This Musings was inspired by a reader, Andreea, who was ranting about how much she hates being followed around in a shop and treated like a thief.
Andreea, I feel your pain me love.
So today’s Musings of the Day is all about counters and stores. Do you ever feel like you’re being shadowed by a rep or a store clerk when you’re at Sephora? Or at a counter?
Jump ahead for the Muse’s answer!
YES, YES, YES DAMMIT! All the bloody time. I hate going into Sephora because MA’s literally follow me around and keep asking if I need a basket. They watch me like a hawk! Everything I pick up, anything I touch, their eyes are constantly following me. It’s gotten so bad I rarely step foot into a Sephora anymore, I simply do my ordering online.
Truly I feel like a thief or something the way they follow me around. It’s not even the helpful type of following where they start foaming at the mouth about how great a product is. It’s simply following me and watching me as if I’m going to pocket a lip gloss or a blush.
It’s a rather uncomfortable feeling I rarely shop Ulta so I haven’t really experienced this their and counters do the same but mostly it’s annoying MA’s trying to score a sale. But Sephora…damn I feel like a thief. It’s really quite an uncomfortable shopping experience.
What makes me even more irritated is a bunch of teenagers will be destroying a display by playing with everything on it but no one looks at them or goes over to them but me they follow around in circles.
I find it weirdly gratifying to dump my basket on the counter and whip out my credit card. It’s like a strange way of thumbing my nose at them and saying, “SEE? I have money to buy this stuff…amazing right?!”
How about you?
Ever feel like a thief with a pocket full of money?
Tell the Muse!
With all the sales I’m posting today I was inspired to Muse about what I wish was on sale!
What do do you wish was on sale or who do you wish was having a sale right now?
I wish Sephora was having a sale right now so I can snag some Summer Collections at 20% off! I’m also kinda sorta wishing that Face Front Cosmetics would do some sort of sale as well since I want a few more of their blushes!
How about you?
Two bucks for a satchel? 4 for a box? Word.
Dudes, sit tight and listen to my tale of cheap!
Ok, last night I was wandering around Sephora and loaded my cart up with stuff I didn’t really need. As I was getting ready to check out I clicked up on my samples and proceeded to select the gift box option. I always get the box as I use the awesome Sephora gift boxes for storing bits and bobs. They are such sturdy boxes, they make a great organizer for little pieces of makeup and other items.
After selecting all my options and punching in my debit card number I was about to hit submit when I realized my total was a tiny bit off. Hmmm wonder why?
Turns out that gift boxes and satchels are no longer free at Sephora. For serious. Now it’s $4 USD for a gift box and a satchel is $2 USD. Ummm so not cool. Ew. I was being totally cheap so I removed the box option and was about to go for the satchel when I realized that they were charging for that too! Damn. Oh well I suppose I can understand charging for the box but the satchel was a bit on the ridiculous side.
To add insult to injury I had added the new Korres pack they have for free with your Beauty Rewards. I was quite chuffed about this and was looking forward to getting it. I had over $76 USD in my cart which more than qualifies for free shipping on the items I had purchased. When I added it into my cart they were charging me $5.95 USD to ship all my items but if I remove it shipping was free. What the frack? No likey paying shipping for something that’s free.
Anyway, this was my rant of the day about Sephora. I’m not loving all these changes but I suppose they are necessary in this economy but that doesn’t mean I have to like ‘em!
FloridaSweety is back with a brand new video about the best way to return items at a store! I posted one of her videos previously and it got a great response as I think everyone enjoyed her as much as I did. She’s always a great inspiration to get a good conversation flowing so this morning’s Musings is all about returns!
So how do you feel about returning makeup? Do you return it or just give it to friends if you can’t use it?
The Muse isn’t as assertive as FloridaSweety sadly so most times anything I hate ends up in the bottom of my closet in the beauty graveyard. I’m also really bad with receipts and keeping them, I throw them to the bottom of my purse and end up losing them etc….Sometimes I feel comfortable returning at Sephora but most times I don’t as everyone is terribly snotty about returns. Did you every notice what a hissy fit people have at counters and Sephora when you have to do a return? Even with a receipt they get all evil and snotty! Or is that me? This is one reason I absolutely adore shopping on Sephora’s website as it’s free return postage back and no one questions you about what was wrong with the product or gives you an attitude problem about returning it.
I really never could understand why employees get so upset about returns. It’s always a rather big deal whenever I return something and five different people have to come over and look at the item, the receipt, etc….
How about you?
Are you a “return queen”?
Do you avoid returning items?
Tell the Muse!
It’s ok if you want more bang for your buck.
There, there now the Muse understands exactly about wanting more for less.
Those crazy kids at Sephora are fond of releasing palette after palette of crazy cheap makeup all housed in huge compacts. Gotta love it right? Snag the Sephora Color Play Palette for $22 USD which includes a possible arsenal of beauty love.
- 36 Eyeshadows
- 12 Lip Glosses
- 3 Blushes
- 1 Bronzer
- 3 Applicators
If you desire more for less this could be a good purchase?! Maybe? Kinda….sorta….
Loving Sephora mega palettes?
Please Jebus no more of these!?
