I’m really late pumping out my review for MAC Neo Sci-Fi! I was on vacation when this popped into stores which ended up in a delay getting all the pieces I wanted and thus my very late review to you!
Bad Muse!
Sadly, by now you’ve read the reviews, seen the swatches, and brought the T-Shirt on MAC’s Summer trio release however you haven’t heard my thoughts on the topic and those are by far the most important of course…maybe…sorta….kinda……….
Upon Neo Sci-Fi’s original release I wasn’t doing cartwheels through the aisles as I’ve been known to do when a new MAC color story pops up! Last year’s Summer Collection wasn’t anything I was too excited about either so Neo Sci-Fi found it’s way to the bottom of my list of Must Have Summer Makeup.
However, upon getting my hands on some of the collection I quickly realized that many of the items released with it are truly gems and I’m happy that I grabbed a majority of the collection!
As you know the color story was released in three seperate parts. Neo Sci-Fi which includes all the blushes, eye shadows, and facial cosmetics, Solar Field which included the bronzers and a new pigment product called Solar Bits (review to follow on those shortly), and finally Future Earth which included some very interesting skin care items!
So I think I personally got the best of the best that was offered with this particular collection!
I ended up with four out of the five shadows released. Femme-Fi which is a frosty golden cream, Evening Aura which is golden peach, Magnetic Fields which is a black brown, and Expensive Pink which is a golden orangey shade.
Out of the four shadows Expensive Pink is most definately a must have in my humblest opinion. Although the title says pink and the MAC website says it’s pink I see it as more of a flattering golden, burnt orange. It’s sincerely a beautiful shade for Summer when you’re sporting some great golden bronzer or some beautiful peach or coral blush! Evening Aura is about three shades lighter but it compliments Expensive Pink beautifully and makes for a great lid color while using Expensive Pink in the crease of your eye! If you’re just looking to buy one shadow from this particular collection definately don’t miss out on Expensive Pink (even though it’s actually available all the time it’s still nice to have in the cool neon packaging!). Magnetic Field was a spur of the moment purchase. It’s a dark black brown and I thought it would go great with one of the Solar Bits I picked up plus it looks wonderful as an upcoming Fall Shade. Femme-Fi is a creamy golden beige that works great as a highlighter and in conjunction with Expensive Pink and Evening Aura you can do a nice eye look combining the three!
Speaking of packaging….at first I was a little dismayed at the really gaudy neon orange packaging but turns out it’s rather funky once you get used too it! I’m actually liking the unique look of these particular compacts and not minding the glow in the dark effect at all!
Now blushes I might have made a tiny mistake on. I got both but I’m a bit scared of X-Rocks. X-Rocks is a very deep dirty mauve that appears almost brown. With a light hand I may be able to work this well but I am quite frightened I’ll just look dirty with it on so I need to practice with this before stepping outside the door! The star of the blushes is definately Spaced Out which is a shimmery summer peach shade that looks stunning on! If you’re sporting a tan you’ll look simply gorgeous wearing this!
And finally I nabbed a few of the lip items. Pink Grapefruit lipglass was my number one product in this collection! It’s simply too yummie and it made it’s way onto my Summer Must Have List very quickly! I ended up purchasing a backup since it’s truly a unique shade. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend tracking this one down! It’s has shades of orange, gold, pink, and peach all combined into a unique and simply stunning shade! I originally only purchased one item from the lip stuff released but I later went back after a reader pointed out that Soft and Slow was a must have lipglass! Turns out she was right as it’s a rather beautiful shade of creamy plum that works well with all the shadows and blushes in the collection! Finally I couldn’t keep my hands off of Electro Lipstick. It’s a bright true orange that I’ll probably look ridiculously sporting but I don’t have any shades like it so I absolutely had to have it!
All in all Neo Sci-Fi has some serious winners and I’m happy I did manage to score some of it. At first I wasn’t going to bother to head into store to swatch but I’m happy I did as the collection has some terrific finds!

Sorry I got caught up for a second there! Sinatra does that to me!

