Laura Geller Baked Bites Lush Lip Color Palette Review and Swatches

Does anyone remember a long time ago in a land far, far away when Revlon (I think it was Revlon) had these uber cool powder lipsticks? I remember I had two shades and one was called Saddle….it came in a small compact kinda like eye shadow with a sponge applicator. You’d smooth it on using the sponge applicator and it would give lips a pigmented, matte powder finish. It was interesting to say the least and unique. I must have been 13 or so when I had it? Maybe a bit more? Bueller, Bueller Anyone?

Well ok if you’re too young to recall these let me share with you the Laura Geller Baked Bites Lush Lip Color and Olive Oil Infushed Gloss Palette. Same concept here but a little different!

Check it out after the jump!

I’m sorta kinda on the fence about this one so bear with me here.

Here’s the deets. Laura Geller Baked Bites Palette has two powder lipsticks or lip creams or lip powders or whatever is you want to call ‘em. Basically they are a baked lip powder that are smoothed on using a sponge applicator and in their wake they leave behind a pigmented burst of color. Also included in the palette is an Olive Oil Infused Lip Gloss for placing on top of the powder after application so you have a shiny, glossy pigmented pout. The palette contains two shades which are a metallic bronzy peach and a deeper bronze berry. The gloss included has a reddish tint but is transparent after application.

Here’s the deal. It would have been so much better if they simply stopped with two baked powders. Including the gloss killed it for me. The powders look incredible on my lips separate or mixed together. They really give an outrageous pop to my lips that I love. Very sexy looking and spicy. I have no idea if either sexy and spicy should be used in the same sentence when referring to me but just deal with it for a second while I tell you my tale. Now I loved the idea of having this glam pout but I admit a bit of gloss on top really sounded fab. Um not so good an idea. Adding the gloss on top does nothing. The gloss is infused with Olive Oil right? But it’s barely emollient and far from glossy. It just feels cheap and hard. What happened to gorgeous shine and gloss? Damn you don’t promise me things I can’t have! I decided that even though I couldn’t get glossy and fabulous from Miss Olive Oil Infused I’d go ahead and use some of my Too Faced Mirror Mirror Gloss on top of the baked lip powder. Bad idea. Very messy. Eep. I guess the powders are simply not meant to combine with a super moisturizing gloss.

So that’s the story….

I’m really loving the powder lip colors, hating the gloss, and just feeling like I’m missing something when I just use the powder by themselves. Hmmm see? On the fence here.

Not sure if I adore this or not. At this point I’m wondering if I should just ditch and return it rather than have it end up in the cosmetic graveyard, unused and lonely for attention. Hmmm could be this one is leaving on a jet plane and won’t be back again! Buh-bye!

Laura Geller Baked Bites Lush Lip Color Palette is available now from QVC for $29.50 USD, Item Number A87624. It’s sorta kinda worth checking out as it’s one of those things you might end up falling for!

For my look below I used the bronze peach shade with a bit of Too Faced Mirror Mirror Gloss on top. It took a fair bit of work to get it to look nice as during first application it was smeared and gunked up all over the place. Oh by the way that’s my Summer Warrior look hehe. I’m using MAC Eye Shadow in Soft Force and Tempting on my eyes, loves ‘em!

Laura Geller Baby Cakes Complexion Palette Review

The Muse was loving all over the Laura Geller Baby Cakes Complexion Palette a few weeks ago. It’s cute size and it’s small price tag definitely made it appealing to say the least. With my great success with the Laura Geller Baked To Go Balance n Brighten I was about ready to venture deeper into the world of Laura Geller baked products so indeed I spilled out my $30 bucks to QVC on the double and waited patiently for the arrival of my little Baby Cakes palette.

And it finally arrived.

You can hear all about what I think after the jump!

No likey. That about sums it up.

Ok, uber cute packaging, loves it! Good job Laura. Love the cute flip top lid, love the idea of three cute little baked face powders available in one spot with a small brush for application. Love the inexpensive price tag of $29.99 too! All good things as far as the Muse is concerned. Who doesn’t think this thing is adorable? I admit I was worried about the kick up of dusty face powder ending up all over the black palette but I overlooked that and just concentrated on the fact that it was rather a nifty, neat little design. I liked the idea of toting around three little face powders with a handy, dandy brush for application. The powders are small, a little bigger than a quarter. This could be a deal breaker for some but for me it just added to it’s appeal and seemed to make it extra travel friendly.

