My Musings of the Day was brought on suddenly after watching a video from FloridaSweety on youTube.
Please tell me you subscribe to her videos? No? Check it below and you’ll totally understand my obsession.
Is she hysterical or what? I absolutely adore how she starts out on one topic and starts flying off the handle from topic to topic. Absolutely adored when she stops mid sentence because her cell phone starts to ring and she goes off on a tangent about how she won’t pick it up.
Lord…youTube is the best.
The moral of the story is FloridaSweety was saying how overrated MAC is and I was wondering what brand or brands do you think are terribly overrated?
Click below for my answer!
Ok, I probably have a few answers for this. Let’s see. I think NYX is big time overrated. They have alot of great stuff but the raves about how comparable they are to MAC…ummm overrated! One such example would be everyone comparing NYX shadows to MAC ummm again no I don’t think. Very nice shadows but not as good as MAC in my humblest.
It’s Monday so my brain is slow today and I’m only coming up with the one brand…so throw some my way!
I can’t help but associate Spring with the color green. Green symbolizes rebirth somehow and the beginning of a warmer season when the new flowers begin to bloom, the grass begins to peek it’s head up from the cold melting blanket of snow, and nature begins to come alive with the warmer weather.
You should probably be prepared as Spring is right around the corner and what better way to brace yourself for the up coming season than with five great green eye shadows that are sure to help you kick off Spring!
For the budget friendly makeup girl try out Milani Runway Eyes Wet/Dry Eyeshadow in Leaf Green which is a sparkling light green that looks gorgeous on it’s own or paired up with a softer lilac or a darker green for a beautiful contrast! At around $4 USD this won’t break into your Spring budget. Get it this week at CVS during the Milani Buy One Get One 50% Off Sale!
Want to go a bit darker? Dark green always looks mysterious and alluring on brown eyes, take the Muse’s word for it! For a cheap, inexpensive dark green eye look try out Terra Eye Shadow in Emerald Green which runs around $6.49 to $7.49 USD at Duane Reade Drugstores.
If you want to step up your game and indulge in a sparkling green shadow try out Vincent Longo Wet/Dry Sparkling Eyeshadow in Verite. This dark green shade has plenty of sparkle and looks beautiful used wet or dry!
Urban Decay is known for it’s heavy duty sparkly eye shadows but Acid Rain has a nice silky finish sans glitter and packs plenty of soft Spring green that will light up your eyes!
Take your green abroad and indulge in a minty green shadow like Maquillage Eye Shadow in GR168. This minty green shade offers a different shade of green for Spring that’s unique and pleasing on any color eye!
Did you know the Muse had to recently move mountains to locate a pot of the new Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Concealer? I know, I know I’m so damn heroic aren’t I? Moving mountains to locate products to review for you guys…go on now tell me how wonderful I am!
No but seriously it was HARD finding this junk! I looked everywhere but it was either not available or sold out in the shade I wanted. Seriously, when I walk into a drugstore I think they should all bow down at my arrival, after all I am the freaking Muse but ado the memo of who I am must be delayed so each time I visited my shade was not available or I just couldn’t find the product.
After several weeks or maybe it was only a few weeks, I like to exaggerate to make it seem more dramatic. Anyway, after several months I finally located Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Concealer! Bless be!
I hate all the products that come out lately that are cream but have “mineral” in their name. Does that annoy anyone? It annoys me. I associate minerals with powder not with creams and it just drives me bats when creams are called “mineral”. What was I saying?
Oh yes on with the review!
The product is housed in a dual container which has a creamy concealer on top and a white setting base on the bottom. The basic design mimics Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit and Laura Mercier Undercover Pot. Actually, the product is almost as good as both of those concealers with a minor hiccup here and there.
Allow me to rant for a minute. When I first seen this concealer it was $8.49 USD…when I finally located it the price had jacked up to $13.99 USD which means I paid $15.02 USD. So not cool. So not not cool. Oh my god…$15 bucks for drugstore concealer? Not cool people, really not cool! Might as well head to Sephora for that price. Anyway I’ll be nice and will say that you can probably get it on sale and save a whole lot of money. I was just impatient and I’m extremely bratty that I paid that much for it.
