The Skinfood Avocado Rich Eye Balm Review

When I turned 30 I noticed fine lines beginning to form under my eyes and proceeded to freak the F out. I’ve always said to myself growing old and aging was no big deal but honestly when you start experiencing it for yourself, I promise, you will run around googling fine lines, hitting up your local skincare counter, and begging the skincare gods to please send a miracle.

After spending a gazillion dollars on lotions and potions, I finally figured out that my fine lines under my eyes were caused by dryness and that I could easily diminish them by keeping them as hydrated as possible.

That’s when I spent a few dollars on a large jar of Skinfood Avocado Rich Eye Balm and lived happily ever after it.

Jump!

The Skinfood Avocado Rich Eye Balm is a rich eye balm made up of shea butter and avocado oil to provide intense hydration to the eye area.

This comes in a rather cute jar and is quite large. It features an engraved top with the Skinfood emblem on top and a simple clear jar. It’s not glass or heavy by any means but it still looks very elegant and chic.

As per its name “rich eye balm”, the formula and texture are exactly that. If you’ve tried balms before (like body balms) you know how heavy, rich, and thick they are, this formula is pretty much the same as a body balm. I wouldn’t call it creamy really but more of a thicker texture which turns into a cream as you pat it into place and it warms up.

It has a very subtle herbal green/avocado like scent which I find very pleasant. After using it religiously for months now my fine lines are less prominent and my under eye area is hydrated and smooth. My concealer applies smoother without creasing into fine lines, my eyes look less tired, and my fine lines aren’t as easily seen as when my skin is drier.

I don’t recommend application during the day but you can pile it on nicely in the evening and sleep on it. In the AM you’ll be delighted how much better your eyes will look. The best part about the balm is the fact that you can use as much as you like without causing woes such as milia, a hooded look or tired look, or swelling. If you use richer eye creams with a ton of ingredients you may notice some or all of these symptoms. This balm will hydrate without any of these problems.

The only bad thing about the balm is it will not treat fine lines, wrinkles, or other aging woe. It exclusively treats dryness but no other symptoms associated with aging so don’t expect miracles other than intense hydration.

  • Anyone with super dry under eyes!
  • Anyone experiencing fine lines due to dryness.

  • Anyone wanting an eye cream that treats aging, fine lines, and/or wrinkles.
  • Anyone who hates dipping their fingers into skincare (this is bothersome to me as well but I like the product so much that I choose to ignore this).

The balm set me back a few dollars ($7 or $8) and was one of the best skincare investments I’ve made since it really hydrates better than anything else I’ve tried in the realms of eye care. I’ve tried alot of different options and many pricey options but this works better than any of the rest. Yes, it’s rather disappointing that it doesn’t treat aging but I still love it for the incredible moisturize it provides under my eyes. If you suffer from dryness, this is something you’ll really want to try out for size.

Great stuff and very much a Muse Approval.

I got it directly from Korea but YesStyle carries it for $23 or E-bay Sellers have it for $10-$15. I do believe it’s worth the price jack considering it will last ages as a little goes a long way plus the incredible formula.

Hi! Thanks for the review. Though I would like to ask, how is this product compared to Badger Balms Evolving Body Care Oil? How does it work in terms of hydration and repairing fine lines? Thanks! 🙂

    • the Muse

hi shyra maybe re-read hun as I covered all the questions you asked 😀 in terms of hydration/fine lines/etc…..all that stuff was answered in the review.

As for the Badgers, the products are completely different as one is an oil and one is a balm so you can’t really compare the two. However, this is easier to work with since the oil tends to get be a tad messy 😀

      • Shyra

I noticed that in your post you mentioned that the balm can’t help to decrease the fine lines but compared to those two, which gives a better hydration level? I have super dry eyes to and my fine lines are beginning to show more and more obvious! To make it worst I’m only in my mid 20s! Eeks! I bet if it’s not treated well it will become wrinkles (a woman’s nightmare!!)

