Check Yourself, Before You Wreck Yourself Makeup Mistakes

makeup mistakes

For the life of me I can’t recall the handle of this lovely lady in Florida who used to make youTube videos and go off on beauty and makeup tangents. She did one about how she checked herself in every single mirror of her house before heading out because each area had different lighting.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time you probably remember when I posted that video. It was truly brilliant and although at the time a little funny it actually gave some very sound advice.

I don’t have a ton of natural light in my home so, it proves difficult to see how a certain blush or eyeshadow or even my foundation would like in the sunlight. I know on more than one occasion my makeup looks great in my bathroom mirror but I head outside, look in my car mirror, and proceed to cringe as I have too much blush on or my foundation isn’t blended well enough.

I’ve made plenty of makeup mistakes in my time and most are publicly documented on this site for anyone to see. Embarrassing!

If I’m honest, I kind of sort of want to avoid it as I have so many fragrance mists and bath, body, and candle stuff to get through it would be obscene to stockpile more.

Tarte Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post but all opinions are my own.

Tarte Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette

The limited edition Tarte Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette ($45) was briefly available early last week on Tarte’s website and quickly sold out. This is a new collaborated eyeshadow and cheek palette that Tarte and youTube personality, Grav3yardgirl, worked on together. Grav3yardgirl or as her fans know her, Bunny, is not simply a makeup and beauty guru but a unique youTube personality that covers a range of different, funny videos.

I’m not a great expert on Grav3yardgirl as I’ve only watched two of her videos (I’m not much of a youTube watcher). I can’t really speak about the references of the names of the eyeshadows in this palette nor can I say if the overall look of the palette is what Bunny tends to embrace. I was surprised to learn she was from Texas as the entire swamp and gator theme had me thinking Florida or New Orleans.

I’m hearing Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop Palette has some incredible packaging and the same goes for Grav3yardgirl’s Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette. This is a really, really nice packaging palette. It’s made from a very sturdy plastic that resembles wood and features a gator with wings on the front. Inside is a very generously sized mirror that’s imprinted with, “Believe in Yourself. Love Yourself. Embrace Your Individuality.” Oddly enough the look card they include is a little weird as both the Day and Night look the same. From what I can see that is indeed, Bunny’s eye they used to the look card. None the less it’s a very nice presentation and a well made palette overall.

Tarte Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette28

Inside you’ll find bronzer, blush, highlighter, and nine eyeshadows as well as a get the look card and an eyeshadow brush for application. According to Tarte these are all limited edition shades but I believe many are easy enough to dupe from past palettes such as the range of purple eyeshadows. Although not exact dupes some shades are similar to past palette releases. There are some unique, stand out shades here though such as the Does This Thing Really Work? Blush, eyeshadow in Dogman and Sassy Bun as well as Sweet Tea Bronzer. If you’re looking for a palette with all unique shades that you haven’t seen from Tarte before I don’t think the Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette is exactly it. It is however, a really nice selection of both warmer (mostly warm) and cooler shades.

Overall, I actually liked this palette a lot but there are a few misses for me. According to the packaging the palette is made in the US for those interested in this

Here’s a look!

I Might Need Lancome Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighter

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Lancome Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighter

I’ll likely never use it but I might need Lancome Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighter ($30) just because. You ever have those just because makeup moments? I have too many of them I fear. “Just because it’s pretty I need it!” Oh lawd!

So, Lancome Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighter looking a lot like the new Bobbi Brown Shimmer Highlighter or even Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle but most importantly like Colourpop’s Blush and highlighter! Oh my god, that reminds me, my Champagne Pop haul came and I have to tell you all about it this week!

By I digress, let’s chat the rather cool, cushy, Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighters!

That One Time Clarins Lovely Lip Balm Energized Us All!

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Clarins Daily Energizer Lovely Lip Balm

Remember when Clarins used to have the best limited edition seasonal collections ever? I feel like lately Clarins gets more air time in Europe than the US. Clarins is one of those brand’s that gets overlooked sometimes and a lot of people don’t realize they have some fantastic color cosmetics like their amazing lipstick and gorgeous face powders.

I used to love their seasonal collections but lately it feels like many of those releases are released abroad but not within the US.

Sadness!

Sniff!

Clarins Daily Energizer Lovely Lip Balm ($20) is a new, limited edition sheer lip balm. Or as they call it a “do-it-all energizer”. People, if this stuff actually energized me I’d be buying it by the case!
