Random babblings that have nothing to do with cosmetics ahead!
I’m a PBS geek (or maybe I’m just an Anglophile. I haven’t decided yet!).
I know can you believe I admitted it out loud? I’m the little short, round girl that strolls down Madison Avenue toting a PBS tote bag like it’s a Fendi.
And proud of myself by the very way!
For 200 years now, give or take a few years, Mystery! has had the wonderfully macabre Edward Gorey introduction. I heart Edward Gorey so I’ve always appreciated the fine animated introduction of Mystery!
However, recently things have been a brewing at PBS! Change isn’t always my most favorite thing in the world and no I don’t embrace it. You embrace it if you like it so much! I’ll stick with the things I know thanks very much!
One such change that is unforgivable to the Muse would be the revamp, rename, and re-host of my very favorite program on PBS, Masterpiece Theater.
Masterpiece Theater has undergone not only a name change but also a host change and all this other crap I’m not loving.
Gillian Anderson is suddenly the host of Masterpiece Theater…oh sorry…it’s called Masterpiece Classic now. Granted, the content is still very much the same but I can do without Gillian Anderson. Sheesh, couldn’t we find a Brit to do the introduction? Hells, I’d have settled for Madonna with a fake British accent instead of Agent Scully!
Look at her hair! It clashes with the bloody back drop! Please can it be real British host time now? The Muse simply demands it!
Sadly, even though I donate gobs of spare cash to PBS they refused to listen to my demands for a new host and I’m somehow stuck now fast forwarding through the bad introduction of Masterpiece each week and hiding my checkbook as I refuse to donate money to them until they lynch Gillian! Sorry!
However, this week PBS more than made up with it when they revamped my second favorite show Mystery! with a new host and a new introduction!
Alan Cumming has made his debut as a fine host of Mystery! The Muse is not worthy of the awesomeness of Alan Cumming being so brilliant at introducing Mystery!
I lust after Alan Cumming in a major way and I couldn’t be happier that PBS has heard my agonizing cries of mercy and provided me with at the very least an awesome host for Mystery! It’s the least they could do after making me suffer through the badness that is Gillian Anderson.
On a side note check out Billie Piper making the cross over from Masterpiece Classic to Masterpiece Mystery! Obviously, life after Doctor Who and Diary of a Call Girl were simply not enough! Go Billie Go!
Ok I guess I’m appeased now! Happiness is gagging over Alan Cumming’s fine, dapper introduction on Mystery! Well done!
I’ve been a patron member for about 8 years or so now so if you’d like to donate proceeds of your cosmetic funds to PBS do have a click over!
Seems you were treated to some Musings this weekend even though I wasn’t around! I came back and noticed my Too Faced post was up! I was puzzled for a second how the heck it got posted but turns out I had scheduled the post date as the 29th instead of the 30th! Eep! So you got some Monday morning Musings on a Sunday instead! Nice for you, a mystery for me for a second! You now know my dirty little secret….I have tons of posts already written and scheduled to go! I’m telling you about this because I have quite a lot of comments to get through so I didn’t want you think I was posting entries and ignoring you! I’ll be replying to each of you shortly!
This is kinda sorta a different style of post for me today. I rarely write posts about weekends, vacations, life, etc….although some of you have expressed a keen interest in seeing photos from my vacations and such I sincerely doubt you come here to read about me, my life, and such! You do however come for the great cosmetics I’m sure hehe!
I personally don’t want to bore you to tears about the details of my life or what I do on weekends and such however today I thought I’d slap some pics and such up from my little getaway in Atlantic City this weekend. This does have to kinda do with cosmetics which is why I decided to do the post!
I spend 5 out of 7 days behind a desk at work so when the weekend hits I like getting out and enjoying myself in a major way! Wahooo!
If you’ve never been to Atlantic City it’s basically the New Jersey version of Vegas just alot smaller. It’s a ton of different shops, casinos, clubs, restaurants, etc…all located on a huge strip of boardwalk complete with beach and ocean.
Recently they even added a ton of outlet shops a little ways off the boardwalk which is fab as you know I really love shopping! They have a slew of posh shops located at a mall on the boardwalk called The Pier Shops so if you’re looking for LV, MAC, Lush, etc…you’d find it here!