Do you still use the oil? I read in your post that you only use it twice a week right? I was told by the SA that I can use it night and day, daily. So I’m a bit confused now (I am afraid of getting milia seed too)

        Thanks again!

        • the Muse

hey shyra that’s correct 😀 The balm offers more hydration more I find that the badger, when used regularly, has more lasting effects! I wouldn’t use the oil during the day….that could prove messy and greasy/oily. Right now I don’t use it at all b/c of Summer but in the Winter I tend to switch on and off by using it 2-3 nights or more if I need extra hydration 😀

          My pleasure!

I think I have exactly the same problem you have Musey. I have these lines under my eyes, but they’ll disappear after a mask. I freaked out when I started noticing them and invested in a rather pricey and tiny tube of Strivectin eye cream which promised “botox results”
Will duly give this a go!

    • the Muse

nunu lol strivectin is such bull hehe 😀 go do it hun I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

  • yay

Hi Muse! may i make a suggestion… i think you might feel more benefit by buying Avocado from local market & apply Avocado directly to your face.. i usually divided them in half.. use one half to put on face & hair.. sometimes added a little olive oil.. then eat the other half =)

  • mint

that seems like a good one. I’ve got a few fine lines under my eyes too but I’m not sure if it’s because of dryness or not. I’ve tried the skinfood honey and royal jelly firming eye cream which has the same packaging. But i think it was clogging my pores… thanks for the review! i’ll try and get my hands on this one and try it out. 🙂

    • the Muse

mmm mint be careful this might do the same, it’s quite thick 😀

      • mint

I see… Thanks for the advice! I’ll just have to find something else for my eyes then… 🙂

  • christine

hey! I have the black raspberry eye cream from the same brand. Though i dont think its AS hydrating, but it does treat wrinkles. and its working for me so far 🙂

    • the Muse

hi christine I love the black raspberry too but never noticed it treating my wrinkles sadly 🙁

  • denise

Hi Muse! I bought this one a month ago I think. Etude House is available locally in my country (like Skinfood). it’s cheap, costs like approx. $3. I don’t like the smell though. but it’s a good cleanser! I’m planning to buy the Milk Tea next. It’s one of the good smelling ones for me, based on the testers there.

Milk Tea is for softening. 😀

    • denise

Sorry. This one is supposedly for the: Etude House’s happy Tea Time Cleansing Foam Peach Tea >.<

  • louloubelle

Hi Muse! I’m a newbie follower of yours ^o^

I work as an English teacher in S Korea and I’m hopelessly addicted to the Skin Food and Etude House ranges too. I just want to say I love reading your reviews and have scuttled out to my local branches to purchase several items you have blogged about and NEVER been dissapointed so far!
I looked for the Avocado eye balm in my local Skin Food but alas there was none so I got the Salmon Brightening Eye Cream instead which has had promising results so far. I have a very young blog I’ve started where I write reviews on the Korean products I’m using so please feel free to come over anytime!

    Love! x

    • the Muse

hi loulou how exciting! congrats on your new adventure 😀 I’m so happy you’re enjoying all Korea has to offer in the realms of the beauty world ;-D I’m been looking over your blog and it’s great! good job 😀 good luck with it hun!!!!!!!!! xoxo!

  • Jerica

Hi! Do you think it will help decrease lines due to allergy? I am just fifteen so definitely, fine lines caused by aging was not my problem. THANKS!

  • annie

Should this product be use before applying eye mask or after or shouldn’t be used together at all?

  • Avalith

Im wondering if hydrating my under eyes before I start getting fine lines will prevent it, at least somewhat. This eye cream is irresistable. I MUST GET IT

    • the Muse

hydrating will always lessen the appearance of eyes ;-D always a good idea to keep as moist as possible avalith! 🙂

  • tania

Wow! I use the avocado eye cream from Kiehl’s and love it. I need a lot of moisture in my eye area cuz it dries out super easily, especially when I don’t get enough sleep! Definitely going to try this brand out.

You should also try the Skin Food Avocado Lip Balm, it’s amazing!