However, all this doesn’t make up for one of the reasons I avoided Laura’s baked products for a long time. The chalky way they apply. Le sigh.

Ok, first off I’m pretty chuffed with the Balance n Brighten. This is the lightest shade in the palette and meant to create a nice, even finish to skin. It does just that and does the job very well. I generally love this product and was happy it was in the overall palette. It evens out my skin tone, brightens it, erases dull spots, and just makes me look flawless.

My beef lays with the Ethereal Rose Face Powder and the Bronze-n-Brighten. I guess Ethereal Rose isn’t really supposed to act as a blush but I suppose I was thinking it would be pigmented enough to work as one. It’s sheer, chalky, and applies a bit on the nasty side. It makes my dry skin look even drier which is not a good look in my humblest. This particular powder is one reason I’ve failed to purchase any of Laura Geller’s products in a long time. The Bronze-n-Brighten is just as bad. It’s chalky and sheer as well but at least it applies somewhat better however you’ll notice no real difference in your skin tone once applied as it’s not pigmented enough to make much of a difference. Disappointing to say the least.

We are purchasing this because it contains three great products but sadly only one of three actually works well so what’s the point? Count this Muse disappointed. This one just didn’t work out as well as I’d have liked and the cuteness and inexpensive price tag just aren’t enough to make me grin and bear it.

Skip.

Not worth it in my humblest opinion.

Laura Geller Baked To Go Balance N Brighten Foundation Review

Several days ago the Muse was ohh’ing and ahh’ing over the cuteness that is Laura Geller Baked To Go Balance N Brighten Foundation. It was so tiny and so cute I couldn’t resist snagging one for myself.

Sure am happy I did check out why after the jump!

The Muse’s last experience with Laura Geller wasn’t particularly great. She makes an incredible line of products but for some reason I’m always pushing them to the back burner after trying a powder out a year or two ago and finding it very chalky. The chalky episode prevented me from indulging in anything else ever after that.

When I seen the Laura Geller Baked To Go Balance N Brighten Foundation I loved the packaging so much (and the price, hello $24 bucks) that I decided to indulge. Baked to Go is simply a smaller version of Laura Geller’s popular Balance N Brighten Foundation (this happens to be the product that I experienced chalky bliss with). Count me scared to try this but I couldn’t resist. I’m glad I did purchase it as it’s rather fabulous and all the promises of lightening, brightening, and erasing dullness are all true.

The formula of the powder is mineral oil and paraben-free which is always a plus for those on ingredient watch. The powder creates a super flawless even coverage that brightens up my skin and removes dullness. It’s funky how they designed the packaging as the powder is just a mini baked powder slapped into a spring-fed case which has a removable sponge applicator. Twist open and plenty of product is distributed on the brush so you can easily blend onto face. The product is plenty pigmented that one twist should give you plenty of coverage.

Indeed, as promised it works great as a foundation but I prefer it as a finishing powder or a touch up powder through out the day simply due to it’s wear. It needs a touch up within 2-3 hours of application so I really can’t enjoy it as a foundation as it doesn’t last long enough without having to reapply in between. It’s rather ideal for toting to work and doing a fresh up with as it brightens up any signs of tired, dull skin and creates a nice flawless finish.

It only comes in two shades so I’m unsure if I’d bother recommending it for anyone with skin darker than fair or medium fair.

All in all I absolutely loved this. It’s incredibly travel friendly and does delightful things to my complexion!

Big Muse Approval for purchase.

Hauled It! QVC Day of Beauty

If you’re a beauty junkie you probably already knew that QVC had an all day beauty event on Saturday. As tempting as it was to stay inside and just watch beauty on the tube, the weather was too nice to resist the temptation of outdoor play so this Muse Tivo’ed up everything that was on this Saturday and fast forwarded through it early this morning to get a peep at what she missed!

qvc

After fast forwarding briefly I came across two or three items I had to have but was somewhat relieved that it wasn’t a ton of must have items.

Here’s what I hauled:

I’m not sure why but I got a bit crazy with all the Laura Geller items offered. It seemed like such a good deal and the Kiss and Bake set. The few times I’ve tried Laura’s baked goodies they have always been a tad chalky but I decided what the heck, might as well re-try ‘em!

As for the Bobbi Brown, obviously you can see why I love these shadows plus I thought it wasn’t too bad a deal for all three.

I’m looking forward to scrolling through the rest of my Tivo’ed recordings to see what else was offered on Saturday!

What did you haul?
