The Best of Musings of the Day

It’s been a while since we did a Musings of the Day but they evoke such great conversation and we’ve had some insane topics that have popped up and even some funny ones.

Here are some of the more popular ones! Feel free to rejoin into the conversation and give no life to an old post thread.

Feel free to join in this old posts! It’s always great to hear what others are thinking and watch you interact with not only me but OTHER readers.

Hope you’re having a fab day!

Mine got a little crazy today!

P.S. Why did Collin go from sophisticated artsy boy wonder to pot head? Ugh so disappointing! Team Done with Awkward!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

    Aggressive Sales Reps!
Felt once for a LG phone chocolate , it was a worthless phone

Honestly, would you take a waterless shower?
Yes, i had to, for a week, after my gallstone operation. I used baby wipes instead.

Last year we mused how our skincare has changed with age. Has yours?
It has but not sure if its an improvement

Where do you shop beauty? Ulta? Sephora, Online?
I used online in one online store we had. but no i prefer to see myself at the the store.

Can you and do you even want to go without makeup?!
I usually go outside without make up no biggy for me, but cant leave the house without a moisturiser on my face.

What are your packaging pet peeves? Any makeup packaging that really brings the FAIL for you?

If the break to fast, when the are hard to open,

ok so you did not just reference not one but two of my semi secret viewing pleasures Zombieland (my go to survival guide for the zombie apocalyspe) and awkward (team “cenna” had so much promise smh) Your general awesomeness knows no bounds.

    • the Muse

LOL amber 😀 <3! you made me laugh! I love Zombieland totally the survival guide for the zombie Apocalypse! I agree 🙁 boo....! I don't get it. Why is he suddenly a pot head?! it's not a bad thing but why so random?!

  • kate

Muse, I think as you get older it is easier to say NO to the pushy costmetics sales ladies. I was with my daughter in Bendel and she was amazed at my technique!

Um, I love that you watch Awkward. And I agree that this season has been pretty rough. Season 1 Awkward was pretty fantastic even if it wasn’t exactly the show I wanted it to be. But TV shows have a problem writing female protagonists who are legitimately ordinary, boring, misanthropic, unpopular, etc. Inevitably they seem to be going out on a ton of dates and getting boyfriends and then their love lives become super complicated. They usually have a special skill that eventually makes them very successful. And then more often that not the show becomes a mess.

But really I think the issue was that they rushed Matty and Jenna and then they weren’t really sure where to go with the plot.

    • the Muse

😀 it’s a great show! or was…! I agree…for some reason the dorky, nerdy cheeks are written like idiots! Agreed. It seemed like the relationship finally was going somewhere and suddenly they cut if off…introducing Colin seemed cool, he was more fitting for Jenna, less jock, more artsy, but now he’s a pothead?! makes no sense. And by the way her friends are SUPER annoying she has a right to be pissy with them!

      • Al

I haven’t watched much of it this season, but the little bit I have seen is ENOUGH. Seriously, why is Jenna such a ? lol. And why are her friends so damn annoying this season? I don’t know. I’m so done with that show. This always happens with every show I watch. Once the first season ends, its all downhill from there…

Neat idea to revisit old posts.

Also, I’m with you on Colin. Team Done with Awkward.

    • the Muse

i actually liked him…i hated that they didn’t really give the matt thing a chance to develop (felt so rushed and cut off) but Colin was cute and he was more like Jenna…but now he’s a pothead?!

  • CatG

They made Colin so weird now! I just don’t get what the writers are doing with his character!

    • the Muse

me either he seems smart, cute, polished, popular, and slightly less jock and more easy going thinker than Mattie and now he’s a pot head?! eh!? cutting class every day and lighting up? It’s so at odds the way he was originally portrayed!

  • AmandaM

Great idea to revive some of the older discussions! I’d love to participate! So here are my thoughts on the topics you posted:

Aggressive Sales Reps-UGH! That turns me right off! I’m much better about setting limits now that I’m older. It helps to be an educated consumer and have a sense of what you want when shopping. If a sales rep is too aggressive and rude, I make a point NOT to buy from them. Conversely, if a sales rep is polite and knowledgeable, I most likely will buy from them-even if I didn’t intend to buy anything on that particular shopping trip.