Oh yea!
My review on Clean Summer!
Clean is one of my favorite lines of fragrance around. It’s one of the few lines of perfume that holds a wonderful linger, has a fantastic throw, and just contains unique, complex notes that just make me a happy Muse
Although Clean carries a rather hefty price tag you’ll be happy to shell out your hard earned money for some of their fragrances as they are Eau de Parfum not Eau de Toilette meaning long, lingering, gorgeous scent that lasts all day into the evening!
I own a majority of every single product Clean has put out thus far and I happily added the newest fragrance released from Clean to my collection recently entitled Summer! How fitting a name for a wonderful Summer fragrance!
Clean Summer is slightly different from previous Clean releases as it happens to be an Eau Frachie which means it contains almost no alchohol and is better for your skin and provides moisturizing benefits. Cool! A beautiful Summer scent that not only smells gorgeous but is also beneficial to my skin.
Although Eau de Frachie fragrances normally contain about 3% perfume oil this shouldn’t sway you from purchasing Clean Summer as the throw is quite good and the linger lasts throughout the day. I did three squirts on a humid day and I was left smelling yummie all day and well into the evening! I also happened to score about three compliments asking what I was wearing that day alone!
The notes in this are Crisp Bargamot, Rose Ice, Mirabelle Plum, Lily of the Valley, and Italian Limoncello. The fragrance is very complex and you won’t be able to pick out exact notes (unless you have a super sense of smell!) however I did find the dominant note was the Italian Limoncello. The lemon pulled through beautifully and just gave me that beautiful illusion of a fresh, cool Summer day. As humans we associate certain smells with certain events or times in our lives and Clean Summer happens to put me in the spirit of a lovely Summer day! It smells like sunshine in a bottle!
If you have a body chemistry that sucks scent and fragrance up you might want to consider layering Clean Summer with it’s matching Soft, Refreshing Lotion for added fragrance throw and staying power. The lotion has a gorgeous matching scent and has a light cooling effect on the skin!
I’m rather loving Clean Summer at the moment and I’m quite excited I got the chance to test drive it out. The Muse definately slaps a seal of Muse Approval on this one and adds it to the Must Have Summer Fragrance list!
I’ve only seen this on for sale at HSN so far. Click on over to nab it for $44.95 USD! This includes both the fragrance and the moisturizer as a kit! Not too bad a deal in my humblest!

