Better later than never at all…or so they tell me!
I’m a bit late and behind with my MAC posts you have to forgive me! I am, as always, a MAC fan girl but for some odd reason I got a bit mucked up when I went on vacation. My MAC Cool Heat post never made it up and my MAC Solar Bits review never got put up either! And by the very way I still have Cult of the Cherry items to blog too! Oops!
Bad Muse, Bad!
However, I figure a review of MAC Solar Bits is definately in order so I might as well slap this up before we all get old and gray (gosh, I think I may already fit part of that description or..all..eep!).
MAC Solar Bits were hailed by the masses and I definately enjoyed grabbing three of the four shades released this Summer however I did have some minor rants and a few raves about this particular style of pigments.
Although these were extremely pigmented with a very interesting texture they were a god awful mess to use sadly. The pigments are not finely milled and are made up of chunky pieces that caused major fall out woes. With a bit of care, patience, and some serious prepping you could create some great looks!
The formula is a good deal different from the standard pigment line. Although the pigmentation and color payoff is about the same as any other MAC pigment you will notice an interesting characteristic Solar Bits possesses. Where as a normal pigment stays one color, Solar Bits had a special knack of morphing into an entirely new hue when you pressed down and began the blending process. Each small curd of pigment would burst upon contact with your brush or sponge applicator and the shade would morph slightly creating a rather interesting effect.
Scatterays paired up with some gold!
Bronzescape on it’s own.
Black Ore creating an unusual effect over some MAC Pigment in Kelly Green!
The colors I have are Bronzescape, Black Ore, and Scatterays.
Bronzescape was a brassy, bronze shade that had a faint shimmer of gold, Scatterays is a soft peachy shade with hints of gold, and Black Ore was an off black with gold. All three shades had faint traces of gold that made them extra special. I’m particularly grateful that I don’t have to tuck these away since the Summer is over, they’ll easily work well into the colder seasons for an interesting smoky eye look especially Black Ore.
Although Solar Bits LOOK bigger they actually aren’t. Each pot is 3.9g/0.14oz in size where as a standard pigment is 7.5g/0.26oz. Interesting little fact for you there.
Although interesting and unique I wasn’t too impressed with Solar Bits and as I mentioned I did find them a bit of a mess to work with.
I definately liked trying these but I’m unsure if it was the color selection or just the product itself that’s not getting a complete WOW for these!
All in all another interesting offering from MAC.
Did you get these?

Just when you think MAC has done it all they switch things up a little bit and create another new, interesting, and unique collection that will appeal to the n00bs and fan girls alike.
Although MAC has done and re-done pigments until we are all blue in the face I think it’s safe to say that they never get old and we never get tired of ‘em, at least I don’t!
Last year MAC Rush Metal made me a happy girl but this year…this year MAC Overrich really made me estactic. Although Rush Metal is by far one of my favorite pigment collections I must admit that I was thrilled with MAC Overrich.
The pigments in Overrich are good deal different from most previous pigment releases. The formula is a finer grain of product that pigments are most definately not known for and the colors are richer and deeper than any previous release I’ve collected thus far.
Now the formula as I mentioned is slightly different on a few colors. I noticed the formula varied in format in several of the pigments however pretty much very single shade had a very finely milled texture. Most pigments I own do not have this texture, most are very grainy and chunky where as most all of the Overrich pigments were finely milled powder. I also noticed that the colors blended easier and fall out wasn’t as bad as it normally is with other MAC pigments. I also felt like the colors were more richer and intense in comparsion to past shades I’ve collected.
I got all the colors released aside from Mauvement which was a repromote from Rush Metal. The colors are truly intense shades that are super Fall friendly and will be great for creating unique, mysterious, dark eye looks! I can barely wait to dive in!
Blonde’s Gold is my favorite and happens to be a perfect shade of tan that contains so much gold it can easily be mistaken for a shimmering subdued beige shade.
Vintage Gold and Antique Green are next on my top list! These two combined will create a near perfect smoky green eye look. Vintage Gold is an olive green with traces of gold where as Antique Green is a true forest green shade.
Heritage Rouge is a deep burgundy with hints of brown.
Copperbeam is a fine brown with hints of deeper red which creates a tarnished maroon shade.
Mega-Rich is a burnt orange and ideally perfect for Fall!
And finally Museum Bronze is a taupe off brown with hints of gold.
As you can see a majority of the shades contain quite a good deal of golden shimmer which is quite alright with me as I favor a bit of gold in all my shades.
