I’ve been busy fiddling around with the Stila E! Live from the Red Carpet Palettes that I got for virtually free thanks to their awesome reward programs! Yay!
As you know from my prior post Glamour Goddess was the one that was really appealing to me even though I hauled all three. It’s the warmest of the three and I’m just a great lover of golds so this was fitting for me.
Let’s check it and find out if the quality actually lives up to Stila quality or if these veer towards the Travel Palette route.
The new Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful Palettes have launched on counter, I seen ‘em at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom while shopping yesterday so if you’re lemming is strong do check ‘em out.
Best news? They are also at Sephora. This is fab if you got a gift certificate for the Holidays and wondering what you want to splurge on.
The palettes at first glance featured some cooler shades of pink but after getting the palettes I realize one is actually cool and geared more towards a youthful audience and one is warmer and more grown up for those who want a more sophisticated pink.
Let’s check out the Bobbi Brown Powerful Palette which is the warmer and maturer of the two!
This year’s variation of Tarte’s mega palette, The Jewelry Box, features a whopping 32 Full Size Eyeshadows plus other wonderful goodies. I kinda dub Tarte the founding sister of HUGE Holiday Palettes. While every other brand was doing gift sets or festive themed makeup, Tarte was busy releasing super sized palettes to sink our teeth in. Needless to say the rest of the makeup world soon caught the bug and started releasing their own versions of these monsters palettes but we should all bow our heads in respect that Tarte was the first brand to start this great Holiday tradition.
I believe their Holiday Palette is now in its fourth or fifth generation, I know I own at least three of these bad boys and I can recall a year or two I didn’t indulge. Go right ahead and correct me if I’m wrong. I haven’t really gotten tired of collecting them since they are 1. such a great value and 2. Tarte goes for the shock value every year and just when you think you’ve seen it all, they go and do something extra special which is what The Jewerly Box Palette felt like to me.
It was the same idea and design but it was a new as well with alot more packaged into one very tiny box! Who doesn’t like a palette that features everything and the kitchen sink and allows it to fit into a chunky little box about the size of a music CD? That’s awesomeness people.
Did you haul the Tarte Jewelry Box?

Coastal Scents fans step right up! I know some of you have been really eager for some reviews from Coastal Scents but I’ve been a bit apprehensive about trying it out for size. Those mega palettes kinda scare me but they sure are hyped up in a major way across beauty blogs everywhere.
After getting many requests requesting some reviews from Coastal Scents I decided it was about time to bite the bullet. So expect a few reviews upcoming…
What do you think of Coastal Scents?

Earlier this month Stila sent out an e-mail burst stating they had 50 of their brand new Stila Holiday Blockbuster Sets available and the makeup world proceeded to go ape sh*t.
50? Seriously? Only 50? WTH people! Needless to say it proceeded to sell out within a brief blink of my eye. I wasn’t one of the lucky 50 to snag it.
Flash forward several minutes later and comments and e-mails proceeded to flood me telling me, “Hey, wait a sec, that palette is at Costco for $20 bucks!”
Indeed, this palette is at your local Costco and merely $20.
Don’t ask why, or how or who but Stila stated it had the following items:
- 30 Stila Eyeshadows
- 3 Stila Convertible Colors
- 15 Stila Lip Colors and Glosses
- 2 Stila Sun Bronzers
- 2 Stila Cheek Colors
- 2 Stila All Over Shimmer Highlighters
- 1 Mini Mascara
Is it different from the Costco version? I honestly haven’t a clue but I do know that it was $8 bucks more from Stila and seemed to have a bit more involved as the one at Costco includes:
- 30 Eyeshadows
- 15 Lip Colors and Glosses
- 3 Cheek Colors
- 2 Stila Sun Bronzers
- 1 Lip Pencil
- 1 Eye Liner Pencil
No Convertible Color here, no mascara, no shimmer highlighters……
Are they the same palette? I think maybe they are and perhaps Stila put the wrong details up when selling their 50, super limited edition palettes, considering they posted on their Facebook that the 50 were from left over stock at Costco someone had mentioned but where did they get the details for that palette?
A mystery we may never hear about unless one of those lucky 50 purchasers are bloggers and review the one they purchased from Stila’s website.
Putting all this aside you may question whether this is a good marketing angle for Stila. Stila’s a mid-range brand with a high mark up. As in, it isn’t as cheap as other middle of the range brands and it does fall into the realms of a makeup luxury for some where as for others not so much. Really depends on your budget for makeup.
Hardcore fans might see this as a bad move considering it’s taking Stila down into the realms of being more affordable but you’re also losing the quality commonly associated with the brand. We all like to save money, yes, but I don’t think you want to save money by forsaking quality. Stila’s Holiday Blockbuster Palette is Made in China as well which could cause some outcry among makeup junkies.