I see a sneak peek below of the new Bobbi Brown Mauve Collection!
Excited?
Me too!
My love and lust for Bobbi continues lately after I spotted the the Bobbi Brown Mauve Collection for Fall. Although the Mauve Collection didn’t call out to me I still felt like I might need to test drive it out for myself before making any rash decisions about it!
I’m sure glad I did as I’m beginning to love it! Expect my review sometime this week!
For now I’ll leave you with the details about this collection to whet your appetite after my tease sneak peek on the collection above!
The collection consists of a wide variety of interesting shades that are most flattering for the upcoming Fall season. Although I’m not a huge fan of neutral shades the Mauve Face Palette has caught my eye for some reason or another. The collection pretty much focuses on the elegance of simplicity in purple, brown, gray, and mauve colors.
Not exactly exciting bold colors but as you can see from the model’s promo image she does manage to pull off a certain elegant, natural beauty look which is why the palette intrigued me. This is very grown up makeup for the Muse’s tastes.
Count me curious!
I’ll be reviewing some of the collection soon and you’ll be pretty surprised at what I have to say about it!
Bobbi Brown’s Mauve Collection is available now at your local counters and from Bobbi Brown’s website!
Laura, my little shopping angel, from across the pond has done the Muse a big service yet again and sent me over some Bourjois Paris 10 Hour Sleep Effect Foundation.
Thanks Laura the Muse hearts you! I’ve come to one of two conclusions. Laura either owns her own private jet or she has wings. She mailed the package on June 19th and it was in my mailbox less than 4 days later! Damn that’s some seriously quick airmail!
Gorgeous cards from Laura are happily littering my desk and fridge! *Mwah* Thanks Laura!
Anyway!
Since Bourjois Paris refuses to gift our lowly country with good cosmetics I must depend on the help of beautiful English people to get me what I need. Like Hi-Tech Rouge, 10 Hour Sleep Effect has not yet hit our shores. For shame! And the way things are going I fear they never will……….
Honestly, I can’t recall a time when Bourjois Paris had ever had a liquid foundation available here have you? Maybe I have to think back really far hmmmm…..Well maybe as they do have the Matt Lovely Foundation but aside from that….Nope can’t think of anything else!
10 Hour Sleep Effect is one of two liquid foundations Bourjois Paris has available within the UK at the moment the other one being Reboosting Collagen Foundation. Both make mighty claims of evening out our dull, uneven skin tone, covering dark circles with a single stroke, and making us look flawless and gorgeous.
Well the fact of the matter is they can claim all this and more but until I try it I won’t believe it.
Which is where Laura comes into play. She was kind enough to head on down to her local Boots and pick me up the Bourjois Paris 10 Hour Sleep Effect Foundation although the Reboosting Collagen Foundation seemed interesting enough the appeal of 10 hours of sleep in a simple pump sounded much more desirable plus I’m not yet sporting any fine lines on my face so it seemed like the more logical choice of the two.
It’s a very fluffy, soft, light foundation that gives excellent coverage while evening out skin tone and giving your face a beautiful flawless finish.
Can you believe it?
It’s true!
Did that sound too much like a commercial? Oops sorry!
It’s actually a very flattering and interesting foundation. Although the color is a strange light peach shade it actually does blends smoothly in and gives a wake up call to your skin! I was shocked how well it worked on my medium-fair skin!
I got the lightest shade available but it does come in a variety of colors to suit most skin types. Although the peachy look of the foundation had me wondering how well it would work on my skin tone turns out I had naught to worry about because it does wonderfully well at providing decent coverage while waking up my dull skin.
My skin normally goes dull in the Summer months due to a variety of reasons including the sun, weather, etc…..I’m always seeking a lighter foundation in during the warm weather and this is perfect. The formula is very light yet moisturizing enough for the dry spots on my face. It has a lovely, light fragrance and it comes in a wonderful little pump bottle which gives just the right amount of product when pressed!
I think it’s safe to say this could be called a bit of a Budget Beauty find as it’s under $20 USD or so. I don’t think you can get a cheaper foundation that actually works well for a better price.
I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re seeking a heavy, pigmented foundation as it’s more of a sheer, buildable coverage that gives skin a glowy look while creating a smooth, flawless foundation for your makeup.
Another words if you have major flaws to cover this probably won’t be something you want to shell out for! However, if you do like a light coverage that’s both moisturizing and offers light to medium coverage this is definately worth your time.
I’m slapping a hearty Muse Approval on it because I’m loving it at the moment! I like the finish of my face after use, I like how long wearing it is, I’m loving how it wakes up my dull skin and gives me a just scrubbed my face look, and I love the nice, inexpensive price tag!
The Muse says it’s worth having a look at!
Have it already?