Formula is identical to Bobbi Brown Concealer, very emollient, very moisturizing, and heavily pigmented. This bad boy will hide it all! Dark circles, fine lines, puffiness, you name it I’m sure you can cover it with this. It doesn’t crease, it doesn’t fade, and it’s virtually waterproof. I came home after a really long day and it was still in place. VERY good long wear on this concealer. Count the Muse impressed. The setting powder is nice and sheer but doesn’t do too big a job of brightening up the eye area. I find my powder from my Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Palette brightens as well as sets but hey we can’t have it all.
Now….problem…..could be slight and not too big a deal but could be a deal breaker for some…I’m trying to overlook this flaw and love the concealer regardless.
It doesn’t blend very well. Dunno why as the formula is pretty much the same as Bobbi’s but it doesn’t quite blend out as well. I had a difficult time getting it on correctly and it kind of sat on top of my eye area. After it’s in place it looks good but blending is a tiny bit troublesome and I’m not entirely sure why that is. When I use Bobbi’s concealer it blends in and creates a nice even finish but this just sat on top of my skin and looked quite unnatural. When I did try to blend it, it ended up smearing around and I dunno…just a mess. Minor rant I suppose since when I do get it properly in place I love the finished results and I absolutely adore at how well it conceals. The formula is quite thick so you might want to keep this in mind prior to trying it out and also remember to prep very well prior to use as it will settle into fine lines if you don’t. This has a nice high SPF of 20 as well which is a plus.
All in all I liked this alot and I’m even approving it for purchase but do try to locate it on sale as I don’t think it’s worth dishing out $15 bucks for it, for that price you can splurge on a name brand!
Who might like it?
Anyone with serious under eye woes that need concealing and covering up!
My inner bartender likes the idea of Milani Lip Mixer! Doesn’t it sound like a fancy drink? I’m positive the next Sex and the City Movie will feature the girls asking for a Milani Lip Mixer and not some boring old Cosmopolitan plus it’s probably heaps cheaper at $5.49 USD…gotta love the Muse for bringing the budget right?
Jump ahead to hear the deets on Milani’s newest gloss available for Spring 2009.
Milani Lip Mixer is a unique 3-in-1 formula that offers high gloss, reflective pearls, and a conditioning color with one swipe of the wand…damn…that’s a whole lot of everything in one little tube.
Now the Muse likes to thin of it as three layers that consist of a creamy color, a glitter top coat, and a glossy base. She thinks her way is easier to remember and keeps the frills to a minimum. Whatever way you dice it you’ll end up with the same awesome gloss that offers a nicely pigmented pout with hints of shimmer and a glossy finish all for a small price tag. Likey! If we’re being honest after around three uses the “mixer” becomes one gloss as everything ends up cocktailing together anyway so you’ll end up with a shimmery gloss and you can forget the rest.
I tried out two of the six new shades available and I must say I did like them especially because of the price. The colors I tried were Lip Mingle and Lip Fuse. Lip Mingle is a toasty brown, bronze shade with a heavy dose of golden shimmer where as Lip Fuze is a true pink shade with a slight lilac base and pink shimmer. Out of the two Lip Mingle was def my favorite as it pairs up incredibly well with a warmer eye look.
The formula feels more like a lip cream rather than a lip gloss but has a nice glossy finish. The conditioning color has quite a good pigmentation so the gloss can be worn alone or on top of your favorite lipstick. The texture isn’t tacky and feels creamy on your lips. The glosses have a slightly fruity grape taste which is quite pleasant, the Muse is a sucker for glosses that are flavored! Each gloss is $5.49 USD and of course can be cheaper depending on sales and such at your local drugstore (especially CVS who has BOGO offers all the time for Milani Cosmetics w00t!).
All in all I think Milani Lip Mixer Lipgloss is well worth checking out as it’s a rather nice little gloss with a sweet price tag! Loves ‘em!
If you’re anything like the Muse you might like a matching pair of this and a matching pair of that. How about a matching lipstick and lip gloss combo housed in a slick little compact with a fold out mirror?
In steps Milani Pretty Pair which features all three for a couture of color!
Select from 8 different shades of perfectly matching lipstick and lip gloss with the new Milani Pretty Pair Lipstick and Lip Gloss Duos out for Spring 2009.
