As the Muse recalls the addiction to makeup started with the purchase of one Urban Decay Eye Shadow….
The downward spiral into makeup addiction hell began soon after!
All that glitter, all that pigment, all that bloody shimmer…who wouldn’t want to collect them all?
I’ve sinned many, many times with my Urban Decay Eyeshadow purchases….please forgive me? You know you loves ‘em too but it’s ok if you don’t want to admit it.
Your faithful makeup junkie,
Lover, collector, obsessed fool for Urban Decay Eyeshadow?
Tell the Muse!
Tis ok, you can admit your addiction to your fellow diseased cosmetic junkie! I won’t tell anyone shhhh….sometimes these things get out of hand.
The Muse was busy thinking about Urban Decay Cream Eye Shadows recently. Remember when she had mentioned that Urban Decay Cream Eye Shadows aren’t such a new item?
As I recall it these were around a good deal ago. Same packaging, same creamy texture, and a few of the same colors too I think! Of course, I didn’t mind a rerun as they turned out damn well this second time around. But I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly was different about these new shadows, if anything?!
Jump ahead to finally hear the mystery solved!
I remember having an Urban Decay Cream Eye Shadow in Midnight Cowboy many moons ago and another shade the name of which escapes me at the moment and of course when they re-released these I couldn’t help but wonder had anything changed? I also realized that MANY of you were wondering the same thing as I’ve gotten dozens of emails asking me, “Please Muse what’s the difference between this version and the old version?”.
Turns out I’ve finally solved the mystery! The new version of these shadows have “silicone technology”. Clever right? Who knows what the hell that is….I had to do a little homework and from what I understand the shadows do indeed have a brand new formula that has a special silicone texture which lets you blend well before it stays put. Another words these shadows stay “wet” and “creamy” a heck of alot longer than normal cream shadows so it gives you plenty of time to blend it up before it dries down.
This makes perfect sense as the texture is indeed an interesting loosely packed cream formula which doesn’t dry down right away. I both love and hate this because 1. it does make it easier to blend and 2. it kinda makes it a little bit difficult too! It’s all about packing on the right amount of color so you aren’t left with a streaky mess!
That’s the mystery solved in case you were wondering what it is that was different about this release and the past release.
Shout ‘em at the Muse!
Who was it that said if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! It was actually W.C. Fields..my mum would be proud and stuff for knowing that type of trivia! She’s some sort of big supporter of W.C. Fields….shrug.
Anyway. The moral of the story is that most times, with makeup, I don’t try, try again. If I use something and it fails to work the first time I’m normally tossing it across the room and sighing in frustration. This actually happened recently with the brand new Urban Decay Cream Shadow released for Spring.
Oh my god…so frustrating and irritating as hell to apply! I was at my wits end and trying again was NOT an option.
Read ahead to find out why…
Cream shadows are not a new product as Urban Decay actually had the line a few years ago but it was discontinued from the main catalog and slowly disappeared to wherever unwanted makeup goes (the land of misfit toys maybe?). I actually can’t recall trying the cream shadows back then but it’s fitting as I was on my passionate dislike of all things cream at the time.
As of recent the Urban Decay Spring Collection has reintroduced cream shadow to the scene in twelve new bold, vibrant shades. Exciting for me as I’m now Miss fan girl when it comes to cream shadows!
After getting my haul of cream shadows I quickly uncapped, swatched, and proceeded to be delighted by the awe aspiring vibrant shades! These were special! Shimmery, vibrant, bold, and pigmented makes a girl happy indeed. The formula manages to be creamy and thick yet also have a thin consistency…trying to explain exactly would do my head in just trust me that the formula carries some interesting aspects. All 5 shades I tried were extremely pigmented which made me quickly eager to test on my eye.
And test I did and disappointed I was. Oh my god! To say they sucked was an understatement. After layering the product on my eye I proceed to pat and blend with my fingertip which causes the product to streak, slide off, and create one big hot mess. I was so frustrated after 10 minutes of trying to get fifty layers of product to look somewhat presentable on my eye! No matter how I blended the shadow simply would NOT stay on my eye and presented a streaky strange mess. I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I was. I couldn’t help but feel amazingly impressed with my swatches but what the hell was going on during application? The shadows quickly sailed across the room and luckily didn’t land in the trash bin at the rate I was going.
After a week of sulking I did something I never do…I tried again. To my utter delight I finally figured out the correct and proper way to get the product on and boy was I ever happy because the finished results were stunning!