A few weeks ago I had blogged about Napoleon Perdis’s demise from Sephora. Although I’m not the biggest fan in the world of his makeup I couldn’t resist a sale so I decided to grab a few odd pieces from Sephora’s website as it was all marked down 50%! Seriously, even if I hate something I can’t miss out on a steal and a deal. Am I the only one that feels that way? Hells you can sell me snow in the Summer if you said it was 50% off!
I purchased quite a few things but I’ll only be featuring one in this review today. For some odd reason or another Urban Decay has changed my outlook on bronzers in a major way. Since my love affair with Urban Decay’s Baked Bronzer has escalated I find myself checking out bronzers here and there on occasion.
So when I ran across the Napoleon Perdis French Riviera for $15 USD I decided I’d give it a whirl! Can’t lose much for the price right?
The set came in a rather nicely made bright box and included French Riviera bronzer, Madam Curl Peep Show Mascara, and Satin Lips Lip Gloss in French Riviera.
I’ll be honest and admit I purchased the kit because I loved the burnt orange glow of the lovely lip gloss! I couldn’t take my eyes off of it! It’s truly a fab shade! However, to my delight and shock I ended up loving the entire kit!
Who could have known I actually like something from Napoleon Perdis Collection! For shame on me for calling him a umpa lumpa! I take back any bad thing I’ve ever said about Napoleon Perdis…temporarily anyway!
The bronzer in this kit was a particularly scary orange, brown, oh my god I can’t believe it’s not butter shade that the Muse normally avoids however turns out that it works pretty good on my skin and gives me a healthy peachy flush!
The mascara it’s actually good too! This gets better and better doesn’t it? The mascara is a solid mascara that offers volume and nice curl with good staying power and no smudging!
And of course the best piece of the collection the gorgeous gloss which is pigmented and gorgeous! The color is a cross between burnt orange and a deep coral!
I simply love how three simple pieces of cosmetic created a gorgeous look on my face this morning! I used the bronzer on my face and eyes, curled my lashes and applied the mascara, swiped some of the gloss on, and I was looking fresh and Summer-like!
The kit is worth the $15 USD I spent on it! A few months ago at the original price I’d have passed it up quickly enough since I hate bronzers and the price wasn’t quite right enough to make me spill the cash on something that I was only loving the gloss from! But since it was on sale I’m happy to say this was a nice splurge!
I’ve seen a few Sephora’s with at least ten or more of these in stock so definately head on out and check it out for yourself!
Summer goes by way too fast as it is but when I start seeing updates on the new Fall Collections as quickly as the middle of June I begin to feel like its all over already!
Too Faced has updated it’s website with it’s new Fall Collection for 2008 already which is entitled Smoke & Mirrors.
The collection consists of several items ranging from gloss to eyeshadow but one item in particular that caught my eye that will likely make an appearance on my wish list is the new Smoky Eye Palette.
I couldn’t love this more for it’s simplicity value alone! The kit includes not only everything you need for the perfect smokey eye look but also three instruction cards for creating three chic looks! I always struggle with creating a simple, sexy smokey eye so the kit is ideal and idiot proof! The Muse likey makeup that doesn’t require alot of brain power!
$32 USD and you can be well on your way to creating smokey eye perfection with a little help from your friends at Too Faced. The Too Faced Smoky Eye palette is available now from Too Faced and Sephora.

Expect either some ranting or raving reviews on the Napoleon Perdis line shortly!
I did get some Eye Patrol eye shadows which I fell in love with a while back ago! At $10 USD each these were a steal!

I’ll be showing you more of the items I scored in my next few posts so be on the look out!

Although my eye is on MAC’s Sonic Chic color story I do admit to having a lemming for some of the shadows from Electro Flash!
However, I will try really hard to refrain as some of the colors look similar to previous releases of mineralized shadows! But damn it all that doesn’t stop me from having major “pokemon” collect ‘em all syndrome! I know I’ll end up with a few if not all of these bad boys!
Check it:
Are those some sincerely drool worthy shadows?

Good news! I still have left over goodies from Beauty on a Budget Week to get through so you’ll be seeing a few new reviews on US drugstore finds starting today with L’Oreal’s Telescopic Mascara.
Sadly, it’s almost all bad news for L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara. While on vacation this was available at every single duty free beauty shop I passed and although at the time I didn’t bother picking it up I realize now I should have listened to my original instinct that screamed “NO!”. I picked this guy up with my big beauty haul from Walmart recently for $8.99 USD and that’s about what it was available for at duty free but of course I wasn’t shelling out 8% in taxes to call it my own if I brought it from some duty free shop but ado at the time I didn’t bother.
One of the biggest flaws with this mascara is the applicator. Believe it or not I’m not going to go into a long rant just yet about the applicator being bad for application. Actually I’m going into a rant about the applicator being too delicate and flimsy. The applicator is sorta springy and loosely attached to the wand which makes it a big job to get the damn thing back into the tube without it snapping off completely. On a normal mascara day I’ll unscrew the top of mascara off, slip the wand out, apply, and slip it quickly back in. On a day using L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara it turns into unscrewing the top, slipping the wand out, applying a mess to my eyes, and struggling for five minutes to slip the wand back inside the tube without snapping off the brush head. This takes delicate, small movements to wriggle the brush back in without completely ripping or snapping it off. Since the brush head isn’t firmly secured onto the wand you could be staring at anywhere from 5-8 minutes struggling to get it back into the tube without risking it falling off while you struggle.
The delicate brush isn’t the only problem as far as the applicator goes. The brush head is a plastic applicator with ridges surrounding it rather than the traditional “brush” you’re getting more of a plastic wand with little spikes sticking out of it. It has a bit of a curve too it which leads you into believing that this will indeed apply the mascara well. Sadly, it falls flat of doing anything but making a big clumpy mess of your lashes. I’ve never successfully purchased a drugstore mascara that’s done anything in the ways of volumizing and lengthening. I normally end up with clumps or spiky lashes and with L’Oreal’s Telescopic Mascara that’s about the total of it all. Clumps, check. Spiky lashes, check. A big mess, check. check. Although it applies crummy the formula itself does deserve a rave as I experienced no flaking, no smudging, and just generally good waterproof lasting power all day long!
L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara has alot going for it. Chic outer packaging, great price, good long wear however it falls short in the most important areas. Application isn’t easy or foolproof, just messy and flaws in the design provide a potential money trap that you can easily fall into if you’re rushed and push hard to get the wand back into the tube! $8.99 down the drain if the brush head snaps off!
All in all this particular mascara needs a whole lot of improvement before I decide to pick it up again! Pass on it, the Muse has seen much better!