The selection is extremely Fall orintated but can easily work well in the Winter if you’re seeking some ultra chic smoky looks using bolder shades.
I’m glad I got all the colors as they are something well worth picking up! I’m particularly enamoured with Blonde’s Gold.
All in all I’m loving MAC Overrich! It’s a wonderful selection of colors that are Muse Approved for purchase!
Grab ‘em before they are gone!

MAC Cult of the Cherry
I’m really behind on my MAC posts lately aren’t I? I’m sorry about that guys! Forgive me? I still have to blog Cool Heat which was an absolute favorite! And of course Starflash!
But today….today is reserved for something extra special.
MAC Cult of Cherry!
I’ve had a few items from Cult of Cherry for a little over two weeks now but I’ve just been to busy to blog ‘em however now was a good time to tug them out of my “to be reviewed” pile and post considering that Cult of the Cherry is live and kicking on the MAC website and should be at your counter already or coming to it shortly!
Leave it to MAC to take on the latest trend of rich, bold reds, purples, and black and add a tiny bit of unique flavoring to it to create a truly interesting collection that’s both bold and mysterious. The collection’s theme is the forbidden fruit of cherries and the decadence of chocolate to combine a cocktail of bold reds, rich browns, and plenty of kick!
Although some of the colors in the collection are definately difficult to work with it’s fun trying. One such item for me was MAC Matte Lipstick in Bing. I’ve been trying to use this in a look for over a week and still haven’t successfully completed a look where I didn’t look like a corpse! But I vow I will get this down! It’s my aim to look super glam sporting this lippie!
MAC Matte Lipstick in Bing
I created my look below using the MAC Tempting Eye Quad, Jam Packed Lipglass, and So Scarlett Lipstick.
The MAC Tempting Quad is a bit intimidating at first especially considering that the green is such a neon shade. But turns out it all rather works fantastically well together to create a rather wonderful Fall look!
The colors in the quad are Sharp which is a neon green, Next to Nothing a soft cream, Dark Edge a matte deep chocolate, and Temping a shimmering off brown.
Although I was a bit worried about mixing green up with brown after working with the palette I was impressed with how well the colors just melded together. The palette is really simplicity at it’s best and it’s truly easy to create elegance from four simple shades of shadow.
To begin my look I prepped my entire eye with the color Nothing, concentrating on my highbrow area. I proceeded to use Sharp on my entire lid and slowly blended it into part of my crease. After this I blended Tempting into my crease and topped it with Dark Edge. After blending upwards I added more Tempting for that added bit of shimmer and lined my lower lash line with it. I finished my look by using Dark Edge as a liner shade for my upper lash line.
It was really a simple few steps and I liked what came out of it. I’m wanting to purchase the other two quads from Cult of the Cherry so I’m heading over to my counter soonish to see what else catches my fancy as I didn’t attend the pre-launch party for the collection.
As mentioned I used MAC Lipstick in So Scarlett on my lips which is a wonderful burgundy shade with tiny touches of purple. MAC Lipglass in Jampacked completed my lips. Since Jampacked also contains both touches of burgundy and grape it combines wonderfully well with So Scarlett to create a popping lip look. I was slightly disappointed that you couldn’t see more of the grape in my completed look. It looks like I’m wearing more of a red lippie but still I think it’s rather a beautiful combination.
I have my eye on Cult of Cherry and of course Russian Red. I’m sure tons of people are excited about Russian Red making a reappearance!
MAC Lipglass Jampacked
MAC Lipstick So Scarlett
One other color I got to test out was Creme Cerise this is a taupe which has that off beat creamy brown look to it. I haven’t yet used this but I think it’ll look smashing with any of the quads released!
And finally, my favorite, Illegal Purple Nail Varnish! So goth! Totally appeals to my inner goth in a big way! It’s the deepest purple I’ve come across in a nail color and simply stunning.
All in all I think MAC Cult of Cherry definately has a little something for everyone as most MAC Collections do. I’m really enjoying the boldness of these colors. MAC does bold brilliantly well but this is possibly the darkest collection I’ve seen pop up since I began collecting. It’s definately extra special and trendy for the upcoming Fall Season! Look out for some of these looks on the runway during Fashion Week! I’m sure you’ll see some of these trendy looks pop up!
Have you seen the rather funky, cool video on the MAC website? Check it out!

Grrr I’m so peeved with myself! Last night as soon as I got off work I picked up my best mate Jai and we took our fabulous selves off to Nordies to get the low down on the Nordstrom Exclusive MAC Colour Forms Collection (plus see the other exclusive bits and bobs)!
