Well…you either loved ManishArora for MAC or you hated it, there wasn’t any in between that I’ve seen around the Internet this week!
I happen to fall into the absolutely in love, thrilled to pieces, simply adore this collection category!
This is the type of collection that sits up and screams my name with it’s bold shades of shadow, outrageous colors of blush, and vibrant glosses and lipsticks! Love, love, love!
If you hate it, I truly can’t begin to understand why but I absolutely love it and slap a big Muse Approval on it!
The packaging is truly beautiful on this collection with it’s Indian inspired swirls, hearts, and sparkle. It has a certain Hindi feel to it that’s masked in the colors and design! MAC went with a subtle neon orange for the blush compacts, a gold and pink for the palette with jewel encrusted hearts on the top, a darker hue of orange for the lipstick tubes, and yellow for the lipglasses. The designs are all etched and printed on without any stickers to peel off a la Fafi! Thank god for that! I simply love the beautiful golden swirls topped with multi-colored hearts! I’m particularly partial to the compact with it’s little jeweled hearts. It’s difficult to pick what my favorite items are in this collection as everything is beyond beautiful.
I highly recommend this collection for darker skin tones as the shades are so intense and vibrant they are sure to flatter a deeper tone!
The blushes in the collection are Pink Swoon and Devil. Out of the two Devil is absolutely, positively my favorite! Devil is a fiery, bold orange that gives me cheeks a nice pop of peachy color that can be worn sheer or built up for a deeper finish. Although some may be scared of such a vibrant orange shade, the Muse is no stranger to such a color. Devil is comparable to other pieces in my collection such as NARS Blush in Taos and ShuUemura Blush in P Orange 58D (I’m working with Shu to get those crazy numbers and letters turned into names! Sheesh!).
NARS, MAC, and Shu Blushes
Pink Swoon was surprisingly low key after the shock of Devil! I haven’t yet tried it but I’m preparing myself to be disappointed as it’s a very true pink that swatched quite sheer however after a few strokes I did manage to build the color up so I’m keeping hope alive that it’ll be equally easy to get the desired intensity on my cheeks!
When presented with the lipsticks from ManishArora of course the first one to catch my eye was Kiss Manish! Ahhhhhhhhh it’s perfection! The second I seen it I could only think one thing, Pink Grapefruit Lipglass! This was the ideal color to pair up with my very favorite lipglass color! Kiss Manish is a beautifully deep coral shade with touches of peach and orange. If you’re looking for an interesting alternative you might want to try Avon Lipstick in Rose Charm as I thought the finish was a good dupe although Kiss Manish is a bit deeper.
The second lipstick released, Girl About Town, is a deep fuchsia which is quite wearable when compared to other fuchsias I’ve run across from MAC. I actually like the way this looks on and when paired with Pink ManishLipglass you get a rather nice look!
It’s probably obvious that out of the two MAC Lipglasses released with ManishArora, Shine Manish is my favorite. This is a marriage most wonderful when paired up with MAC Lipstick in Kiss Manish! The color is slightly lighter than kiss Manish but manages to keep that intense fiery orange color that made Kiss Manish such a hit for me!
MAC Lipglass in Pink Manish is a true pink that’s not quite fuchsia in my opinion. It has a small dose of sheer shimmer and pairs up beautiful well with Girl About Town!
And finally the Pièce de Résistance, the MAC Manish Arora Palette! This shouldn’t be appealing to me as it contains quite a few matte shades however I forgive MAC for the matte since they also included some rather nice shimmery shades as well! I likely have almost all these shades already but I’m a sucker for beautiful compacts!
Shades included are:
Nylon (Why is Nylon looking more beautiful in this palette?)
Going Bananas (Released with C-Shock)
The colors are much more vibrant than these swatches you see! I was just being overprotective with my palette and not pressing hard!
Overall, the collection was a winner for me! I’m particularly pleased with MAC Lipstick in Kiss Manish, MAC Blush in Devil, MAC Lipglass in Shine Manish, and the beautiful palette!
