Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 A Naughty Little Gourmand

I purchased this item and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post.
5 stars out of 5

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 has gotten some serious airtime last year and into this year on social media and across beauty blogger and influencer accounts. Although, it’s gaining popularity now it’s actually been part of MFK’s permanent catalog since 2015. The fragrance was created by Francis Kurkdjian and contains notes of jasmine, saffron, cedar wood, and ambergris. To me it plays a starring role in the Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrance line.

I’m late a comer to my love of BR540 as I purchased my first bottle in 2018. I avoided it for a long time and never bothered smelling it because the cedar wood, ambergris, and saffron notes didn’t appeal. I felt positive it would be a spice bomb or would smell as deep and dark as Thierry Mugler’s Angel. I personally have a love hate relationship with Angel and I really have to be in some sort of mood to wear it. It’s absolutely filthy and really dark. It’s definitely one of those forbidden cotton candy scents (as is Baccarat Rouge 540 but on a way better scale).

As with most luxury fragrances Baccarat Rouge 540 doesn’t come cheap and bottles start at $300. Today is actually the last day of the cosbar.com sale and this scent is on sale so, if you’re wanting it now would be a good time to grab it. It’s also, on sale at Saks.com for 10% Off!

Baccarat Rouge 540 comes in two flavors which are Extrait de Parfum and Eau de Parfum. Both smell the same but obviously the sillage is different and of course, the prices. Most Parfum and Extrait formulas use anywhere from 12% to 30% perfume oil. Extrait is obviously the highest level of perfume oil you’re getting. I do like the Extrait a bit more. Both smell the same but I get a bit more depth, longevity, and throw from the Extrait.

My nose is not experienced enough to detect each note here. I can’t say I smell jasmine or saffron or cedarwood, nor do I smell the darkness that comes along with ambergris.

A Love List: Pushing Myself Too Hard, Super Hyaluronic Acid, The Little Mermaid, and Chocolate Covered Gummy Bears

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Good Morning dear friends! Is your week going well? Have you been busy? Are you ready for the weekend? Have you been drinking enough water?

I’ve had a very busy week! I think I went through about sixty zoom calls this week and a million zoom meetings. My head is about to explode. I always know I’m getting tired when I start replying to comments and I’m missing words. I fail to catch myself until much later and I’m positive the person I’m replying to is thinking, “WTH did she say?”

Ok, so, I brought myself the Coach x Disney Belle Crossbody Bag and Wallet. I miss trips to Disney so damn much (damn you COVID!)! Speaking of Disney did you catch the Little Mermaid Collection Makeup Revolution that launched today. I’m holding out because…they also, have a Beauty and the Beast one that’s out in the UK which I’m positive will make an appearance in the US soon! I’m going to try hard not to do Ariel’s Collection and wait on Belle’s no promises I’ll succeed.

Oh by the way, this week’s snack of choice is Chocolate Covered Gummy Bears! Cheat weekend is looming so I’m totally eating some chocolate covered gummy bears. I’m not admitting my bad behavior but I may or may not bite the heads off to see if they are red or not (I really like the red ones). Never tried them? GO BUY SOME NOW! They are so nommy. I actually can’t find them outside of movie theaters but there’s a pastry and chocolate store in Rhinebeck and when I head upstate for the weekend I’ll grab a small bag.

So, you know I changed my retinol recently right? I’m trying something new and it’s made my skin a bit dry and flaky. I’m thanking the skincare gods this week for Hada Labo Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Acid! It’s my favorite HA anyway but this week I’m having a super love fest with it. It really helps smooth out those dry areas.

And finally, I’m learning to embrace my push myself too hard good nature. I do the most. I mean, I’m really disciplined with myself. I always tell people to take it easy and go slow, relax….but I never take that advice for myself and I’m not really unhappy about that. I think I like myself best when I’m pushing myself harder, going the extra mile, doing things the right way and not the easy way. I dunno if that makes sense. I like rules and I like following them. I’ve started to be unapologetic about pushing myself hard to be my best. It’s not a bad thing right? It’s just sometimes I get grief from family and friends about how disciplined I am about everything. But I’m all about pushing myself! I can’t say sorry for that.

Anyway, these are the things I love this week.

Share your love list….! I love reading them.

Be good humans today!
