Contrary to all of today’s Musings about Fall and Holiday 2009, it is in fact still very Summer outside. To celebrate those long, hot days of Summer still ahead I gathered up a slew of Jouer Cosmetics to do a Summery look this morning.
Jump ahead for a peep, some swatches, and some babblings about Jouer.
The Muse remembers her first Jouer palette….it was a Holiday release…something bunny it was called. It had a cheek and lip stain and I was quite delighted and rolling around in fits of excitement how cute it was. Since that time Jouer has grown up, revamped, and come out with new, fun products. Although they have taken a new approach, the same fun design remains. Jouer Cosmetics, if you’re not privy to the brand, is a series of face, eye, and lip products that all “snap” together quite like a puzzle to make a customized beauty palette. Each piece features notched edges for sliding pieces together to create a little palette of sorts. Even a standard lipgloss has a deep set grove for snapping on shadows or a blusher for on the go touch ups. Pieces are also stackable for easy storage and portability. If you fancy a little organization with your makeup, Jouer has you covered.
The Jouer Cosmetics Summer Collection is simplicity at it’s best. Jouer is not making a huge splash but keeping to a minimal, sunny look that’s fresh and pretty. Thinking about it now it’s the ideal collection for toting away for a quick holiday getaway when you aren’t wanting to drag around a slew of makeup. The collection features all the key ingredients for glowing skin, sexy lips, and sparkling eyes!
For my look below I used the following products:
Jouer Cosmetics Lip and Cheek Tint in Poppy
Jouer Cosmetics Suntan Matte Bronzer
Jouer Cosmetics Mimosa Lipgloss
Jouer Cosmetics Tiare Highlighter
The look is fairly simple to create and gives a warmth to your face leaving it fresh and sunny.
Start out by using the highlighter on your eyes. You can use this just about anywhere where you want a bit of golden sparkle. I opted to use it all over my lid to add a hint of gold to my eyes. I followed up with the the lip and cheek tint in poppy on my cheeks for a flush of sheer coral. The tint can be used on lips as well as it’s moisturizing and pigmented. To add a deeper color to the tint I swept on the matte bronzer on suntan by applying to places the sun would naturally hit my face. The finished results of using the tint and bronzer together creates a sunny glow to my face. Finally I completed the look by topping with lipgloss in mimosa which shimmering golden pink that pairs beautifully with warm skin.
Overall, if you’re looking for a simple, sunny look for Summer do check out the Jouer Collection! I was quite impressed with the look especially since this morning I was rushing around and just wanted something minimal yet flattering. As you can see it’s quite a pretty look and just right for the warm weather!

If you haven’t tried Jouer prioer to this it’ll be a great little discovery and if it’s been a while since you checked them out you’ll be in for a delightful surprise with the many changes to the line!

Use the Greige shade to contour the eye by sweeping the shadow along the crease of the eye. Follow by sweeping the shade under the lower lash line and over the upper lash line. Use charcoal to add intensity.
A second option is to sweep the charcoal shadow over the whole lid and use the Greige to blend. For added intensity, apply midnight blue eyeliner along the upper lid lash line.

Ahh now this I can get on board with. I expressed my dislike of the MAC Holiday 2009 Face Collection earlier this morning but I’m suffering none of the same feelings for the MAC Holiday 2009 Lip and Face Palettes, these I can get excited about.
Jump ahead for the deets!
From the looks of things I think we can all agree these are very nice and very new. Unlike many years past with the standard flip top compact MAC is embracing a new style of eye palette and just an overall revamp of the palettes in general. It’s been a while in between updates and I’ve taken note that these are very different from prior releases, loves it! Also appreciating the babble design with the dominant pinkish, lilac base, very pretty and possibly mirror-like or shiny too?

Overall, I love that MAC too the initiative to revamp Holiday 2009. It’s fresh, different, and very exciting. I’m curious to see the face kits and very excited to see all the eye palettes. I’m looking relishing the idea of this release and can’t wait to get my grubby little hands all over it.

The gods are every so friendly when they bless us with products that can work in a multitude of ways. For example say you want your skin prepped, mattified, evened out, and protected from the sun. You’d need a few products to do that right?
How about one product….
See? It’s a tiny miracle when one product can multitask as my primer, even out my skin tone while acting as my tinted moisturizer, and providing me with SPF and sun protection!
Click below to hear all about my rave for the brand new Dr. Denese Defense Day Cream.
Dr. Denese SPF 30 Defense Day Cream will not only act as your daily dose of sun protection but also manages to act as a primer that mattifies your skin, a tinted moisturizer to even skin tone out, and holds the key to light Summer coverage.
Why oh why did I discover this so late into Summer? I do so wish I had this in my beauty arsenal since June at the very least. Now that I have it I’ll never let it go!
Not only does this provide me with my daily dose of SPF it also acts as my foundation and keeps my skin matte and oil free. The formula feels quite like a primer as it has that silicon-feel so this could easily work well at filling pores and smoothing your face out. It’s oil free and mattifies my face brilliantly although I probably couldn’t get away with this in the Winter when my skin is dry but right now when I’m a bit shiny it’s ideal. You can of course wear it with foundation or powder but I can get away with using it on it’s own. It’s slightly pigmented and tinted with melanine which is the skin’s own natural color pigment allowing for a natural skin color on any skin type as it self-adjusts to disguise imperfections. It’s not going to offer full on coverage but it does offer very sheer, light coverage, enough to even out my skin tone and give me a very natural, flawless finish. The effect is that of using a mineral powder in my opinion as it gives my face a slightly airbrushed look. The finished results could account for the formula which creates a barrier on the skin acting much like a primer. Many SPF’s are heavy and greasy so I love the idea of my moisturizer having built in SPF and acting as a foundation and primer all in one.
Overall, I absolutely love this stuff. Incredibly good. If you happen to fall into the category of loving lighter makeup during the Summer this is the ideal treat. It manages to perfect already good skin, wears long while offering a decent SPF for face, and leaves a matte and velvety smooth finish.
This morning’s FOTD was very minimal as you can see below. For my foundation, primer, and moisturizer I used Dr. Dense SPF 30 Defense Day Cream. As you can see in the photo my skin looks incredible (feels like it too!). It’s so strange as the product is very subtly tinted but it manages to create nice, even coverage on my skin.
Total Muse Approval for purchase.
Golly it’s August and we are already into Holiday 2009. Of course, most important of all, MAC Holiday 2009 debuts soon and Magic, Mirth, and Mischief is a foot…all those things yes but that also happens to be the name of the collection.
Jump ahead for more deets and photos!
Let’s not forget this is the full face color story and not the palettes so don’t get disappointed too quickly as I was. One thing I adore about this collection’s primary image is the fact that it is indeed very festive and holiday-like however I’ll proceed to moan about more…mineralized eye shadows? Can you say over done? But as I mentioned I won’t whine over much as the fact of the matter is that we still have the palette and gift set selection to look forward to and I’m positive those will be special. Worst than mineralized eye shadows would be the fact that many of these items are repromotes.
