Hauled It: Kat Von D Lightning Sheer Lip Gloss Review and Swatches

Who hit up the Kat Von D sale at Sephora? I know I couldn’t resist
for long. Those shadows and glosses were singing my name, literally.

Jump it for my swatchies and review.

$9 bucks each, super stealing and dealing. Likey that deal. What were they $18 bucks before? I can cope with a half price steal.

Kat Von D Lightning Sheer Lip Gloss isn’t anything to write home about actually. I like them, alot, but the formula isn’t going to blow your mind.

First off packaging is the awesome. I love Kat’s packaging, it really is rocking and quality. The gloss tubes have a swirl rose tattoo design and a rubber cap (a la NARS) with Kat’s name “inked” on it. Second rave, the flavor. Oh the flavor! The glosses are cherry flavored and simply delicious.

Now the gloss itself is a bit dry. You know those glosses right? The ones that don’t apply with a glossy finish. Mmmm kinda disappointed but honestly slap a little lipstain on and layer up and you should be good. As in I’d be disappointed if this was $18 I set down but quite happy it was $9 so no complaints! They have a shimmer finish and once layered on my lips they look quite fine.

Overall, must say it’s a likey. As I mentioned at $18 I’d prob be ranting a tad more about the formula but for $9 bucks I’m in lust.

Go haul, worth the pick up at this price!

I like the packaging but the glosses don’t seem to have a lot of pigment.

    • the Muse

dd naaa it’s kinda a dry gloss, not glossy or shiny or pigmented but you can layer it very well and make it pop! for the price I likey 🙂

cecile…omg do you near moral support? makeup ban stinks! *holds you* 🙂

        • the Muse

LOL me too cecile. I actually try to ban myself and was doing somewhat good a few months ago but it went downhill really quick sad sigh!

I was tempted yesterday when I ordered a couple things from Sephora, but I didn’t do it.
To be honest, the duos and liners never impressed me much. The duo was okay…but not worth $20. Even at $10 I held off, though I had my eye on Riff Raff (names get me everytime- reminded me of Rocky Horror XD). I decided to get something I know I NEEDED. I really only purchased the UD Grind House sharpener, because my other sharpener was killing my 24/7 liners…and I got my birthday gift, a deluxe sample of powder and some samples…excited to get it!
I probably will not get the glosses, but my next trip to the Sephora store will be for her palettes (Beethoven and Memento Mori). They are much better than the duos.

hey marina! good on you! 😀 I wish I had more willpower. The liners I’m not into either but couldn’t pass up the shadows, not sure if I love yet as I haven’t tried but they LOOK incredible in the pan. oh heck yes are you a RHPS fan? I’m the biggest fan evers! 😀 what was the deluxe sample of powder you got!? Can’t wait for Memento mori! Looks incred!!!!!!! haven’t ordered yet but wants!

      • Marina

Huge RHPS fan 🙂 I’ve been dying to go to this event they have every year around Halloween in my town, but I never end up going! They put on the play and then they play the movie! I’ve pretty much decided that for Halloween this year I’m dressing as Columbia.
The powder was Laura Mercier’s Shine Control. It looks interesting, and it’s a nice size sample. Plus I’m excited for the Beautiful Eyes (I think that’s what it is) birthday thing. I’ve never really tried Sephora’s makeup, so I’m excited to test the stuff out!
As for the shadows, they are gorgeous in the pan and the packaging is soooo kick butt! I have it in Livewire, and I used it for about two months straight after I bought it…but they pale in comparison to the palettes. So I figured I’d save my money for those 😀

ohhh me too RHPS! I go to one in the city which does the normal typical audience interaction 😀 good times! Do this every year around Halloween. Honestly I’ve been at least once of every character in some sort of Halloween or dress up mode in my life 😀 Not Columbia though!!!! 🙂

Ooo cool! could use, with summer, bad oily forehead around that time of the year! I think for my bday they were giving away a birthday cake shower gel 😀 the palette=rockin’! Not sure on the duos yet though def have to test b/c if they suck it I’ll prob return all except the ones I dig into :-D!

  • Kiradris

I completely agree, I got these on sale, and they are not specktacular – the packaging is the most impressive part ,along with the scent. However, the staying power sucks. If I had paid full price, I would have been majorly upset with myself!

    • the Muse

omg kira same same here. the color builds nicely with stain under it but I’d have been ranty if I paid full price..but right now, $9 bucks, I say LOVEZZZZZ 😀

  • Becky

I just got strutter and the color alone makes me so glad I got it. I wish I got the purpley one too but I’m enjoying the red sheer glittery finish and the cherry smell.

  • Becky

definitely! they were transferring them over to the sale shelf just as I approached it! probably wouldn’t have purchased otherwise. I might go back for the purpley one.

    • the Muse

the price was too good to pass up becky 😀 did ya get any of the shadow duos 😀

  • Rosie H.Weinstein(makeup fanatic)

I got stormy it is pretty nice color and it smells pretty damn good. I swear. This is something I would wear for a weddiing at night.