However, if it’s cheap you seek you can walk a few blocks down Michigan Ave and confront yourself with sincere shopping paradise such as the Banana Republic Outlet, Lancome Outlet, Converse Outlet, Etc…..
They have some amazing deals which are hard to pass up on! I was really selective about my purchases this weekend however I still managed to do some damage and came home with some great stuff from the Fall Collections plus loaded up on shoes, sneakers, clothes, etc….!
I won’t be showing any of the Fall goodies I got quite yet however I will show you some of the freaking amazing deals that I seen about around!
Behold Glorious Cosmetics on Sale at the Lancome Outlet (If some pics are blurry it’s because I took them in a rush as the SA’s don’t appreciate you walking around snapping photos in the store):
That lady in the blue shirt was stocking up like the world was going to run out of cosmetics! She had two baskets full! Phew I was exhausted just watching her!
Tons of Shu shadows, Shu blushes, Lancome palettes of all kinds, etc…all marked down and priced at 4 for $40!
Can someone shoot me? Is that the Destiny Cube I see for 4 for $40 bucks? How obscene! The Muse loves hers but didn’t pay $10 bucks for the bloody thing! Revisit my review of the Lancome’s Mystery Game Collection by clicking here!
It be Converse Time!
Rows of yummie Converse in fruity shades! Oops blurry pic! SA is in the back of me wondering what the hell I’m doing! Turns out he was sweet even offered to take a pic of me in the aisle with the sneakers…hmmmm…no thanks that’s a bit too far!
Converse on sale? The Muse is on the case!
I ended up hauling five pairs of Converse for $120 USD! Plus no tax! Loves it! I didn’t take a picture but I got a really awesome soft aqua pair that are simply yummie! They had tons for $19.98 USD which is a considerable discount as they normally range from $40 and up depending on style. I have 150 pairs to match every outfit already but I sincerely couldn’t resist! It’s the inner geek in me that demands I wear a pair of Converse even with a business suit!
Coach Outlet Hauling now! Look at that white shiny sign becking in the distant!
All shoes 20% Off? No tax? Ok, you talked me into it! Yes, designer brands too!
Heading to The Pier Shops! That’s it on the right!
That water looks rather nice! Think they’ll mind if I jump in and frolic about!
L@@K It’s the Apple Store! Must go get my geek on inside!
Ahhh Lush! Soap time!
More shots of the mall:
Where’s the sale? I see alot of people down there!
Heading to MAC!
The Art of Shaving! Love that store! MAC is next store!
Below are just some miscellaneous pictures I took! Hope it’s not too boring!
Wild, Wild West Casino and Hotel
The Shore (You can literally see how humid it is! Yak!) \
Well the weekend is upon us finally! Is that a happy sigh of relief I hear out there?
How are you liking Beauty on a Budget Week so far? I fear most of my finds weren’t so fabulous! Sorry guys you can’t take the fabulous out of the Muse and replace it with cheap!
Beauty and a Budget Week continues next week as I still have a few items to get through in the way of reviews and I promise something has to turn up good!
It just so happens that next week will also start up Japanese Cosmetic Review Week. I’ve been remiss in reviewing the Summer Collections from Japan, apologies for that!
I have a load of stuff for you up my sleeve so be patient with me and I promise I’ll get to it all! That includes the newest MAC Collections which I am late bringing to you guys!
This weekend I’m heading to Atlantic City so of course I’ll be hitting up The Pier Shops at Caesars so I can gamble with one hand and shop with the other! They have MAC, Lush, Etc..so let’s hope I come home with some cool goodies for review!
How about you?
Whatcha doing for the weekend?
For now I bid you fair thee well and I’ll see you Monday! Happy Weekend!
Here’s some link love for you to amuse yourselves with while I’m away gambling my unborn children’s tuitions away at the poker table:
Today a very kind reader, jkim, brought to my attention that I had made an appearance on the Etude House’s official blog plus made a second appearance at The Daily Cosmetic.
Jkim was totally gorgeous enough to translate the entire article for me and I’m eternally grateful to her for it! Thanks lovie! The Muse hearts you in a major way right now!
I thought I’d share with what was said in the article! I’m EXTREMELY proud of the large community of Asian readers I have at Musings and it just tickles me that I’m recognized for that on Etude House’s blog and The Daily Cosmetic!