Finally something to rave about on the Beauty and a Budget front! Meet the 5 piece Brush Set from Eco Tools!
This set is $10.99 USD and comes with 5 great blushes plus a cool brush roll to store them in when traveling! I’ve been testing this little brush set out all weekend while I was away for a few days to celebrate the 4th of July and I’m happy to report it’s worth dishing out your $11 dollars for! It’s rather a nice little set of tools that’s perfect for traveling with plus it has the added benefits of being earth friendly so you’re not only doing something good for your wallet but also helping your enviroment out!
The set comes with a blush brush, concealer brush, lash/brow groomer, liner brush, and eye shadow brush. Each brush is made from synthetic bristles and 100% Cruelty Free. Although these are synthetic you won’t notice much of a difference aside from the fact that they are softer than your average brush. The softness does not take away from the fact that they are dense enough for ease of blending and holding product on the bristles. Unlike other cheaper brushes I’ve tried these do not shed and the bristles stay firmly on the handle where they belong and not shed all along your face when using! They don’t sport a funky odor either the way some brushes do which is a total plus in the Muse’s opinion! The handles are made of quality bamboo which also has a low impact on the earth’s resources as it is a highly sustainable plant…who knew?
No, they aren’t MAC but they are pretty bloody good for those of you who are both consious of your Beauty Budget and green friendly. The price rounds out to about $2 USD or so for each brush included in the kit so you can’t really good wrong by trying them out. You won’t be disappointed as they are good quality brushes at a low cost.
My favorite of the brushes was the nicely rounded blush brush which I used to apply both powder and blush. It’s wonderfully soft and silky!
The other brushes included are just as good and I’m loving the little hemp brush roll that makes traveling with these simple. Simply place each brush in a slot, roll, tie, and away you go. The roll holds the brushes safely and allows you to travel with the set without splitting the hairs of the brush or causing any damage to the brushes!
I can’t help but be excited as brushes that are not only good quality but cheap! The Muse likes these alot and recommends nabbing a set for yourself! Click here to see what other cool products EcoTools has available!
I’m a rocker chick. Always have been, always will be so of course I definately want Bare Escentuals new Tutorial Kit entitled Rocker Eye!
Although I’ve been down on Bare Escentuals lately I will say that this particular kit caught my eye and I’m wanting it rather badly so expect some sort of raving review shortly!
I generally enjoy the tutorial kits that BE puts out as I’m all about simplicity lately! The Tutorial line contains all you need to create certain eye looks plus nifty, easy instructions to idiot-proof your way to gorgeous!
I’ve tried one of these kits before and was quite happy with the easy to follow instructions and quality of the products included. Although the products have raised in price since my original purchase I’m still a lover of each one released.
The Bare Escentuals Rocker Eye is $38 USD and contains 1980′s and Rockstar eye shadow, Black Leather Liner, and a Double Ended Brush for application!
Rock on \m/! The Muse is all over this one!