Call me a fan girl, call me a groupie, but I personally think MAC did a nice job with this collection and it’s Muse Approved for purchase!
Please keep in mind this may be sold out online but as I mentioned in a prior post it officially sells at MAC North Robertson and MAC Soho tomorrow morning as of 11AM so call early to reserve! I got a bit busy today and didn’t get a chance to call about shipping so I’ll try to do so tomorrow and let you know!
I don’t yet have face of the day looks using any of this but will group some together shortly so you can see the collection at work!
The Muse is a happy camper now that she has Manish Arora in her possession!
So you have dark circles? Got a bit less sleep then you’d like?
No problem-o! The Muse has you covered.
Have you tried Cargo Eyelighter?
Totally perfect solution for the days your eyes need a wakeup call on the double!
I recently tested out a few Cargo Eyelighters and fell pretty in love with ‘em! I purposely withheld using these on days I got plenty of rest however, like this morning for example when I’m working on three hours of sleep, I decided to dive right in to see how well Cargo Eyelighter banished my dark circles, puffy eyes, and the general sleep deprived droopy eye look I had going on!
And I’m here to tell the tale that indeed they do a damn fine job of waking up tired, sleepy eyes and offering a refreshed, awake appearance.
What are these things anyway Muse?
These are simply a dual sided eyeshadow pencil that contains a matte side of shadow on one end and a shimmery shadow on the other. The matte side of the pencil is used on the outer corner of your eye and highbrow while the shimmery side is used on the inner corner of the eye. The effect is a brightening, lightening, wide, awake appearance. Although the package suggests using the shadows on outer and inner corners, I took the liberal to line my lower lash line with the matte end and add a bit of the shimmery side as a highlight to my eye…the effect is the same..a wider, naturally bare look that’s both beautiful and refreshing.
Does it banish dark circles completely?
No, absolutely not. However, it successfully reflects off of dark shadows and creates a more awake appearance. Yes, you’ll absolutely still need concealer but this and concealer create a rather perfect, awake eye look!
This are ideal for travel or quick touch ups as the product is complete and you don’t have to tug around anything extra with you. The shadows are housed inside the cap of the applicator, simply twist, remove the applicator and it’ll already be saturated with color. Apply, done, AWAKE!
I think part of it’s major appeal would be the fact that it adds a natural elegance to my eye area. For someone who prefers bolder eye shadows it’s a rather nice break from vibrant and intense..to just..fresh, natural, and beautiful.
I personally loved the finished results on this and will be purchasing these again when I run out. If you watch Gossip Girl you might notice that Blake Lively always has a touch of shimmering white or gold in the inner corners of her eye, the results are pretty much the same as what you see on her although in my case I definately do NOT look like Blake Lively hehe!
The two shades I tried were Gold and Pink, Pink happens to be a new shade addition for Fall. This is also available in White which I’m dying to try out so I ordered it from Sephora last week and will bring you an updated review about it shortly!
All in all I liked this alot and I’m approving them for purchase. I like the idea of a single item that I can tote around with me for quick, on the go touch ups for wider, more awake eyes, I love the finished results of going from sleepy to wow in a few quick swipes and I simply adore the naturally beautiful look these create!
If you’re looking for something simple, easy to use, and works well enough at giving you that 12 hours of sleep you truly DIDN’T have…these are for you!
It’s not too difficult to fall in love with the Guerlain Holiday Collection 2008 entitled Midnight Butterfly.
Over the years I never fail to fall deeply in love with the holiday collection from Guerlain and this year is absolutely no different from years prior as Guerlain releases a perfectly stunning collection filled with elegant, beautiful, and highly collectible pieces.
While last year concentrated on gold this year Guerlain took on silver and purple, two colors, in my opinion, that clash wonderfully well together. Although I don’t associate purple with the Holidays I must say that Guerlain took purple and owned it. Pairing softer lilac, with a darker purple and touches of silver and gold create a pure perfection for a Holiday face!
Although I’d have liked to indulge in the entire collection of beautiful items I concentrated on nabbing some of the more important pieces in the collection such as the eye palette, mascara, meteorites, and radiant powder.