When we got there we headed to the MAC counter first and I was told that the pressed powder was sold out! UGH! I was so disappointed as this was the item I was the most excited about! My MA told me virtually everything was gone aside from two or so each of the new pigment shades, a few palettes, three shades of the highlighters (the rest were gone, gone, gone!) and the brush sets. Can you believe it? Who knew it would go this quickly!!!!!!!
I normally pre-book everything in advance but since I’m always seen these exclusives pop up at my local CCO a few months later at killer deals I was playing it safe by waiting until the date of release but sadly I got turned out in the cold! Can you believe it? The Muse missing out on MAC! Don’t they know who I am?
It’s not all bad as I can get it online but still! Damnit!
On top of that horror story I thought that the new green pigment was a re-promote of “Golders Green” so I skipped it…I got home and realized it’s called Glided Green! Someone shoot me please?
So the Muse is only bringing you part of my haul and the rest will come next week after my order ships from Nordies website!
Jai ended up with zero which is very unlike him as he’s like me and collects all the palettes. He was either suffering from some unknown disease last night or he just wasn’t too thrilled with MAC Color Forms. I can’t blame him too much as it really wasn’t too much to get excited about.
Do not get me wrong. There are some sincerely beautiful things in this collection but I just felt a little tiny bit meh about it. I ended up hauling one palette (very unlike me), one lipstick, and three piggies! $126 USD later I left swinging my bag and humming a happy tune!
Again, very unlike me but I only picked up one of the two palettes. I’d normally grab both but the Cool Eye palette was just blah. Not great colors at all! However, the Warm Eye palette was simply divine and well worth grabbing. It’s a perfect selection of great Fall colors plus it’s a design I haven’t personally seen from MAC before so that alone makes it unique!
The compact design is pretty much identical to last year’s Novel Twist. It’s a solid rectangle box with a flip lid, magnetic closure, and fabric cover. Aside from it’s bright green material cover it’s virtually the same exact compact style as last year’s design. Unlike last year’s five shadow line up this is a tiny bit different. Yes, it does contain five shadow shades but instead of a straight line placement they now have three shadows facing the standard upwards position and two shades that are laying on the side.
It’s an interesting set up for the palette and as I said I’ve never seen MAC do a palette like this. They choose to make the two shadows on the left hand side bigger sizes or at least they look bigger to me. The two lightest shades that you’d use as a base and highlighter are the shades that they give you more of (or it appears to be more but it could be just the set up!).
The color selection is pretty much a very nice array of Fall colors. Granted it’s probably very similar to past MAC palettes but I really like it anyway. I might be bias because I just enjoy MAC palettes but this seems really pretty to me.
MAC Colour Forms Warm Eye Palette versus Novel Twist Warm Eye Palette
Colors included are:
Chillproof-Creamy white comparable MAC Eyeshadow in Mylar or Nyon
Tancentric- Pale Rose
Rolled Gold-Smoky Khaki Green
Rustic-Cranberryish Shade comparable to MAC Eyeshadow in Cranberry
Fertile-Matte Chocolate Brown
Personally I like the palette and I think it’s worth picking up! It has a nice healthy array of Fall colors plus if you’re a collector you’re going to want one!
The lipsticks released with MAC Colour Forms are unique and again, not something I have seen from MAC prior to this. They contain a lip color that surrounds a core pearl finished core. Let me tell you it looks really pretty but it does nothing. The color I selected was Rose Go Around and it’s a gorgeous maroon red while the inside houses a peachy, gold shimmering core. It’s lovely, truly it is but that core doesn’t really do much that I see? Once I apply I just get beautiful, pigmented off red lips. I’m not really noticing any gold shimmer to my lips….I’m not even noticing that the lipstick applies easier or has some sort of moisturizing benefits due to the new core. Nada. Very nice to look at and definately worth picking up as the shades available are very nice but don’t get it because you’re thinking that the core will give your lips a slick look. That’s not the case, it applies as any other MAC lipstick would.
And finally, something I think everyone always gets excited about, the piggies! It’s always very exciting when MAC does some new pigments. It’s not something they do often and I think it makes everyone very happy when they do release new shades! I had two of the shades already so I ended up with three total and a fourth that I thought I had as I mentioned but didn’t get. Damnit! Review for that one later.
