YOU NEED THIS: Hard Candy Moon Glow Review and Swatches

Hard Candy continues to impress with it’s Spring/Summer 2010 selections.

Hard Candy Moon Glow 1

Jump ahead to hear the word on the new Hard Candy Moon Glow Powder.

What is it?

A shimmering translucent powder infused with illuminating gold powder.

The Good…

I gotta say Hard Candy has evolved slightly with this release. Now when the brand originally launched some of the line was a tad immature and leaning more towards teens. Personally Moon Glow really turns a new leaf for the brand as this is quality makeup that should appeal to all ages.

The packaging is incredible. Pretty much packaging you’d see at your local Sephora in my opinion. It’s a hard case shell with a dual compartment that features the powder on top, a full size gorgeous mirror on the bottom, and a little place to stash the super cute heart shaped sponge this comes with. Very nice packaging in my opinion and worthy of toting around and whipping out with pride.

Hard Candy Moon Glow 4

Basically, Hard Candy Moon Glow is a more subtle dupe of the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer and Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Candlelight. The formula is a transparent powder infused with a fine creamy gold shimmer. You can use it to set your makeup while giving your face and skin a soft focused golden highlight. The golden shimmer is very subtle so you aren’t left looking like a disco ball.

The Bad…

Can’t think of a single thing bad to say about it. It’s perfect and damn affordable too at $8 bucks.

Who Might Like It?

  • Anyone that’s wanted to indulge in Too Faced Invisible Candlelight or the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer but was intimidated by the price.
  • Anyone who wants a setting powder with a faint golden shimmer.
  • Anyone who loves super kawaii packaging!

Who Might Not Like It?

  • No one!

Final Thoughts….

Must say I’m very impressed. The packaging really floored me as it’s truly well made plus the affordable price tag and throw in a beautiful shimmer powder and it doesn’t take long to hook, line, and sink yourself a happy Muse.

Loves it.

Another fabulous release from Hard Candy Spring/Summer 2010.

Muse Approved for purchase.

Should be available shortly at your local Walmart.

Okay, I was avoiding Hard Candy because I don’t trust makeup from Wal-Mart but this may tempt me into visiting the evil empire…

Do you think this could also be used as a highlight? Or is the shimmer a little too subtle?

    Reply

    • 5/6/10 14:39 the Muse:

mmm maybe kat….it’s a little sheer but possibly can be built up to highlight..you can prob even multitask as a shadow if you try extra hard :D

So you can wear this in broad daylight and not look like a disco ball? Count me in 100% for sure as soon as I can find it!!! I’ve been planning a haul on this new awesomeness for a while now (since they were announced) so now if only my local Walmart had them in stock!!! Wish me luck as my hubby mentioned when I complained to him about it not being there yet that we can go check other Walmarts on his off days!!! *G*

BTW, I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, but I don’t think I’ve ever left comments before. Just this year I got into reviewing cosmetics myself via YouTube. (On a side note, I’ve been secretly wishing The Gorgeous Muse had a YouTube channel for quite some time now so if you ever get the desire to, you shall definitely have viewers!!!)

Hi and thanks for this review! Do you think is something that darker ladies could wear? (I’m a C40, NC40-42 in MAC). Thanks!

    • 5/7/10 11:15 the Muse:

hi my pleasure cassidey…I dunno I kinda wanna say yes but I’m unsure how it would look. I wanted to say it would give a nice gleam on darker cheek bones but also scared it may apply a little chalky even though it’s transparent….really not sure :P must try on my sis who’s very olive skin and see how it looks :D

You could always buy it and save the receipt. Then you can just return it if you don’t like the way it looks on your skin. (I adore Walmart’s return policy!)

I’ve been watching them since you gave me the link. They aren’t bad at all. My only complaint is you hide your face. ;)

aw cheers thanks aina…ya showing my face and talking just seems like a WHOLE lot of crazy embarrassment for me LOL I’m pretty intimated by simply talking so I thought it easier to not talk and show my face..I dunno the entire vid thing FREAKS me out. Funny as I’m pretty chatty, outgoing but put a video cam in my face and I clam up!

Hey Muse, thanks for another great review! I’m wondering how does this compare with Etude House’s Face Designing Brightener. Is it more shimmery?

    Reply

    • 5/6/10 21:58 the Muse:

coco completely different hun as the face designer is a highlighter this is basically a subtle shimmer in a translucent setting powdering. Hope this helps!

I’m looking at sometime mid may at this point. Honestly it should be on the shelves already but knowing how slow going walmart is to stock perhaps mid may early june.

It was ALL on the website but dunno why it was taken down could be stock issue or they pushed the release date?

      Hope this helps!

I saw your tweet on this earlier today and checked it out on my iPhone, but it isn’t as great as seeing all the pictures all big on my computer. I’m telling you, you need an app! ;)

I went to WalMart tonight and peeped out the Hard Candy section and there was nothing new. I would love to get one like this for my mom for Mother’s Day. She would love it!
I’ve always wanted to try Too Faced Candlelight, but don’t want to pay the price. But I can soo dish out the 8 bucks for this!

I’m going to be that person who disagrees with you on the “Who wouldn’t want this” bit. Personally, I found it too shimmery for me. I’m young enough that I need to look older to be taken seriously in my field and putting this on made me look younger. :p

Of course if you wanna look younger this stuff is awesome. I will agree though that hard candy is surprisingly awesome for a Walmart brand. I first tried their clear lipgloss and it was amazing.