These duos contain one lipstick and one lip gloss for creating a perfectly matching glossy, pigmented pout. Slap them both in a rather cute compact with a flip out mirror and it’s a pretty fine beauty budget find. Mix ‘em up for three different looks that you can achieve by wearing them alone or together.
Milani Pretty Pair Lipstick and Lip Gloss come housed in a stand up gold compact which has a slide out mirror on the back for easy application on the go. Simply twist and pull to release each product! Apply the lipstick first and pair it up with the gloss for added impact of color and shine.
Both products are heavily pigmented and quite a nice buy for the price of $6.99 USD. You’re probably not going to be able to purchase a gloss and a lipstick at $7 bucks so this is a nice little budget option as it gets you both.
Although the products are meant for wearing alone or together, I personally prefer using them together as they work best that way as the lipstick on it’s own is a little bit drying. Paired with the gloss you won’t notice the drying texture of the lipstick so it’s best to wear them together in my humble opinion. The formula is paraben-free as well which is always a plus.
I tried the shades Two Sweet and Two Good to Be True. Two Sweet wasn’t working out too well on me as it’s really a very true red. If you love bold, vibrant red shades you’ll absolutely adore this. On me it looks a tiny bit clown-like. Two Good to Be True is stunning and quite flattering! It’s a mix of beige with gold and silver sparkles that give it a bit of a bronze brown look. This shade was quite lovely for Spring and will work well into Summer.
If you’re looking for a rather cute compact of gloss and lipstick paired together for a low price, Milani Pretty Pair is something you’ll absolutely love. The Muse thinks they are well worth checking out for yourself for that perfect Spring pout!
Tried ‘em already?

You know how they made Resident Evil into a movie and it kinda sorta blows? Don’t get the Muse wrong she lurves zombies in just about any format she can get ‘em! However, the moral of her story is she thinks that making popular video games into movies is normally pretty darn taboo, same goes for comic books by the very way (aside from Iron Man that is, Robert Downey Jr equals ridiculous hotness. He’s proof that things do get better with age!).
Another words sometimes it’s best to stick to what you know….
So….count the Muse skeptical that a bottled water company is out there putting out lip gloss.
I mean come on, stick to what you know! Bottled water…cosmetics…hmmm different…right?
Turns out Aquafina actually succeeds at creating quality water and awesome cosmetics too! Yay Aquafina!
I recently tried out Aquafina Hydrating Lip Oil and I’m officially hooked! Cheap as day old chips this gloss is the new awesome in my life. Created using calming natural botanicals the gloss or “oil” is a nice shiny, glossy formula that glides onto lips leaving behind a mirror finish. Now I don’t think that Aquafina had any plans for busting into the gloss world with this particular product however it’s bloody good stuff and as I mentioned cheap as all hell.
Packaging together awesome moisture, shine, and good for you ingredients like sweet almond and jojoba oil it moisturizes, protects, and heals dry lips in a quick swipe! I seriously could not put this down and almost went through an entire tube in one day since I was reapplying every two seconds because I liked how awesome it felt on my lips.
The texture kinda sorta feels like a cross between a gel, an oil, and water all rolled into one. This particular combination makes the product a tad bit on the runny side and I felt like application every hour or two was in order as it kept running around on my lips. But honestly that shouldn’t be a problem considering it’s a “treatment” and not really a gloss. I’ve taken to wearing it after I wash my face and I’m about to turn in for the night as it treats my dry lips and makes them nice and soft when I wake up in the AM.
One thing I absolutely hated about the product but slowly grew to love was the taste. The product smells and tastes like heavy duty menthol…kinda tastes like you’re slapping some Vics on your lips or something. It tingles a tiny but and for the most part the minty menthol is a bit strong and took me time to get used to. After a while I simply grew to love the taste, so much so I was chewing the gloss off almost as soon as it was on my lips. Bad Muse, bad!
This is one of those products that you simply must try as you’ll undoubtedly fall fully in love with it. The Muse is kinda sorta hoping that she’ll develop a case of chapped lips soon so this could cure her woes!
The Muse Approves this in a major way and tells you to get some as soon as possible! Really, really good stuff! Loves it!