Repromotes are Steel Blue and Jardin Aires. Steel Blue shouldn’t even be a repromote actually..I believe Pro sales it or at the very least MAC’s website carries it or stores. Unsure but it’s definately available around somewhere! Jardin Aires was released with a collection that the name escapes me at the moment but it’s a color you’ll definately want to grab up if you missed it the first time around. It’s a creamy beige, peachy shade!
Now new colors that have never been released prior to Colour Forms are Royal Flush, Tea Time, and Circa Plum. Get all three if you have the spare cash as they are very nice shades for Fall. They aren’t very Muse-like but they are very pretty especially Royal Flush which is kinda like a lighter shade of MAC Cranberry in pigment form! Cool!
Royal Flush-Cranberry Shade
Tea Time-Simply a light brown
Circa Plum-Plummy purple
I guess that’s pretty much it! All in all it’s a pretty nice selection of items from MAC. I’m not really jumping around doing cartwheels over it but I think it’s worth checking out for yourself because there are a few items in the collection that you might want to see, swatch, or buy! And as always I highly recommend the brush sets, these are such a killer deal and it works out to like $10 USD per a brush if you do indulge! Good one!
Head on into Nordstrom to check out MAC Colour Forms for yourself or click on over to Nordies site and see it for yourself!
Expect a review of the highlighter/blush powders and Glided Green pigment shortly!
Here’s a simple Face of the Day using MAC Colour Forms Warm Eye Palette. I used Chillproof as a highlighter, Tancentric all over the and creaase, Rustic on the crease and V, and finished off with Rolled Gold on the lower lash line. On my lips I’m wearing the MAC Color Forms Lipstick in Rose Go Around.

It’s that special time of the year again kids!
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!
That means you can head into your local Nordies starting July 18th to nab yourself some seriously awesome, unique beauty finds!
Over 100 brands are participating this year including MAC, NARS, Juicy Couture, Dior, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Philosophy, and many more!
These brands all offer up some Nordstrom Exclusive beauty finds that won’t be available elsewhere so it’s a perfect time to nab yourself a unique beauty find and some are even a Steal and a Deal!
Here’s some items that caught my eye that I might be indulging in this Thursday (you could have begun pre-booking these items as early as June 23rd but I normally like to wander into Nordies and see them for myself on the date of release!):
Bobbi Brown Cocoa Mauve Collection
A really fab collection of awesome Bobbi Brown finds can be found within the Cocoa Mauve Collection that is exclusive to Nordstrom. This kit is $65 USD and comes with a Travel Case, Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Cocoa Mauve Ink, Creamy Lip Color in Berry Mauve, Metallic Eye Shadow in Iced Mauve, and Blush in Sand Pink.
The total cost is a considerable discount from what you’d pay by purchasing each item separately as Bobbi Brown is far from inexpensive!
As you can see below the model is sporting the entire look and looking very posh! I particularly like this collection as the look created is very similar to what you can get using the Bobbi Brown Mauve Face palette I recently review. At $55 USD it’s a bit pricey for the palette so this is rather a nice deal at $65 USD where you get quite a good deal more to do a complete look including a gel liner!
This one is on my wish list!
Dior has released a special limited edition palette for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale which is entitled Dior Gaucho. I’ve VERY tempted by this but I have so many Dior palettes in my beauty arsenal collecting dust it would be a shame to indulge my inner demon of need. However, I am tempted. The colors are simply yummie for the upcoming Fall and at $55 USD the price is not bad at all!
Dior Gaucho Palette
If you’re wanting the palette I’d highly recommend doing your ordering from Nordstrom as you can get a free deluxe sample of Dior Black Out Mascara with your $50 purchase!
Now here’s one we have all been waiting on! Nordstrom’s Exclusive MAC Collection entitled Color Forms! Don’t lie to your Muse and say you aren’t excited about this collection because I’ll call your bluff! Ok, ok maybe it’s not THAT exciting! I’m actually kinda sorta excited about it. I’m very interested in the eye palettes as they are a design we haven’t yet seen from MAC and I’m intrigued by the lipstick as well! And I do so admit that the piggies get me hyper enough to warrant the use of a paper bag to catch back my breath after have a mild case of hyperventilation. It’s definately unique and I’m positive I’ll score a few items from this release!
As always this is a great time to nab some killer deals on brushes! I’ve always raved about how fab the brush sets are and now is a good time as any to nab some fine brushes at 75% off the original prices. Yes, some people do rant that the mini size aren’t as great as the full size but the Muse says don’t listen! The smaller size is just as good as the full size plus it’ll only cost you about $10 USD per a brush in these kits! That’s a sweet steal and a deal in my opinion!
