According to Google Dermaplaning at Home or How to Dermaplan was one of their top searches in 2020. We’re obviously all over here bored in the house when we’re searching out ways to shave our faces. I’m kidding 🙂
Actually, I’m sort of shocked it was trending search in 2020 as the dermaplaning trend seems like it faded out at the start of 2020. Remember when everyone on youTube was like, “Go get yourself a Tinkle Razor and start shaving your face!” Do you ever wonder if dudes sit around and notice videos like these and think, “WTF are these girls doing when we aren’t with them?”
I’m actually old school and was always told that if I shave hair would come in thicker and more coarse. Oh my god! Noooo!
I’ve also always been embarrassed about the fact I’ve had to thread my brows and my upper lip. I do hope new moms today teach their daughters that sometimes hair in weird places is a part of normal life and there’s nothing to be ashamed about. My mom always comforted me about it but I think the media just made me think something was wrong with me because I had such full brows.
But yeah, shaving my entire face? It’s not really something I’ve ever considered. We all get peach fuzz here but dermaplaning is all about just taking a razor and going to town all over your face.
What is Dermaplaning?
Well, contrary to belief it isn’t shaving your face but it is shaving your face. Technically, it’s not really supposed to remove hair! Sure, some peach fuzz will get removed in the process but Dermaplaning isn’t a technique you’d use to groom your brows or remove our mustache. It’s actually a technique that uses a small exfoliating scalpel to remove the top layer of your skin. It’s best performed by an esthetician but youTubers got a hold it and suddenly people were doing it at home with a little facial razor. The technique involves gently scrapping the razor down your face to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz. It’s not something I’d recommend for sensitive users but drier skin types should appreciate it. There are actually plenty of dermaplaning you can purchase that do the job much better than a razor plus the tools are bettered suited to the job like the Dermaflash ONE Exfoliation & Peach Fuzz Removal Device! But most folks just use a plain old Tinkle Razor or those Kitsch Pro Dermaplaner Razors!