So there is a trick to application…listen closely and you’ll fall in love with Urban Decay Cream Shadows like the Muse soon enough minus her initial frustration. No fingertips required…that’s the key to application. Do not, I repeat do not try to blend with your fingertips! The shadows come in a tube with an attached sponge applicator you’re going to be very thankful for the sponge tip applicator as it layers product and creates a deeply pigmented, shiny eye look. To start the application prep with Urban Decay Primer Potion, wait to dry a few seconds, and proceed to layer Urban Decay Cream Shadow in the color of your choose onto your lid. Start slowly and follow your lid up to the crease with one layer. Wait a few seconds until the product is slightly dry and proceed to apply a second layer of the shadow, wait a few more seconds, and complete with one last layer. One layer is perfectly fine but I find that the product blends into the crease much better and creates a super intense eye look with three layers in place. With lighter shades you can pat a tiny bit with your finger tip but with darker shades don’t bother as it streaks so stick to using the sponge applicator for application. Possibly sounds strange and maybe difficult to do but the fact of the matter is the sponge applicator works fantastically well at applying the product correctly minus the streaking and mess I get with my fingers the first time around.
After using the sponge applicator for application I ended up with a fantastic eye look that was bold, vibrant, and shimmery! Yums!
As I mentioned I tried out five of the shades but I def want to add more to my little stash! The colors I tried were:
- Weeds-Smoky dark, forest green
- Whipped-Shimmering Peach
- Radium-Metallic Blue
- Sphynx-Shimmering pink with silver
- Midnight Rodeo-Pink champagne beige
Weeds was a particularly favorite as it gives me a smoked eye green eye look that lends a certain mystery to my brown eyes. I also adored Midnight Rodeo as it’s such a unique shade that’s a cross between pink and beige, I’m hoping we’ll see this in powder form one day soon! And finally I was loving Whipped as it has a ton of lovely shimmer and is quite different from any of the other peach shades in my collection.
All in all after my dramatic start I ended up falling quite in love with these and I’m Muse Approving them for purchase! Remember if at first they don’t work try, try again as the Muse promises after practice you’ll get the knack of application!

Allow me, if I may, to introduce you to two of the four new shades of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils.
Ohhhh greens and aquas just make me shiver in excitement! Urban Decay Spring 2009 is really shaping up to be something special as I’m testing it out this week and of course I was quite happy about new shades of the 24/7 liner! We all know how I feel about them don’t we?
I think there was some general confusion afoot about the release of two of the shades that this Muse happened to fall in love with instantly. The two shades I’m speaking about are Flipside and Graffiti but before I get into details allow me to give a brief rave about Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils.
Variety people, tis the spice of life. I really haven’t come across a better variety of awesome colors in an eye pencil like these particular eyeliners! They have a dreamy, creamy, formula that wears so amazingly well and literally melts onto your eye! I’m particularly thrilled about the selection of bolder, brighter colors to pair up with my vibrant eye shadows for a stunning look! I can go on all day about the incredible formula but if you’re wanting more deets do check out my review on Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencils by clicking here!
As I mentioned earlier on in the post I did hear some general confusion about the new color selections as people felt they were comparable to two colors previously released and available in the general catalog at the moment. Covet and Electric are the colors I am speaking about. I thought I’d clear up that Flipside and Graffiti are nothing like either Covet or Electric. Indeed the shades are somewhat similar but not an exact dupe of each other and in saying as such I do believe that picking up the newer shades, Flipside and Graffiti, is well worth your time.
Comparing Flipside to Electric you’ll notice that Flipside is a deeper teal blue shade heavy on the aqua base where as Electric is a more true aqua that’s brighter and lighter. Comparing Covet to Graffiti it’s easy enough to see that Covet is a deeper, smokier forest green where as Graffiti is bright true green.
As you can see from my swatches below the shades each have distinct personality and are quite individually unique.
If you’re want the best eye pencil around, look no further. Waterproof, creamy, dreamy, and simply gorgeous! The Muse Approves in a major way!
I’m absolutely loving Graffiti and Flipside at the moment and looking forward to creating some stunningly loud Spring looks with both!

Mildew…hmm sounds unappealing but eyeshadow in Mildew…likey!
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Mildew is an army green shadow, and like all green shadows, lends a certain mystery to the Muse’s eyes. It seems that dark brown eyes and green eye shadow are a marriage most divine!
Mildew is pretty fantastic considering it doesn’t have the heavy duty shimmer overload many Urban Decay shadows have. Hey, the Muse is all about tons of glitter but sometimes it’s difficult to clean up! Mildew is deeply pigmented, silky smooth, blends like a dream, and doesn’t contain any glitter, always a plus for the glitter haters of the world!
Pair it up with a lighter shade of green for a contrasting, popping eye look or use it on it’s own with a bit of black liner on your bottom and lower lash line for a mysterious, alluring look!
However, you use it you’ll be happy you hauled it as it’s truly a great shade!
Do you have Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Mildew in your stash?
