Wet n Wild Vanite ColorIcon Eye & Lip Quartet Review, Swatches, Photos

Wet n Wild has a release of four new, limited edition Vanite ColorIcon Eye & Lip Quartet Palettes. Each palette has a “princess” theme with two lipglosses and two shadows.

I have to say I dislike the over use of “ColorIcon” as I commonly associate the name with the awesome six pan palettes. I will say I liked the idea of these because believe me a few years ago you couldn’t get me to touch such inexpensive makeup as I was simply too snobbish to bother however brands have evovled, Wet n Wild being one, and more recent releases are surprisely good for the price. However, they are made in China which could make or break the deal for some.

I purchased these at Harmons for $3.99 each.

Let’s have a look and see what I thought!

A beauty budget quad featuring two shades of shadow and two lipglosses!

I dunno if you wanna deem it kawaii or simply a play off on the upcoming nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton but either way the idea and concept is rather cute. Each quad is housed in a weighty acrylic case and features two shades of shadows, two lipglosses, and a dual applicator.

To look at them and actually hold them you’d never guess they were $3.99. They don’t feel cheap nor do they look cheap to me. Perhaps a tad immature and sort of like play makeup but that honestly depends on how you like your makeup because I personally just see cute makeup but some may feel it’s not entirely mature.

There are four total quad selections which are Renaissance Faire (Royal Purple, Emerald Shadow and Bubblegum Pink, Crystal Lipgloss), Queen Victoria (Royal Purple, Bright Pink Shadow and Mauve-y Purple, Purple Lipgloss), I Reign Supreme (Traditional Smoky Shades in Silver and Gray, Mauve, Fuschia Lipgloss), and I’m Ba-Roque (Hunter Green, Beige Peach Shadow and Iredscent Peach/Orange Coral Lipgloss).

Out of the four shades I thought the most wearable were I’m Ba-Roque and I Reign Supreme as the other shades seemed a touch mismatched and difficult to contrast. The shadows are all highly pigmented and have a semi-matte formula in most cases but some come across frosty and shimmery so it’s a mismatch of finishes depending which shade selections you pick up. They blend well enough and come across with a bold pop of color.

For my looks below I used shadows and lipglosses from I’m Ba-Roque and I Reign Supreme to create each look you see! P.S. In my smoky look I’m using the Shiseido Brightening Veil!

The glosses are terrible. They are thick and have a waxy feel. They have a high level of pigment without a doubt but I felt they sat awfully uncomfortable on my lips and just had a certain thick, heavy feel that was not comfortable in the least. I appreciate the amazing pigmentation but they just have an overly creamy waxy feel that I personally don’t like.

The shadow and lipglosses in the quad together, well, need I say it’s a mess?

I like the shadows alot but I really lack the creativity to contrast some of the shades. Purple and pink are hard to wear together eh? The shades take a bit of brain work to put together and in the morning, when I’m half asleep, I lack any imagination to put these things together.

The sponge applicator is silly. It has a lipbrush on one end that works ok but the sponge tip on the other is absurdly small. What am I supposed to do with this!?

  • Those on a beauty budget.
  • Those who simply love the brand (I think fans of the brand will adore these instantly).

5

  • Those who hate powder and lipglosses to be housed in the same palette.
  • Those who aren’t interested in tracking down LE items (I noticed that Wild n Wild and a few other drugstore brands LE really turn into a treasure hunt sometimes).
  • Those who enjoy more higher end makeup (if you’re a Chanel girl, these aren’t going to do you any favors).
  • Those who can’t wear bolder shades (maybe of the shades are pretty vibrant).

6
Overall, I can’t rant too much because seriously at $3.99 you can’t beat the deal. For those on the budget I’d recommend a pick up of the two shades I favored however the other two shades may prove a bit difficult to pull off. I find myself wishing they would have done a shadow quad and just forgone the lipglosses.

I like them well enough but they may make an appearance at the very bottom of my stash but without a doubt nice for the price!

Anyone try ‘em?

God knows I loves me some WnW, but I am not lovin ‘ these. hate eyeshadows and lipglosses together. Why couldn’t they have done a 4 pan eyeshadow! On a related note, I am wearing WnW Knock on Wood (3 pan) again today and I <3 it big-time!

I know cream shadows aren’t as trendy as they were a few years back, but I think this style of palette works better with cream shadows and a gloss/cream blush.

I went for ages wearing nothing but el cheapo cream eyeshadows because I didn’t know about primers and hated the way powders sat on my eyes. I wore a lot of the old Wet n Wild Eye Expressions palettes. Looks like they still have some over at nonpareilboutique. Did you ever use them?

I bought all of them. Our local store had a buy 1 and get 1 50% off deal. Even though I had NEVER used WnW until now, (not even when I was poor and in high school), I truly love these. I don’t really mind the eyes and lips in a quad. For the price, I am having fun with it. At the age of 44, I am finally going away from my comfort of high end ONLY mentality…