None of the lip items appealed to me thankfully however my eye was caught and captured by the $160 USD Guerlain Meteorites Pressed Powder in Radiant Butterfly. Truly it was a stunning powder but honestly at $160 USD it was way, way above what I’d have liked to spend on a compact!
I was both saddened and disappointed that Guerlain has raised its prices this year. One item in particular, the Guerlain Sublime Radiant Powder, costing $82 USD compared to $78 USD last year. The powder wasn’t the only price raise, other items were effected by a higher cost this year as well.
Aside from the minor disappointment of raised prices the collection has absolutely nothing to not love in it! All the items are luxe, posh and a pure, spoiled indulgence for the Holiday!
Of course, my very favorite item in the collection is the Guerlain Sublime Radiant Powder. This is a atomizer of fine, sparkling silver powder. Stunning both inside and out this powder is perfect for face or body! This is housed in a slick, feminine, vanity worthy perfume style bottle with a lilac butterfly attached. The butterfly is detachable and has a pin on the back so you can use it a as a cute accessory to a suit or a shirt. Last year I purchased a back up of Forever Gold but this year I was a bit more reserved and only indulged in one of the powders. I’m still debating with myself if I should go back for a second since the collection is so very limited!
The Guerlain Eyeshadow Palette in Mysterious Butterfly is my second favorite item in the collection. Consisting of four shadows at $57 USD this item was not effected by the price raise thankfully and still remains the same price as last year. The palette has two shades of contrasting purple shadow, one liner shadow, and a highlighting shade. The two main shades are a sheer lilac and a dark aubergine. A bright gold is included to highlight with and a purple brownish shade is used for lining the eyes. The four shades make up the design of a fine silver butterfly. Sadly, the butterfly almost instantly disappears upon smoothing your applicator on it however the touches of silver mixed with the shadow creates a rather nice sparkling effect. The shadows are housed in a slick, lilac compact so the outside is just as stunning as the shadows. The shadows are all smooth and silky however don’t expect a dramatic eye look using these, Guerlain keeps it simple and elegant with a touch of sheer color that has a tiny touch of sparkle.
The star of the Guerlain Midnight Butterfly collection would have to be the Meteorites. In comparison to last year the pearls are three times bigger in size which makes for easier application. Although last year’s version had touches of shimmer, this year the pearls have a matte, silky powder finish. The color is a universally flattering champagne shade that brightens and lightens to complextion while setting makeup and creating a nice glow to the face. I love the larger size this year as it makes the application super easy and mess free, the container is twice the size as normal Meteorites. In keeping with the lilac theme the Meteorites are housed in a lilac container with the emblem of a butterfly on top. The size wasn’t the only item that became inflated this year, the cost of the Meteorites raised from $51 USD to $65 USD which was a considerable raise in price compared to previous years.
My final purchase was the Guerlain ‘Le 2 de Guerlain’ Mascara in Butterfly Sparkle. For the most part this purchase was spurred from the gorgeous packaging however ‘Le 2 de Guerlain’ is a fine mascara as I already own the gold version and I’m very happy with it. The mascara is a dual sided affair which allows for application of upper and lower lashes. The upper part of the mascara is black while the lower end is purple with a tiny bit of silver. Lining the lower part of your lashes with the purple and the upper with the black reflects beautifully off an eye look created using the Guerlain Eyeshadow Palette in Mysterious Butterfly!
Right now, faced with an economical crisis, Guerlain Midnight Butterfly is not exactly the first collection you may have your eye due to it’s high cost however the Muse is approving it for purchase as it’s a stunning Holiday Collection! It has some highly collectible pieces in the collection for the makeup connoisseur or the makeup junkie. Face with so many options for the Holiday Season it’s difficult to choose which items are stash and which are trash! In the Muse’s opinion Guerlain’s Holiday Collection 2008 is a stash item! Truly an outstanding job on this one Guerlain! The Muse loves it!
I did a quickie look this morning using everything in the collection! I fear it didn’t come out as well as I wanted to as I was rushed for time today but it’s not too bad.
How about you?
