MAC Venomous Villains Maleficent Review, Swatches, and Photos
Everyone ready to unleash their evil sides? I’m sure many of you have over indulged your makeup sweet tooth on MAC Venomous Villains this week. Pre-launch parties have started as early as last week and the collection is selling out quickly online as well as some stores that have already launched it even though the official release date is tomorrow.
A few nights ago I was playing around with Maleficent’s Collection which has some interesting pieces.
Let’s have a peek.
Maleficent, in my opinion, will prove a tad difficult to wear for most as she contains some harder shades of shadow and lip products.
I was originally very excited about both of the MAC Mineralize Eyeshadows in She Who Dares and My Dark Magic however I did come out of a little disappointed how blackened each turned out to be. These swatched dreamy and look even better in pan however on my lids the shades come across a tad too black for me to really feel the love.
She Who Dares is a combo of of navy blue shadow and forest green. The shades all have a dominant black base which comes across when blended. In most cases, I wouldn’t have a problem combining a blue and green shades however these tend to run together and create a messy shade of black, the same holds true for My Dark Magic which contains beautiful shades of pink and deep plum.
The duos look amazing but application is a tad difficult if your skill level isn’t that of the makeup artist variety. Sponge application is best suited here as well since fall out is a major issue due to the shimmer bits included in the mix. I wouldn’t say I disliked either and I’m happy to have both, but I will say I was disappointed they came across so very black on my lids.
Lipglasses in Revenge is Sweet turned out to be a pretty little surprise. In the tube this is a louder shade of neon purple but on lips it gives a flush of purple-y pink that looks surprisingly natural. I wish the same could be said of Wrong Spell but this is a tad difficult for me to personally wear as the deeper plum comes across very blackened on my lips. Those who embrace vampy lips and can sport the trend, will adore Wrong Spell. Dark Deed Lipstick will come in handy to use under Wrong Spell as it too perfects the vampy lip trend with a solid burgundy plum base.
And finally my favorite piece in the collection, Beauty Powder in Briar Rose.. This is a soft violet pink that impacts a very nice flush of color on cheeks and face. The shade is pigmented enough to easily act as a blush and quite reminds me of the Spring Forecast Ombre Blush in Azalea Blossom.
I’m excited about MAC Venomous Villains however the more items I try from the collection the more I become a little disappointed. We’ll see what the Evil Queen brings next!