Etude House Breaking Down American Walls! ? ??? ??? ?? ?????? ?? ?? ??
American Women Learn About Etude House Through Blogs
Five years ago, Etude created the Etude House brand within Korea with a new concept and products that recaptured women’s hearts. Now, for the last two years, the company has successfully entered various Asian markets.
In particular, for a domestic (Korean) brand to move beyond Asia and reach American consumers is extremely rare but it’s proving itself not to be an exception even to a cosmetics powerhouse like the U.S.

Etude House products shown here in an American blog
Referring to herself as a “Cosmetic w. (whore)” for her obsession with makeup, this woman reviews an average of 80 products a month on her blog. The Etude House products she reviewed came from this Spring’s new Peach line, which included the Pore Erasing Peach Base, blusher, eyeshadow, lipgloss, etc. In all, around 10 products - practically the entire line. There are nearly 140 comments total on all of her entries regarding Etude, proving the popularity and interest of these products.

In her review of the Peach Skin Pact and Pore Erasing Peach Base, she sang its praises by saying, “It’s wonderful, brillant primer and the price is ridiculously inexpensive for such a great product” (sic). Ji Eun Yang, a college student who visited this blog, said “I’m really proud of the fact that Korean cosmetics are starting to gain recognition all over the world.”
The Etude marketing director stated, “In today’s world, where ‘global’ is a big buzzword, we were able to reaffirm the possibilities for Etude’s international ventures,” adding, “We plan to develop fresh new products that will win the hearts of not only Asian consumers but of those in the entire world.”
Since the world as we know it has taken a nose dive and gas prices have risen up to $4.95 USD per a gallon and the future of the presidential election is the biggest mystery since Elvis appearing on a slice of whole wheat toast I’ve decided that we must have a Beauty on a Budget Week!
Yes kids, now is the time to take responsibility for our money and hope for the best.
And everyone from England who’s groaning about the ridiculously low cost of gas should know we yanks are spoiled and $4.95 USD is damn expensive!
The moral of the story is today my sister brought me to Walmart (I should say a few days ago as this was written a bit ago! Sorry ’bout that peeps!) as I kicked, screamed, and pleaded with her to PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ME TO WALMART FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THINGS GOOD AND HOLY!
I hate Walmart.
With a passion.
I really do.
Sorry if you love it.
I simply hate it.
It’s a giant space filled with really cheap stuff…I mean seriously cheap….I mean tacky cheap….I mean….ok I’m being a bit dramatic…you get the point. Aside from that I won’t get into what an evil empire it is!
Anyway. She’s going on holiday shortly and needed a few bits and bobs so somehow that translated into “Let’s go to Walmart!”
And it turned into a day trip with her, my best friend Jai, and myself. Praise Jebus that Jai came along for the ride! I mean seriously who else could I trade catty remarks with while browsing the aisles of really cheap crap laying around Walmart.
I’ve no idea how we got invovled in this road trip but obviously we had nothing better to do with our fabulous selves aside from following my sister around while she loaded her cart with enough stuff to cloth, feed, cleanse, and make up an entire country.
Since Jai and I drew the line at following her into the clothing department (our eyes were burning enough already imagine if we were presented with racks and racks of cheap clothes???) we wandered into the cosmetic aisles and amused ourselves with really cheap drugstore cosmetics.
And as we browsed we decided that we’d spend some bucks on really cheap drugstore finds and do an article on all the cool or maybe not so cool stuff we found!
So since inspiration struck in the middle of the cosmetic aisle at Walmart I’ve decided to bring you a week in review of really cheap, Beauty on a Budget finds!
You’ll see a new Beauty on a Budget review each day for the next week (or until I run out of crap to review).
In all seriousness, catty comments aside, I think it’s a great way for me to broaden my horizons and see what else is available that can’t be found at Neimans, Saks, Sephora, Nordies, or the inside of Japanese, Korean, and Singaporean drugstores.
It’ll be a real learning experience for me!
It’s a great essential guide for you as well since these may be a few items you might have wanted to try but like me have been burned one too many times by drugstore brands and have passed them by chalking them up as money well NOT spent.
I’ll be featuring many items I’ve passed up MANY times that I’ve wanted to try but have been highly skeptical of!
I hope you’re excited to learn more about these items and hey maybe I’ll find something in this pile that I actually really do LOVE!