Waterless shower-No thank you…only if absolutely the last resort! I guess it would be better than nothing!

Skincare changing with age-Most definitely. I’m more worried about things like fine lines, enlarged pores, discoloration, and dullness now. Never gave those things a second thought when I was younger. Back in the day, it was cleanse, moisturize, and eye cream…done! Now I’m using products like serums, retinol, etc…And, seriously, what’s the deal with getting fine lines AND acne now! What the heck?!

Where do I shop for beauty?-I have to say, mostly on-line. When I started my serious beauty habit, there were NO stores near me-only counters in department stores. I now have easy access to Ulta & Sephora stores, but I still tend to buy on-line. Although I do tend to frequent my local Ulta store because the SAs are very nice there for the most part. I will venture to my local CCO periodically too.

Go without make-up?-I will go without makeup if I’m just going to be home for the day or run a few errands locally, but for the most part, I like to do my makeup if I’m going to be seen in public! I just like feeling more finished and put together when I face the world at large. Plus, without makeup (particularly mascara), I look so tired. And it’s funny…I very rarely wear makeup on certain vacations for some reason. I bring it, but then wind up not using it. Take my last cruise-I brought my makeup bag, but wound up not wearing not a stitch of it the whole time, even to dinner! It probably helped that I had a bit of tan/tropical glow!

Packaging pet-peeves-I HATE cheap, flimsy plastic packaging. I also dislike when packaging is hard to open. I don’t want to break my nails to open an eye shadow compact. By the same token, I’m not a huge fan of the push button opening system. I think it’s too easy to break, and then the compact won’t close-I’m looking at YOU expensive Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder! And finally, I really dislike packaging with a rubberized finish like Nars uses. It gets dirty so easily, and then is virtually impossible to clean. YUCK!

Thanks for letting me post my musings, and I hope you have a fab day too! 🙂

Hey Muse, I’m a little late to this post so I hope you see this. Not on topic for the list in your post but this seems like a good place to share a little something. Next time you’re looking for makeup storage check out http://www.acrylicmakeup.com. I am NOT affiliated with them in any way but I bought one of their organizers and it’s so great I just had to share. It’s made of very high quality heavy acrylic with smooth corners and edges, and comes in several different drawer options. The drawers have handles and the unit has a flip back lid. There are also organizers inserts that come with it and you can order additional ones. It’s a more affordable version of the Clear Cube. I had been looking for one of these and just couldn’t go with Clear Cube because it’s stupidly priced for what it is and it’s touted as the “Kardashian” makeup organizer. No way anything Kardashian related is going on my list! Anyhow, this company is based in FL and the organizers are made in the U.S. which is a big deal for me. I try very hard to purchase U.S. made products as much as possible. Their customer service is beyond excellent. They respond to emails so quickly you won’t believe it. After I received mine, the owner sent me an email just to check and see if it had arrived safely and asking how I liked it. I thought that was a very nice touch and something you don’t see these days. The one I bought has 6 drawers and is 15H x 11W x 11D. I really need something wider so I emailed the owner and asked if they are considering expanding the line and offering more options. She said yes, but they had been so busy keeping up with current offers that they haven’t had much time to develop product expansion. But here’s the cool part; when I told her why I was inquiring she offered to make me one with the same number of drawers and the same configuration, but in the width I wanted. How’s that for customer service? I keep mine in a cabinet under my vanity because I hate stuff sitting out, but these are beautiful enough to display anywhere you want. I highly recommend this product and just wanted to share that with you for the next time you are tackling your storage issues.

    Aggressive sales reps… *sigh*

I’ve been working in retail for a looooong while now, and I pride myself on being a genuine sales associate. I never shove products down my customers throats, it’s awful. I literally treat customers the way that I want to be treated! I sure as heck know when I’m out shopping on my days off I don’t want someone bullying me into buying things. I absolutely understand from a retail perspective having to meet sales goals and such, but forcing products and protection plans on a person isn’t the way to do it. Creating good customer relationships is the way to go! When someone comes back and says “Oh you helped me last time, I loved what you sold me! Can you help me again?’ that’s just the best feeling in the world. :]
