L’Occitane Files for Bankruptcy

News broke today that LOccitane has filed for bankruptcy but don’t panic quite yet as the brand is still thriving in Internationally and this does not extend to Elemis. I hate to say it I’ve been sitting here waiting to see who would hit the chapter 11 button first. 2020 was a rough year and a lot of brands struggled to stay afloat. Beauty brands in particular are guilty of setting themselves up for failure with an endless round of releases that go on sale within weeks of launching. The overly saturated market makes for a hard sell when everyone is sitting around waiting for that next big sale. There is no value in limited edition releases anymore.

LOccitane bankruptcy isn’t about poor sales though. Their problem is they are having issues maintaining the rent on their boutiques. This understandable as many L’Occitane Boutiques are in desirable locations especially here in Manhattan and with quarantine and lock down their store locations sales are suffering. Apparently L’Occitane has made efforts to address unmanageable store lease terms without success. By filing for Chapter 11 they hope right their issues with brick-and-mortar locations.

It’s hard to say if this will improve L’Occitane store front presence. At some point it may be a brand we see online only but for now this is their first step at righting their issues with physical locations.

“Today’s action is a pivotal step forward in achieving the full potential of L’Occitane’s U.S. business,” said Yann Tanini, managing director of L’Occitane North America. “Over the past year, we have moved aggressively to address Covid-related challenges head on, developing innovative new ways to connect with our community and continue to deliver the extraordinary L’Occitane beauty experience that our customers know and love, all while accelerating the essential transformation of our store footprint already underway. We look forward to working collaboratively with our landlords to achieve partnerships that make economic sense in this current retail environment and best position our marquee brand’s boutique offering for years to come.”

“Just like in L’Occitane’s other markets around the world, we look forward to continuing to serve our loyal clients here in the U.S. in our boutiques, online, and through our amazing team of passionate beauty advisors. As always, L’Occitane is focused on creating a delightful and personalized customer experience, and we will continue to develop innovative products with unique benefits. Our unwavering commitment to sustainability and ambition to make a positive impact in the world are stronger than ever. We appreciate the continued support of our employees, community, and partners, and we are excited about the bright future of our U.S. business.”

Regardless, of the filing, L’Occitane group which also includes brands like Elemis claims they have ample liquidity to support the brand and fulfill obligations to customers, supplies, and employees.

They actually have 166 locations within the US and plan on closing 23 of them which isn’t a lot at all considering the current pandemic. Last count they had 3,000 retail outlets in 90 countries.

So, yeah, no need to panic just yet. L’Occitane seems like they are in good shape for the future and the filing may fix some wrongs they are currently having.

I’ll keep you updated on the filing.

Which brands do you think will be having issues with sustainability this year?

Just Over Here Writing a Love Letter to Ofra Pressed Banana Powder Compact

I purchased this item and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post.
5 stars out of 5

Ofra Pressed Banana Powder Compact ($16) is a matte banana yellow shaded powder that can be used to set concealer and brighten up darkness under eyes (use it on your face too if you want but for me it’s all about the eyes!).

I picked this up for $8 bucks during an Ulta sale and now I can’t recall how I loved my life without it. As you may know my two ride or die concealer setting powders are Ben Nye Banana Powder and Hard Candy Sheer Envy Bake, Brighten & Set Loose Finishing Powder but they have some competition now with Ofra Pressed Banana Powder Compact!

I Might Have Spent Ten Minutes Searching for the Ingredients Label on a Jar of Milani Avocado Makeup Melter Cleansing Balm and I Have Proof!

I purchased this item and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post.
3 stars out of 5

Milani Avocado Makeup Melter Cleansing Balm is a new, permanent solid cleansing balm that contains avocado oil, squalane, and shea butter to gently break down makeup even waterproof mascara quickly and easily. This cleansing balm launched with the new Milani Skin Fresh Collection for Spring 2021 and is a retake on their Fruit Fetish Collection from Summer 2020 featuring a variety of fruity themed makeup and skincare infused with peaches, blueberries, cherries, or avocado! The collection popped at up Walgreens initially and now Milani’s website also has it available. I’m 100% sure that we’ll see it at mass retailers within the next several weeks as well.

I actually had this really weird senior moment where I spent ten minutes trying to find the ingredients label on the jar. Yesterday was kind of a crazy work day for me plus add in the fact I was walking around the house in crooked eyeliner (if you follow me on Instagram and social media you know) and I guess this made me have a brain fart moment where I simply couldn’t understand that I just had to flip the jar over. Ummm yeah…! I swear when I’m stressed out I just lose my entire brain. I literally sat there at my vanity and picked off the top label because I thought it was under there and I proceeded to look all over the jar except for the bottom. What is WRONG with me? The most hysterical part of the situation was I was sitting there muttering to myself about how they couldn’t not put the ingredients on something! How could they sell it like this? Isn’t that illegal? I had a running dialog with myself as I tried to locate the label!

See? PROOF! I removed the whole label! Proof I’m bonkers!

So, yeah, that’s my story about how I had a weird mental break yesterday.

Moral of the story? Sit back, breath, take a moment, you’re going to be ok!

🙂

Milani Peach Glass Skin Primer Review & Swatches

I purchased this item and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post.
3 stars out of 5

Milani Peach Glass Skin Primer ($10.99) is a new, permanent facial primer that launched with the new Milani Skin Fresh Collection for Spring 2021. This is a moisturizing facial primer that promises to provide a glass-like skin finish that’s smooth, pore-free, and free from imperfections while moisturizing and extending the wear of foundation. It contains Jojoba Oil as well as peach and lemon extracts! I know! I know! I cringed too when I saw it contained lemon but more on that in a little bit.

The glass skin trend stared in Korea a few years ago and it started to gain momentum here in the US about three years ago. I don’t quite think it’s a trend that’s really run it’s course within the Western market. It’s not something that became majorly popular like when BB Creams started to pop up here. I’m not entirely sure why it never caught on because who doesn’t want clear, luminous, transparent skin. I am of the mentality that skincare is the direct route to glass skin however, you’re going to run into a few makeup items that pop here and there that promise you the same such as this Milani Peach Glass Skin Primer.
