oils are enriched with a heavy dose of fragrant oil making them stronger and long wearing. When blended correctly they allow for a greater throw and linger than regular perfume or toilettes. Oils are normally sold in 5-10ML bottles due to the nature of the product and expense. A little goes a long well so a smaller size will last you a very long time.
If you like a little bit of a Gothic romantic Victorian packaging Arcana perfume oils are sure to please. Housed in a small 5ml alchemist bottle with aged yellowing labels they look quite old worldly. Available in a variety of scents that are rotated constantly with limited edition scents these are truly little treasures that are easy to become addicted to.
I decided to do a Beauty Discovery on Arcana as I recently ordered a few new blends for my collection and also felt that so many people are probably missing out on the joys of perfume oil especially such unique blends as the ones Arcana creates.
Two delightful scents I hauled recently are Arcana Poison Candy Perfume and Underpinnings. At $14.95 per a 5ml bottle these are a tad more costly than the normal bottles which are $7.95. The uniquely high ingredient costs push the price a little higher but truly it’s well worth it as the throw and linger on each is incredible.
Poison Candy comes housed in green alchemist bottle much like what…well…what poison might come in. With a aged yellow tag embellished with a creepy little coffin indeed ones does worry how poisonous this candy could be! But one sniff and you’ll realize that poison never smelled so good. Ripe strawberries, rich cream, cinnamon, sugar, and honey make up a unique foody scent that smells quite like some sort of rich, decadent cake. Wonderful!
Velvet Underpinnings also priced high at $11.95 contains ingredients that are unique and high in cost but again well worthy of the extra few dollars as the scent lingers long and has great throw. Made up of chocolate, sweet cream, vanilla, sugars, spice, and everything nice, these Underpinnings are good enough to flaunt.
With a wide variety of fragrances available and an ever evolving catalog of limited edition fragrances, Arcana has my vote for a great way to indulge in small amounts of unique and interesting blends of fragrance.

I just discovered Phoenix Cosmetics today. Never heard of the brand prior to this but it looks promising!
Jump for it!
At 21 years old Phoenix Renata has done what many of us dream about doing, she created her own cosmetic range and owns two boutique stores in Auckland.
Although the line is not incredibly extensive what I did see looked promising. Packaging wise it’s very standard but products seem pigmented and if Phoenix’s makeup is anything to go by (above photo) I could get on board with such a fresh, fun look.
One item in particular that caught my eye was the Phoenix Cosmetics Pixie Shimmer Powder available in 7 shades looks like it will make a rather nice blusher!
Although not available globally, Phoenix promises that it could happen soon according to her interview at Mind Food. I’m waiting when it does…!
The Muse recently discovered Philip B products and just had to share the joy! Philip B has an extensive line of products that cater to all parts of the body including hands, face, and hair. No spot left behind here peeps! I’ve been test driving a few bits from the line out this past week and I can honestly say I’m in love, with Philip B,
hello gorgeous wanna go out sometime?
Oh wait sorry I did also mean the products, honest. Like the Philip B Hand and Body Creme, hello soft skin!
Jump head for the good word!
The Muse loves products that are multitasking. Take for example the Philip B Hand & Body Creme. W00t! Simplify my moisturizing experience and I’ll heart you forever. One product that I can use on my hands or my body. Loves it!
I tried our two of the hand & body cremes available one of which was the Philip B Cucumber & Blue Orchid Creme. Enriched with cucumber, vitamins A, B5, and E this one is fully loaded to tighten and strengthen your skin. Blue Orchid gives this interesting hand and body lotion a slightly floral smell but there is no question that the cool, crispness of cucumber definitely dominates here. The formula absorbs quickly and gives skin a nice, cool drink to keep it moist and nourished!
I also tried out Philip B Lovin’ Hand & Body Creme which happens to be my favorite simply because for some odd reason or another it reminds me of McLovin’
I dunno must be my weird and twisted mind, my mind works in mysterious ways. But anyway! This one is a shea butter and coconut oil mix which is enriched with vitamins E and B5. I like this one best simply because it smells so lovely, not what you’d think McLovin’ would smell like by the very way. It’s quite crisp with a hint of green, fresh and floral-like. This is a tiny bit heavier when compared to the Cucumber and Blue Orchid Creme which could be it’s base of shea butter so it’s rather ideal for dry, chapped skin, pretty much perfect for me as my skin could use the extra McLovin’ after the harsh winter! Likey!
All in all I think Philip B makes a rather great beauty discovery! The Muse never tried before and she’s liking what she’s trying so far. Next on my list is to get me some of that Philip B Chocolate Milk Body Creme, whoa!

The Muse introduced you to Villainess in her Beauty Discover post
a few days ago. She did so promise reviews of the products featured in that post and today she brings you a tale of Villainess Datura Slick a gentle oil based eye makeup and congested pore cleanser.
I’m always on the look out for a right proper eye makeup remover. I currently use Sephora Waterproof Remover which is $8 USD. I love, love Lancome Bi-Facil but it’s a bit too rich for my blood. Of course, when I seen this tiny bottle of Datura Slick I was terribly curious to see how it would do. Considering what a tiny bottle it was for $10 USD I expected miracles.
Miracles didn’t happen….
Villainess Datura Slick! performs a dual function by whisking away eye makeup plus promising to cleanse congested pores. As far as eye makeup remover goes it doesn’t do so great a job.
The formula is a slick oil that has a natural herbal scent. It contains rosehip oil, jojoba oil, castor, grapeseed, cherry kernal oil, and a slew of other good for you skin ingredients. To use you can saturate a cotton pad or a piece of tissue and wipe makeup clean or rub the solution on your eyes with a finger tip to break up eye makeup. The Muse tried out both ways, once with a cotton pad and once with a finger tip. Although it did a good job of whisking away my shadow it left behind all my waterproof mascara. Epic fail there. I was pretty disappointed to say the least as I just assumed for some reason that it’s small size and it’s rather large price tag meant that it was some sort of industrial cleaning solution that would get off everything in a flash. The price tag and the size make me cringe since it’s promise of clearing away eye makeup fails so epically.
As for decongestanting pores I couldn’t say as my pores aren’t blocked but it does make a decent oil cleanser however I can get a bigger size with a better price tag.
I do give props to it’s interesting formula which is considerably more oily than a normal oil cleanser. This extra thickness and oil-feel makes the product very moisturizing. It rinses clean away as well which is always a plus.
The descriptions reads that it’s organic ingredients will smooth away fine lines and wrinkles, softens pore blockages, draws out impurities, repairs tissue, and relives tension and facial rigor.
Hmmm sounds like a miracle but sadly it’s just a ho-hum expensive cleansing oil that doesn’t do the simplest of things like..cleanse..duh!
Kinda of a disappointment to say the least. If you’re visiting with Villainess skip Datura SLick! No likey!