The Muse says don’t feel too special when you pick up MAC Colour Forms for yourself. Although it’s advertised as a Nordstrom Exclusive it does make its way across the board and ends up in Singapore, Japan, and other locations outside of the US so definately don’t buy into the “exclusive” keyword with this collection.
I spy with my little eye a giant bottle of Philosophy Purity! My all time favorite size of Philosophy Purity is making it’s way to Nordstrom!
This little guy (I use the term little loosely) was only every available from QVC and sadly for the longest time it’s been MIA but now Nordstrom has gone and slapped an exclusive on it, jacked up the price by $10 USD or so dollars, and has made the Muse a happy Muse! I love this size. I go through gallons of this stuff anyway so why not grab the 32oz size! Hey, the economy isn’t doing so well right now why not indulge in a larger size cleanser right?
Philosophy Purity: The Massive Size
Wish list anyone?
Bare Escentuals never fails to make me gasp in absolute horror lately at it’s jacked up prices. But hey it’s the brand that I love to hate (price wise only of course). I love BE like I would a younger sibling, I like to talk down to it but that doesn’t mean I don’t care very deeply for it! Bare Escentuals In Fashion Nordstrom Exclusive is by far the most overpriced set I’ve seen to date from BE at $75 USD. I’m truly shocked. The price tag makes me cry out in pain however it doesn’t stop me from saying “ohhhhh look at the pretty colors” as drool drips from my mouth! The set looks quite breathtaking! This is an 8 piece set that includes Radiance All Over Face Color, Eye Shadow in Bahamas, Liner Shadow in Caviar, Blush in Escape, Lipcolor in Bavarian Cream, a Flawless Radiance Brush, Double Ended Precious Eye Brush, and a gorgeous clutch bag to store it all in!

The Muse likes the price! Definately on the wish list!
All in all I see some really great buys from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and plenty of ways to get more for less! I’ll be indulging this Thursday when all of these items hit stores (do check with your counter as they may already be available)!
Click on over and have a look at items that I didn’t mention in my post available during the sale!

MAC New View is near and dear to my heart right now as I am absolutely adoring the MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Duo which contains a shimmering side and a matte side! Obviously, I don’t have to explain why I love this now do I?
A few people e-mailed and commented asking what brush should they use with the MSF and I thought I’d do a quickie post showing what I personally use with mine.
If you have a spare chunk of change I highly recommend purchasing the Limited Edition Brush that released with New View which is the 189 Face Brush. It’s a fabulously dense brush that’s perfect for picking up a light dusting of powder and apply in select locations on your face without giving you a chalky, powder, made up look! This brush is particularly good if you sculpt and contour your face. I’m seriously lemming it just for using with my powders to give me light, natural coverage. However, the 189 is $40 USD and although I have a funny feeling I’ll be heading to MAC very soon to indulge my whim for an expensive brush there are alternatives.
I’m currently using the 190SE which is a similiar brush in style to the 189 but is much softer, less dense, and flatter rather than rounder. It’s truly great for picking up a bit of powder and blending onto face for natural, flawless, even coverage. This brush is actually a foundation brush but I have a second one I do use for my foundation and this one I use for placing powder just where I want it. It gives me a sheer amount of product that I can build up with ease while not appearing as if I’m wearing two tons of powder. It fits my under eye contour perfectly as well and works particularly great with Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder (Which I’m kinda liking lately!).
This brush is particularly a great mention since MAC is introducing the Nordstrom Exclusive Colour Forms collection shortly and the Basic Brush Set for $49.50 USD contains 5 brushes including the 190SE! That evens out to $10 USD per a brush where as you’d spend $40 USD and upwards for the full you can nab the mini version for way less!
I also use the mini kabuki which is not available at the moment from MAC but if ye seek ye shall find it on E-bay for $10 USD or so. It’s a mini version of the full size that is released with MAC Sonic Chic and I actually prefer this size to the larger as I feel I have more control on how much product I pick up! It’s ideal for buffing MSF onto the skin and creating a perfect canvas for makeup! Although it doesn’t offer as light a coverage as the 190SE does it works well at building coverage up and covering flaws and larger pores.
Both brushes are great for use with your MSF in the Muse’s opinion! Do look out for the 190SE in the new brush packs and check out E-bay to grab yourself the mini kabuki! Both work fabulously in conjunction with your MSF to create flawless, even, beautiful skin!
What do you use with your MSF?
